It had been an hour since Jade was pushed out of the operation theater, Ash stood outside the crowd from the very beginning and did not go up to take a look at Jade.
Ash looked at her watch. It was almost five o’clock. She was not sure if she should sleep or not.
“Let’s go. Send me home.” Jade finally decided to head home and catch up on her sleep.
Jackson had other urgent things to do. He left not long after Jade was wheeled out of the operation theater. As for Lachlan, he decided to stay and help take care of Jade.
Caspian was surely going to stay. He would never leave before Jade woke up.
Calvert, who had just been given an order, was looking at messages on his phone. When he heard that, he looked up, and his unenthusiastic face showed doubt. “Is that an order? Do I look like a driver to you?.”
Ash nodded without thinking. Now that she was sleepy and extremely tired, she did not care about anything else. She reached out and grabbed his arm, giving an affirmative answer. “Yes, that is right. Now, let’s not dawdle. Let’s go. The sun is going to be up if we don’t leave now.”
Ash pushed Calvert out of the ward.
Calvert exerted force on his legs and stopped in place. He turned to look at the sleepy woman. “You are quite comfortable and familiar with ordering people around.”
Ash tilted her head and looked at him with half–closed eyes. “Remember the one–year agreement? You are considered my fiancé now. How could you regard sending your fiancée home an order? Is this not what a man should do? Is this not the basic duty of a fiancé?”
When Calvert saw how sharp–tongued Ash was, he raised his eyebrows slightly. His deep and dark eyes were filled with undefined emotions. “Oh, so now I am your fiancé?”
“Come on. I have always remembered what you said. I do not have dementia yet. Mr. Snider. Can you send me home now?” Calvert did not answer. He looked at her and turned around to walk toward the elevator.
After getting into the car, the two of them were silent. Ash leaned against the window. The car drove steadily, and her eyelids began to droop. She took out her phone and looked at the time. She could not stand it any longer and fell asleep, while still holding her phone.
Ash had always been a very vigilant person. Under normal circumstances, even if she had stayed up for a few nights, it was impossible for her to fall asleep unguarded in someone else’s car.
However, the driver was Calvert. She became less on guard and even felt a little at ease.
“Boss, I have something to tell you.” Suddenly, there was a male voice in the extremely quiet car.
Calvert looked in the direction of the voice and realized that it was from the phone in Ash’s hand.
She had fallen asleep long ago. It must have been a call, and her hand happened to be on the answer button. Calvert glanced at the caller ID from the corner of his eye. [William Mallin] was on display.
Calvert’s eyes flickered. He peeked at Ash, who was sleeping, and slowly took the phone. He then quietly turned down the mic volume. The person on the other end of the phone did not notice anything amiss.
“Winnie has decided to tell the truth. The situation here is not good. Can you come and take a look? I really did not mean to disturb your rest, Boss.”
Chapter 105
A thought suddenly flashed through Calvert’s mind.
He had never been able to find out about the exact relationship between Ash, William, and Shadow Ventures. Perhaps because it was concealed right from the very beginning.
“On top of that, I happen to have a new plan to discuss with you. It is about Riverstone’s Commercial Area. Boss?”
The person on the other end of the line finally sensed that something was wrong. The gentle voice kept coming. “Boss? Why are you not saying anything? Is there something going on?”
Calvert felt that William was talking too much. He hung up the phone and put it back to where it was.
It turned out that Ash was the actual chairman of Shadow Ventures.
No wonder she had always worked so hard for Shadow Ventures, and that explained why William had always respected her.
Calvert had really underestimated the woman, who was currently sitting next to him. In the past, when she was a member of the Moreno family, she did not have any resources or connections. She relied solely on her own capability and insistently created her own destiny.
He found that extraordinary.
William was still ringing Ash’s phone non–stop. Ash finally woke up to the constant vibration of her phone. She rubbed her eyes and answered the call. “What is the matter?” she asked impatiently.
“Why are you calling me at this hour? Stop calling. It’s annoying.” Ash was extremely angry when she got up and ended the
call.
Calvert, on the other hand, was focused on driving. He looked at her slightly and said, “We are almost there. You seem to have slept well.”
Ash was woken up for no reason. That was why she glared at Calvert angrily. “What exactly do you want to say? Are you going to say that I snored? Or are you going to say that I was drooling?”
“I did not say anything.” Calvert was in a good mood.
There was scrutiny in Ash’s eyes. “Then shut up. My phone kept ringing. Why did you not wake me up?”
“Oh, it was your ringtone. I thought you played some lullaby.” Calvert’s mouth was as sharp and mean as a professional stand–up comedian.
Ash was so angry, but at the same time, found Calvert funny. She jolly well knew that nothing good ever came out of his mouth and decided that she should stop wasting energy on him.
She then turned silent. After some pondering, she felt that she had just been made fun of. She sat up straight and said, “Since you inexplicable thought of a lullaby, does that mean that you need someone to lull you to sleep at night? Do you need your grandma to tell you a bedtime story?”
After saying this, Ash felt much better. She would not allow herself to be at a disadvantage in front of Calvert.
It was rare for Calvert to not retort stonily. His expression was indifferent as usual. He looked ahead and stopped the car a moment later.
The more Ash thought about this last part of the journey, the more she felt that it was strange. ‘I had just argued with him, but did he not retort? Moreover, she had answered William’s call right in front of him, but he did not say anything harsh‘
Ash got out of the car, took a few steps, turned around, and bent at the waist to look at Calvert through the window. “Is there something wrong with you? You are not acting like how you usually do. Or did you feed me poison when I was asleep just now?”

Ash frowned. “You are the one who needs to go to get your brain checked.”
Calvert retracted his gaze and his face softened a little. He then stepped on the accelerator and sped away.
