As they made their way across Asmoria, Ralphine’s curiosity was killing her. She had seen the change in the air with her husband and the warrior she trusted with her life and that of her Erasthai. She had felt them and she knew that something was amiss. She had been in America long enough to know that there were things that never happened without reason and Kara keeping her distance from her had to be it. She knew this didn’t have anything to do with Miroslav, because if Miro had warned Kara or even given the warrior an order that she wouldn’t even be here with Ralphine, and that got the queen wondering what it was.
“Leave us,” the Lycan queen suddenly ordered, and the two high guards who had come along with her and Kara stopped in

“I said, leave us!” the queen insisted and Kara sighed as she looked at the stubborn woman who was daring her to command the warriors back. It was a dangerous dare and Kara knew she couldn’t do that. Defying the queen meant that the world could come at her for being a terrible warrior and that wasn’t what she had intended. This to her was everything and she needed to ensure that Queen Ralphine was in very safe hands, even if it wasn’t her hands.
“Yes, your majesty,” the high guards said as they bowed and made their way out of their Queen’s sight, leaving her with the woman who was scared shitless of hurting her. Kara was haunted by everything that was happening at the moment and a part of her wished there was some other way. She was worried that all of this would boil down to her and then things could take a very difficult turn. As much as she hated walking on thin ice around Raph, she was aware there weren’t that options left for her, seeing as she was not even sure what kind of danger she was for the queen.

“And you… Walk with me,” the queen insisted and Kara sighed. This wasn’t going to be easy and she should have known it from the way the queen had been staring at her. But then would she explain to the woman that she was in so much danger that the entire Asmoria was losing their minds about it? Would Kara say that? Would she be honest so as to make the queen feel normal or how was she to go about it?
“What is it, your highness,” Kara asked, worriedly.
“You’re walking on thin ice around me. You have changed since you came from the borders. It is obvious the farce the three idiots put up was to hide the fact that something happened with the intruders on your side of the dome. I don’t know what it is but I am intelligent enough to know it had to be very serious if they tried to wave it off like that. I am not good at a lot of things, Kara, but I am good at making sure everyone doesn’t get into a shithole because of me.
“And I won’t ask you what happened, which is why you and I are going to see the Drescher family. Maybe they can give us the answers you are scared to seek out on our own. And don’t even play the ‘it’s okay card, because it isn’t okay. You are a warrior, so chin up, and don’t let them see you down, alright?” the Lycan queen said, making Kara stare at her softly. She appreciated the fact that Ralph hadn’t pushed, because if she had then Kara would have had to lie to her for her own security. Kara hadn’t planned on ruining her relationship with Queen Ralphine and she certainly wasn’t going to start that today.
“Alright. Lead the way, my queen,” Kara said, the smile on her face making a show and this time it wasn’t as forced as the previous times. She was genuinely glad that they were out there trying to figure out the loopholes. There was a chance that the Volkov family wouldn’t have talked to the king and his warriors if Miro had been the one to go there, especially after what Miro had ordered be done to their mother. Well, they used cruel means to get to an end and while they weren’t about to justify that, there were just some things that the king did because he knew what he wanted and they wouldn’t ask shit about it.

Sure, they were placed away from the palace for security reasons, but that wouldn’t change the fact that they were easily some of the best things that had happened in the kingdom anyway. Otherwise, it would have been a little hard and awkward dealing with them, right?.

Drescher needed therapy and maybe his friends would get that for him and save the realm from the mess that had just become of it, because this, all of this, was too cruel.
First, Drescher had hurt Ralphine and made sure that she had been humiliated in the Koslov pack, and now Ralph had nothing left to go back home to in Koslov. It was like everything was lost that very day that Drescher had rejected her and pushed her. Maybe it was after, maybe it was destiny or maybe it was the first time that she had seen a man as crazy as Drescher Volkov and his madness. The chaotic beta needed to be out in his place and sooner or later they would do it, hopefully.
“Thank you,” Ralphine said but before she could go in, Kara stopped her and stepped in first.
Kara then scanned the room for any weapons or any traps laid there by Drescher for her to use against the queen. It was a frustrating long gable, but it was protocol and no matter what the queen said, this part of her deal was non–negotiable. So, when Kara was done confirming that the room was safe and without any traps, she signaled for her queen to get in. They both knew there were so many risks with this family, but since they wanted answers, they could only hope to get them from the family that had been hurt by their son.
“Hello, my name is Ralphine Ibrahimovich, the Lycan queen,” Ralph greeted, spelling out her last name for the first time. She had never introduced herself as an Ibrahimovich since she had come here. Of course, most of the Lycans just called her Queen Ralph, while her husband called her his erasthai.
No one had ever even called her by her full name and that made her stop for a moment and take in the fact that she was now an Ibrahimovich. A member of the royal Lycan family. A girl who could determine the fate of so many people and at

