After what happened to Zachary, Stanley carried on with his work routine as usual, seemingly unaffected.
All he could do now was wait.
The secretary came in and notified, “Mr. Fuller, the interview is about to start. The HR department is requesting your presence.”
“All right, I’ll be there right away.”
Stanley nodded, setting aside the work in his hands. He then rose and headed toward the conference
room.
Each year, the research institute recruited summer interns from various universities in Jacaster. Those who excelled had the chance to become full–time employees or received priority for graduate recruitment upon graduation.
In the past, during the winter and summer breaks, Madison would always return to her hometown and collaborate with a cram school in the town.
That year, her father decided to stay in the city to continue working as a gatekeeper, hoping to earn a bit of money. Consequently, Madison didn’t go back home.
After the summer vacation, she would be in her senior year. With a light course load and no plans for postgraduate studies, she, along with her classmate, began to look for internships and job opportunities.
Several major factories in Jacaster would annually recruit summer interns from universities. Madison and her classmate submitted numerous applications. After passing the online written test, they were granted the opportunity to interview at Fuller Group.
For the interview, Madison wore a loose outfit to conceal her stomach, arriving on time along with her classmate.
The lounge was occupied by around ten individuals, all there for the interview.
The secretary asked them to wait in the lounge and provided them with two bottles of mineral water.
Her classmate immediately unscrewed the water bottle and took a couple of sips, subtly observing everyone in the lounge. “Madison, I’m a bit nervous. What should I do?”
“Don’t be,” Madison said, taking her hand. “Just do your best. After all, you still have a year to find a job.”
“You’re right.”
Madison flashed a small smile, choosing not to say anything else.
The interview began, with a secretary calling out names at the door.
Whoever’s name was called, they were to proceed to the adjacent conference room for the interview.
The crowd in the lounge started to thin out, and Madison began to feel anxious.
The first one to go was Madison’s classmate.
She flashed a grimace, reluctantly letting go of Madison’s hand, before heading off to the conference

About ten minutes later, her classmate walked out of the conference room, a picture of utter dejection. “It’s over…”
“What’s wrong?”
“I didn’t perform well. As soon as those few people sat down inside, I was so nervous that I couldn’t even speak. But the interviewer in the middle is quite handsome. It’s just his gaze is so intense, you know? The moment he looked at me, I choked up.”
And he seems somewhat familiar.
Madison laughed. “This isn’t a novel.”
“You’ll know once you go in.”
Upon hearing her classmate’s words, Madison entered the conference room and instinctively glanced toward the man in the center.
When their eyes met, Madison momentarily hesitated. She quickly looked away, stepped onto the stage, and began her introduction.
Stanley slightly furrowed his brows.
He recognized her. She was the woman who had nearly been hit by a car on the main road that day, all because she was picking up a phone.
The other interviewers took turns asking questions. Madison was prepared and her responses were fairly smooth.
When it was Stanley’s turn, he glanced down at the resume in his hand before looking up. “What’s your view on office romances?”
Madison was taken aback for a moment. “Does the company allow office romances?”
“Of course not,” Stanley said, looking at Madison. “I was merely asking for your opinion.”
“If I were to work for the company, I would definitely abide by its rules and regulations. Since the company doesn’t allow it, I certainly won’t break the rules,” Madison answered earnestly.
Stanley gave her a deep look, then chuckled lightly. “All right, if no one has any questions, let’s move on to the next one.”
Madison pursed her lips, unsure of what his laughter meant.
She nervously stepped out of the conference room, and her classmate who was waiting outside immediately approached her. “How did it go?”
“I don’t know. I’m not sure,” Madison confessed truthfully.
“You saw the interviewer in the middle, didn’t you? He’s really handsome, right?”
“You’ve really let lust cloud your judgment.”

In a matter of days, Madison received news. She had successfully passed the interview at Fuller Group, as well as those at several other companies.
Fuller Group offered the highest internship salary and the best benefits. Madison chose Fuller Group and could start the internship by Monday.
Her classmate wasn’t as fortunate. She didn’t pass Fuller Group’s interview and chose to join another company instead.
Stanley reached out to Mindy. “Can you get in touch with your Uncle Arnold and find out when he’s available? Let’s pay him a visit.”
Mindy didn’t expect Stanley to be quite persistent about this matter.
She made a phone call to Madison, then, under the guise of concern for Arnold, she inquired about Madison’s affairs, asking her if she would be returning to her hometown for the summer break.
Madison truthfully said, “I won’t be going back with Dad for the summer break. I plan to intern here. I’m starting work next Monday.”
Mindy chuckled. “That’s good.”
After that, Mindy called Stanley and asked, “Is next Monday okay?”
“Sure.”
On Monday, Madison arrived at the research institute of Fuller Group ten minutes ahead of schedule. The secretary showed her around the workspace to familiarize her with the environment and arranged her workstation.
At that moment, the team leader arrived, and the secretary introduced her to him.
In the following two months of her internship, Madison was assigned to work under the team leader, carrying out tasks delegated by him.
The team leader flashed her a smile. “Switch on your computer and log into Microsoft Teams. I’ll notify you about any work through there.”

As she leaned against the chair and took a sip of water, she caught sight of a familiar figure.

Seeing that she genuinely didn’t care about what had transpired that night, Connor hesitated before giving a slight nod.
Madison quietly exhaled.
She had actually forgotten about Connor.

On her first day of the internship, the team leader didn’t assign any major tasks. Most of her work involved paperwork to give her a basic understanding or helping out by serving coffee in the conference room. Meanwhile, after meeting with Mindy, Stanley proceeded to Madison’s residence.
