“You can do whatever you want, and it has nothing to do with me. As long as Jade does not provoke me, I will not find fault in her. You are a full–fledged adult already. Why can’t you, you know, use more of your brain?” Ash was brutal with her words.
She then walked into the living room without giving Caspian any chance to respond.
I really wonder what is inside Caspian’s brain. It is not that he is not smart, but when it comes to judging people, it is as if his cerebellum has shriveled. Ash deplored Caspian in her head.
She found it unbelievable that he could not detect Jade’s clumsy schemes and did not sense anything amiss.
It seems like it is true, that all men in the world are suckers for a girl like Jade.
“Mom! Let’s go! She has been sent to the hospital!” Ash was sleeping soundly in her room when she heard Caspian shouting something outside.
She turned and pulled the blanket over her head. However, it was getting more and more noisy.
In the end, Ash could not take it anymore. She turned on the lights and looked at the time. It was 3.10 a.m. She opened the door angrily and saw Caspian, who was knocking on the doors, one by one.
She could not hide her anger any longer. She gripped the door handle tightly and gritted her teeth as she glared at Caspian. “What exactly do you want? Do you know what time it is now?. What do you think you are doing?”
“Jade slit her wrists!” Caspian’s eyes were bloodshot, and he looked especially haggard.
‘I see. When one wants to court death, they give zero fucks to the ramifications. Ash could see what Jade was trying to do.
At the hospital, Jade had yet to come out of the operation theater.
Initially, Ash did not plan to come, but she was worried about Brooke’s heart condition, so she followed the latter.
The entire family was present and was waiting outside the operation theater.
Ash took a pill out of nowhere and handed it to Brooke. “Mom, this is a tonic good for the heart. Dorothy gave it to me last time. Take it. You are going to be here the whole night, and you should not overstrain yourself.”
When Brooke heard the news of Jade slitting her wrist, she could feel her heart squeezing hard. After so many years of taking care of Jade, it was impossible for Brooke to not care at all.
Brooke’s face was a little pale, and she did not look energetic at all. She took the small pill and popped it into her mouth. She forced a smile at Ash. “Ash, you are always so thoughtful. I am blessed to have such an attentive daughter like you.”
“We are a family. It is only right that we take care of each other.” Ash smiled faintly.
Brooke smiled and sighed. “I do not know what is wrong with Jade. She was not like this in the past. Just today, I told Caspian that she would not hurt herself no matter what. Who knew that this would happen not long after I said that? I do not know what is going on in her head anymore.”
Brooke sat on the bench and looked at the operation theater, where the red light was still on.
Ash lowered her eyes. She had an enigmatic expression, though very subtle. ‘Jade’s self–injury was nothing more than a ruse. After she wakes up, she is definitely going to come up with a reason like how she is redundant or feels that she has let us down. No one can come up with such a lousy show but Jade.‘

After an unknown period of time, Ash, who had her head lowered, suddenly heard a familiar low and apathetic male voice.
Ash raised her head and looked in the direction of the voice. Calvert was also there. It seemed that Jade’s trick somehow worked.
Calvert’s arrival caught the Turner family’s attention. It was Josh who spoke first. “Calvert, why are you here too?”
I called him. This hospital is owned by the Snider family. I want him to help us get an experienced doctor,” Caspian explained.
The truth was, that Caspian thought that Jade would be very happy if she saw Calvert when she woke up. He knew that he should not have done this. However, he really did not want anything to happen to Jade again.
Regardless of what the Turner family and the others thought, to Caspian, Jade had always been his sister and will always be. It did not matter if they were related by blood or not.
Brooke looked at Caspian reproachfully. “Any doctor in this hospital is top–notch. Why would you make Calvert come all the way here? Do you know what time it is?”
“It is fine. How long until the surgery ends?” Calvert shook his head slightly. It was apparent that he looked tired.
Lachlan noticed the slight change in his mother’s emotions and said something to loosen up the tense atmosphere, “Jade should be fine. It was found out in time, and she should be out soon. There is no need for so many people to stay here and wait. Caspian and I will stay behind. You guys can leave first.”
*Lachlan, since the surgery is about to end, why don’t we wait for Jade to come out before everyone leaves? When she wakes up and sees that everyone is here, she will definitely feel more safe,” Caspian suggested.
At this somber moment, Ash could not help but yawn. She even stretched her back.
Calvert’s gaze had been fixed on this woman since he arrived. Whatever Ash did just now made his heart soften for some reason, and the corner of his lips unconsciously lifted.
Brooke stood up and held Ash’s hand. “Lachlan is right. Even if the surgery is over, the effect of the anesthetic will take some time to go away. With so many people standing here, it will affect the hospital’s operation. Josh, let’s go back first.” Due to her heart condition, Brooke was extremely tired.

Ash did not move. She stood rooted to the ground and looked at the disappointed Caspian. Then, she said, “Dad, take Mom home and rest first. Since I am already here, it does not matter if I stay a while longer. I will go back after her surgery is done. You guys can go back first.”
Brooke frowned. It seemed that she did not approve of Ash’s choice. “Ash, there’s no point in you staying here. Just come home with us. We will come back first thing in the morning, okay?”
Ash shook her head and looked at Calvert. “Don’t worry. When Jade wakes up, I will get him to send me back. Is that okay?”

Brooke paused for a moment before blurting a suggestive “Oh.” She then smiled faintly. “Alright, that works too. I lost more assured with Calvert around.”
Ash knew that her mother misunderstood her intentions, but it did not matter. Even if she had explained herself, it would be useless.
“Calvert, take good care of Ash. Contact me anytime.” Brooke then left.
