Ash, not wanting to outright refuse Dorothy’s invitation, thought it a good opportunity to clear the air with her. Thus, she gave a noncommittal “Hmm” from the corner of her mouth.
The next day, at eleven–thirty. Calvert arrived at the Turner family home as promised.
Jade, upon learning of Calvert’s visit, hurried down from upstairs, delighted. “Calvert, what brings you here so suddenly?”
Since their last encounter, Calvert had ignored Jade for several days. Jade thought he wasn’t angry anymore and had come looking for her, but unexpectedly, Ash appeared from behind.
With a stern face, Ash walked up to Calvert and linked her arm to his. “Aren’t we supposed to see Grandma? Let’s go, my
fance
Ash emphasized the word “fiance, clearly doing it on purpose.
Calvert’s eyes darkened, but he didn’t contradict her.
Jade’s expression changed as she looked at Calvert. “You… are going to the old mansion?”
“Yes, Calvert replied curtly, not wishing to say more.
Jade could tell Calvert was distancing himself from her. She pouted slightly, her eyes reddening instantly. “Be careful then..” Disgusted by Jade’s antics, Ash pulled Calvert away.
As soon as they stepped outside, she let go of his hand in disgust and got into the car.
Watching Ash’s quick change in demeanor, Calvert couldn’t help but twitch his lips upward. He got into the car and moved closer to Ash slowly.
If he dares to take advantage of me, I’ll beat him right away. Ash’s expression changed abruptly, and she leaned back, watching Calvert warily. “What do you want?”
Calvert smirked, reached over to fasten the seatbelt for her with practiced ease, and then sat up straight without giving Ash another glance.
Ash was annoyed inside. ‘He’s definitely doing this on purpose. Just because I linked arms with him to irritate Jade? Huh, so petty.”
They drove in silence until they reached the Snider family’s old mansion.
Ash got out of the car and was greeted by Dorothy warmly as soon as she entered. Dorothy took her hand. “Hi, Ash.”
“Hi, Mrs. Snider,” Ash greeted back.
Dorothy then led her to sit down, ignoring Calvert, who frowned before sitting beside them.
While Ash talked with Dorothy, Calvert couldn’t get a word in edgewise and was relegated to being a listener. His phone buzzed repeatedly in his pocket.

He took it out, finding it filled with messages from Jade.
Calvert, are you really ignoring me now?]
If you really think my presence is bothersome to you, then let’s just forget it.]

Calvert pinched the bridge of his nose impatiently and dicht reply to Jade’s messages, putting the phone back in his pocket.
Soon it was time for lunch.
Ash sat next to Dorothy, who served her and Calvert soup personally. “Try some; I made it early this morning. Tell me how
it tastes.
Ash took a sip and praised it. Very tasty.”
Drink more if you like it, Dorothy said with a smile. Seeing Calvert hadn’t started eating yet, she glared at him. “Why aren’t you eating!
Calvert was somewhat taken aback. Grandma is acting strange torlay. Not only is she targeting me, but she’s also very warm toward Ash.
After both had tasted the soup, Dorothy smiled secretly and signaled to a servant behind her with a look.
Shortly afterward, dessert was brought in by a servant who accidentally slipped, causing the entire plate of dessen to spill
onto Ash.
The servant turned pale from shock and apologized profusely. Im sorry; it was not intentional.”
Ash tried wiping it off with a napkin, but the stain only spread more.
Dorothy glared at the servant. “So clumsy, go and be punished.”
The servant quickly cleaned up the mess and left.
Dorothy looked at Ash. “There are clothes upstairs for you to change into. Let Calvert take you upstairs; I’ll have someone dry clean yours, and it will be ready shortly.”
“Sure,” Ash agreed without resistance, and Calvert led her into one of the guest rooms
But just as they entered, the door slammed shut with a thud. Calvert reacted quickly, but Dorothy, who had been prepared. was even quicker.
Hearing the lock click outside, Calvert leaned helplessly against the door and looked at Ash. “We’ve been set up by Grandma.
Ash didn’t seem to care. “I wasn’t interested in you anyway. I guess this time she’s going to be disappointed:
She opened the wardrobe, finding only men’s shirts inside. Without any fuss, she grabbed one and headed into the bathroom.
Throughout it all, she didn’t spare Calvert a single glance.
Although he wasn’t interested in her either, her blatant disregard wounded his pride deeply.
Mfter Ash finished her shower and came out, she saw Calvert smoking. The thin wisps of smoke softened his sharp features

somewhat.
She watched him for a moment, and as if noticing her gaze, he stubbed out the cigarette and walked over. Seeing her in his shirt, which just covered her knees and made her legs look incredibly long, his eyes gradually deepened, though the expression vanished quickly.
“So, what now?” Calvert asked.
Ash sat on the bed. “Let’s wait. Grandma locked us in here hoping to force the issue, but she overestimated you. Even if you stripped naked, I wouldn’t want to look.”
Calvert glanced at her sideways, his expression darkening immediately. He stepped closer to her and suddenly leaned down Ash, caught off guard, dodged back instinctively, losing her balance and falling onto the bed,
Calvert pinned her down with his hands beside her head. Trapped in the softness of the bed, his residual warmth slowly enveloped her.
Ash sensed the air around them becoming somewhat charged. She blinked, intending to push him away when he caught her wrist, and a chilling voice slid slowly into her ear. “Now I suspect you said that to provoke my interest
