Ash could not hide the excitement in her tone. “Can you believe it? There is a firefly here. I haven’t seen fireflies in a long time.”
The city renewal was fast. The skyscrapers and exhaust emissions made the sky gloomy. It was rare to see fireflies in the city.
“The environment here is better than the city. You can see many green plants around. There are fireflies, but very few, Vidre lucky today.” Calvert reached out the driver’s window and let the firefly go.

Ash felt the two of them had unknowingly closed the distance between them tonight. “Saying thank you only means I’m polite. It has nothing to do with anything else.”
“Alright, go in.” Calvert retracted his gaze and said.
Without acting coy, Ash walked toward the entrance. When she turned back, she found the car had disappeared. She thought, ‘It seems this guy is not bad.’
Ash returned to the hall of the side building. The lights were still on. Brooke was lying on the sofa as usual, obviously waiting for her.
Brooke’s love for Ash was never just words. She had proved it with actions that love was in every inadvertent detail.
Seeing Brooke was sleeping soundly, Ash could not bear to wake her. She tiptoed to Brooke’s side and covered her with a blanket. Then, Ash took a piece of paper and took out her lipstick to leave a note. [Mom, I’m home. Don’t worry about me. Sleep tight. Love you.]
Ash rarely said such sweet words, but she felt love worked both ways. She should return Brooke’s love for her, and more importantly, she would tell Brooke her feelings. Therefore, she added the words ‘love you‘ after much hesitation.
As expected, those two words “love you” worked magic. The next morning, Brooke woke up and saw the note. She could not control her excitement and screamed.
“What’s wrong, honey?” Josh was quietly drinking coffee. He was shocked by Brooke’s sudden scream. He hurriedly put down the cup in his hand and went forward to check on the situation.
Brooke was as happy as if she had obtained her favorite candy. “This is a note from Ash. Did you see it? This is Ash’s message.”
Josh went downstairs in the early morning to keep his wife company. When he came down, he saw the note and knew Ash was back, but he knew what to do and did not read the note because that was what his precious daughter had left for his wife.
He leaned over to look and finally knew the trigger that had caused Brooke to cry out was the words ‘love you‘

“Mom, why are you crying? What happened?” Ash’s eyes were filled with worry, “What’s wrong?
Brooke felt embarrassed. She turned her face away and said with a faint sobbing voice, “I’m fine. Something just went in my eye, so my eyes turned red.”
“What’s in your eye?” Ash moved closer to take a look.
Seeing the mother and daughter frozen on the stairs, Josh said, “Ash, can you come down and do Daddy a favor now?”
“I’m fine. Go help your father first.” Knowing Josh was getting her out of the embarrassment, Brooke said gently and touched Ash’s cheek with her smooth hand.
The intimate move came too suddenly. Ash’s body was stiff, and her eyes were a little flickering. She looked uncomfortable and said lightly, “Okay. Go wash your face first.”
Ash was suspicious. She went downstairs and lowered her voice. “Dad, what happened to Mom? Did you do her wrong?” Hearing it, Josh almost choked on his saliva. Ever since he and Brooke got married, they had quarreled, but it was always Brooke who argued unilaterally. From the beginning to the end, he did not say a harsh word to Brooke.