“I am Volkov, and these are my daughters,” Volkov said, intentionally leaving out the names of his children. He didn’t want the royal family to be able to track his kids by their names. Besides, it would cause more trouble for the two girls and the father didn’t do that. He wanted to see his girls grow up into good people who knew what the world was like and people who strived to make positive changes in society. He wanted to mold them into good people, so they wouldn’t turn out like their brother. However, with their mother gone and the trauma they had from that gory sight earlier, Volkov knew it wouldn’t be as easy, but he was ready for that too.

“I would nice to meet you but the circumstances are quite unfortunate, Volkov. I assume by now you already know that your son escaped Asmoria and is with the Mirza rebels. And you have also known that your son sent intruders to fuck up the kingdom while he prepared to come and attack us, right?” Ralphine asked, her voice cold and stern yet at the same time she still had a smile on her face, making her quite the figure to deal with. She had mastered a lot of things while she lived in Koslov and that in itself was the one thing that she wasn’t ever going to regret, even though Koslov had pushed her to be someone who couldn’t do much without having to look around her.
“What?” Volkov asked as he walked to his daughters and hugged them close.
Ralph wasn’t sure if they were glad that Drescher had made a run for it, or if they were scared that the man would come for them too. He had sentenced their mother to a cruel fate and if that was what he was hoping to subject them to, Volkov could only pray that his daughters be spared. He couldn’t handle losing another family member just because Drescher was

obsessed with the woman in front of him. He wanted to ask what it was that made Drescher obsess so much but as he looked at her, he understood.
She was different,
“With him out there, it’s just a matter of time before he breaches and tries to get you. Which will not be very good for you, because the moment you leave Asmoria, I will not be there to protect you from whatever chaos you will meet out there, including the madness that is my husband, the cruelest King alive especially to those who he considers to be threats,” Ralphine said earnestly as they listened to her. There was a lot going on with them, and there wasn’t much that could be said or adapted to, at least not at the moment anyway. It was like the world was going round and round, and there were so many things taking place at the same time, and even then their brother and son was still able to fuck things up tenfold.
Volkov looked at his daughters, and he could see how scared they were of everything that was shopping. They had heard the sirens wailing for the domes to be set up, and even then they had not made a step to get out of their guest house. Their first instinct was to stay low because only then would they ever be able to save themselves. And now as it was Drescher had made them the poster family for disappointments and betrayal, not to mention a family that wouldn’t ever be able to face a lot of things or people. They were left with shame thanks to their family member who was wallowing in the shadows and rolling with the insanities of the realm.
Perhaps there was never going to be a way out of this and they needed to stop trying, right?
“Protect us? What chaos? Please, could you explain what you mean by that, Your Highness,” Volkov asked, his tone so defeated as he kept his focus on his daughters who were seated on both of his. He was hugging them close like he was worried that they could be taken away from him which was interestingly probable. But then what else could they do when the world was a shit hole and Drescher Volkov was determined to prove just how cruel and useless he could be not just to his family but to the realm as a whole simply because he couldn’t stand a rejection?
“Maybe I didn’t make myself clear. The only thing standing between you and your death in the hands of my husband, the Lycan king, is me, his mate, and Erasthai. If you get out of the palace or if Drescher breaches you and you go with him, Ibrahim will find you, and gods be damned, he will make you regret ever being born. I have seen him deal with people and I know how terrible it gets. And before you misunderstand me and think I am threatening you, please know that I am not at the moment. When I threaten you, I promise, you will know. But right now, we need to work together and make sure Ibrahim doesn’t kill you, and you don’t do something stupid,” Ralphine explained in simpler terms.
Things weren’t getting any easier with Drescher out there and she hoped that this family or whatever was left of it, would be able to help them bring down Drescher once and for all. If Drescher had no remorse for his mother dying, then he would probably abandon his father too. However, Ralph also knew that Drescher loved his sisters with all of him. He would never stand by and watch his sisters get hurt. Maybe that was also why Ralph was silently praying and hoping that there would never come a day when she would have to use these girls to lure Drescher out. Because then it would be an unfortunate timing, seeing as she never wanted them to experience the kind of pain she felt as a kid who had nothing but parents who worked all day and night to bring food to the table, yet still got underappreciated by the pack leaders they toiled so hard for.
“What do you want me to do?” Volkov asked and Ralph smiled softly at him.
