The next day, Ash lay lazily in bed, her stomach churning with discomfort. She had no desire to go out.
Her phone rang, and she answered it.
“Ms. Turner, we found out that the truck driver from yesterday hasn’t been in contact with anyone from the Turner family recently,” the person on the other end of the phone said.
Ash nodded; she expected as much.
The kidnapping at the recognition event meant she hadn’t been formally introduced to the rest of the family, and she hadn’t yet crossed any of their interests. If Jade truly wanted to reconcile, then Ash hadn’t offended anyone else in the Turner family.
‘Who is so desperate to take my life?‘ Ash squinted her eyes. ‘Whoever dares to lay a hand on me will pay dearly.
“Pass it on; have Eleanor look into this,” she instructed before hanging up.
Before long, Brooke entered with cereal, sitting beside her.
Ash intended to get up to greet her but was stopped. “Just lie down; Mom will feed you.”
Since Ash was feeling unwell, Brooke had asked the housekeeper to prepare this breakfast.
Behind Brooke was a female doctor in a white coat, whom she had brought to examine Ash.
Ash took the cereal from her and slowly finished it. Meanwhile, the doctor set up her equipment.
Brooke introduced, “Ash, Dr. Valda Wheeler is the most renowned female traditional medicine doctor in Riverstone. Shell prescribe some medicine for your stomach pain.”
Ash raised an eyebrow. ‘She’s coming to treat me? This is a first.’
Unfortunately, her body was fine except for the lingering cold from an injury she sustained years ago when she fell into a glacier during a mission. If it weren’t for a mercenary who saved her, she might have frozen to death.
Though she had worked hard to recover, the coldness was ingrained in her bones. During special times, as long as she avoided anything cold, she was fine. But if she came into contact with cold things, the pain could knock her out.
In the fight with the truck driver, she had forgotten about this issue due to the tense situation.
Completely resolving her coldness wouldn’t happen overnight, especially since she was missing a crucial herb. Without it, even she couldn’t fully heal herself.
Seeing the concern in Brooke’s eyes, Ash obediently stretched out her hand for Valda to check.
“Mrs. Turner, your daughter seems to have suffered from frostbite in the past. She’s in good condition now, but she should avoid cold water,” Valda concluded quickly, her eyes filled with amazement.
She could tell that Ash had endured serious injuries but had managed to recover to this extent. She almost asked who had helped Ash before but held back, knowing it was a treatment session.
Brooke’s frown deepened. ‘How much has my precious daughter suffered over the years?‘

“Ash, I’m so sorry,” Brooke said, her face heavy with guilt.
Ash felt warmth in her heart, and the dull pain in her stomach seemed to fade away.
Back when she was with the Moreno family, her coldness was worse. She would be in agony every time. But her adoptive parents only sent her to the hospital and scolded her for being dramatic.
Of course, they wouldn’t care; she wasn’t their biological child.
Ash’s eyes shimmered as she smiled warmly. “I’ve been doing well these years; you don’t need to feel guilty, Mom.”
Seeing Ash so understanding made Brooke’s eyes misty. Her precious girl should have been pampered, yet life had shaped
her into someone so mature.

Brooke wished Ash could be a bit more selfish, which would mean someone had cared for her, giving her solid backing. But Ash’s demeanor revealed that her years hadn’t been easy.
Feeling warmth she had never experienced in the Moreno family, Ash’s heart grew softer.
Just then, a servant came in. “The Snider family is here to take Ash to a party.”
Brooke’s expression turned troubled. While she wanted Ash to develop a good relationship with Calvert, she didn’t want Ash to suffer any more discomfort.
At that moment, Jade happened to walk by. She had known Ash seemed injured, so when she saw the Snider family’s car at the door, she pretended to pass by casually.
Sure enough, Brooke called out to her, “Jade, can you help Mom decline the Snider family’s invitation? Tell them Ash isn’t feeling well and will meet them another time.”
Jade nodded obediently.
Watching Jade leave, Brooke sighed in relief. “You just rest and don’t think about anything else. If you need anything, just l Mom know.”
Ash wanted to ask about the truck driver’s follow–up, but seeing her mother’s caring gaze, she decided to hold her tongue. ‘Never mind; I’ll ask when I feel better.‘
Outside the room, Jade quickly found a mirror to check her makeup again.
She hadn’t been mistaken; the man in the car was Calvert.
Once satisfied with her appearance, she swiftly changed into a white spaghetti strap dress, spritzed on some perfume, and tucked her secret weapon into her handbag. With determination, she headed downstairs.
Inside the car, Calvert sat with a cold expression, staring at a photo in his hands.
It was the injury report of the truck driver sent by the police. The driver had his tendons severed, rendering him disabled, yet his body was otherwise unharmed, with not a single extra scratch on him.
This meant Ash had an accurate understanding of human meridians.
Thinking back to how she had used acupuncture to remove the aphrodisiac from him, Calvert’s eyes darkened. “Things are getting more interesting. How many more secrets do you have, my fiancée?‘
Calvert’s gaze unconsciously drifted to the window, and he didn’t even realize he looked a bit expectant.

Dean, sitting in the driver’s seat, caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror and was taken aback.
divert had always been aloof, and this was the first time Dean had seen him show such a gentle expression.
No wonder Dorothy has chosen her as her granddaughter–in–law; she is indeed remarkable.‘ Dean felt puzzled. If Mr. Snider caves so much for Ms. Turner, why hasn’t he rescued her sooner?‘
As the gate of the Turner family opened slowly, Dean looked over to see Jade arriving.

“Calvert, were you waiting for me?” Jade said with a smile. She happily hopped into the car. She clutched the item in her bag tightly, not mentioning her promise to her mother.
