Kara looked at her king, the man she had sworn her life to serve She had imagined all scenarios and her fate, but this right here was the one she hadn’t thought would ever come to make a truth, ever. She was the bait the bastard beta had sent for and to the Lycan queen. That was why the intruders hadn’t even bothered as much with the king. The broken Belyaeva queen would always remain the target, seeing as Drescher had long made his choice with her. Drescher didn’t want to have the Lycan queen, and at the same time, he couldn’t stand the fact that she had people ready to defend her, and that was something a cruel and wretched creature like him was never going to accept.
Drescher’s sins were always going to be unforgivable. But this was one that he would never outlive. The bastard werewolf beta would get to pay the price for it tenfold even as Kara stared at her friends, her head bowing in shame as the realization hit the lot of them. They knew her so well. She would never betray the crown and for the first time ever, the Lycan king, the Lycan enforcer, and the Lycan king’s beta were angry on her behalf. They were pissed that Drescher was trying to do the same thing he had done with Polina. It was something they had never healed from, and yet here he was, attacking them again.
“Me,” Kara defeatedly whispered the horrible truth that they all knew. That admission was the one thing she had never thought would be coming from her. All through the centuries, she had been a warrior for the crown, a high guard who would take any form as long as she served the king and as it turns out, so many wanted to break her heart while they ruined their home. This was a fate so cruel and she was angry. Oh, she was seething with rage. She hated being used and she hated that they were trying to make her a traitor of all the things. If there was something that Kara hated more than cold showers, then it had to be a betrayal.
And they had dared to do that to her.
“Why? What did he send you to do? What the fuck did you guys do to me?” Kara asked as she walked over to the intruders, staring at their bodies, studying them. She knew they would have stayed around to see whether their mission was complete. They could have lingered in the woods around Asmoria just to ensure that whatever they had been sent here to do had been, done. How one man could hate an innocent queen like that was beyond Kara and frankly, Drescher’s obsession was the one thing that still shocked her.
Which part of life had Drescher Volkov gone up in? He had his entire family held captive in Asmoria and yet the only thing that mattered to him wasn’t even his family. But the girl he couldn’t have. Maybe Drescher never had the unconditional love of family, but goddamn, he was doing a really good job reminding his family that they were never going to mean anything to him. and even if they did, he was doing a terrible job showing it. Drescher was a disappointment to an entire race and to the goddess’s children and this time, the Lycan king wasn’t going to be holding back or taking it slow. Sure, he had come here with the aim of sending a message but there was no point.
