Chapter 58
Jade hurriedly jogged downstairs and stood beside Brooke, her face filled with concern. “Mom, what’s wrong?”
“I’m fine.” Brooke waved her hand weakly, urging Ash. “You and Madeline should leave now. My old problem acts up, and it doesn’t matter.”
Ash remained calm, following Madeline as they prepared to leave.
“Stop!” Jade called out loudly, blocking her way. “You’re not allowed to leave.”
At that moment, Caspian, having heard the commotion, rushed over. He looked at the pool of blood in front of his mother, panic evident on his face, but he couldn’t find the words to speak.
“Mom just took the nourishing pill Ash gave her, and she vomited blood. Ash can’t leave,” Jade said, her face pale.
Caspian quickly stepped in front of the two, glaring fiercely at Ash, unable to voice his thoughts.
He only thought, ‘She’s a troublemaker. Look at what she has done to Mom!‘
Seeing him trying to curse but unable to make a sound, Ash smiled slightly, somewhat regretting her ability to read lips.
But it was fine. At least it wasn’t too noisy.
“Mom is fine.” Ash’s tone remained calm, her expression unperturbed. “Just call Tess to clean up. Wiping away the blood is enough.”
Madeline, who had been somewhat worried, relaxed as she heard Ash’s words.
Jade raised her voice slightly. “How could you be so indifferent? Mom has been so good to you, and you’ve injured her.”
Brooke wanted to speak, but a bitter taste filled her throat, and she coughed up another blood clot.
This commotion quickly attracted Josh. He panicked when he saw his wife spitting blood. “Ash, you need to take a look at what’s going on!”
Seeing Josh, Jade took a step back. Even though Brooke raised her, at that moment, Jade wished for something to happen to Brooke.
If that were to happen, Ash, who had delivered the nourishing pill, would surely be implicated.
Jade wanted to see if Brooke would still treat Ash kindly after being harmed by her own daughter.
Ash stepped forward, placing her hands on Brooke’s pulse, her expression remaining unchanged throughout.
Ash thought, ‘Sure enough, it is as I have guessed.
“There’s nothing to worry about.” Ash glanced at the darkened blood on the floor and said casually, “She has some stagnant blood blocking her heart. It’s normal to spit out a small amount.”
Jade looked at her skeptically. “Do you understand medicine?”
“I don’t know. You do,” Ash replied coldly, too uninterested to argue with her.
Jade was momentarily speechless, glancing around at the others but ultimately saying nothing.
Withdrawing her hands, Ash turned to Brooke, her tone softening. “Don’t worry. This is all normal. Try to see if the pressure in your chest has eased a bit.”

Brooke calmed down, carefully feeling the changes in her body. The tight pain in her chest had indeed subsided.
Her eyes lit up, her voice faint. “It really has.”
“Then there’s no problem. The nourishing pill helps to clear out the stagnant blood in your chest, so spitting blood is expected,” Ash said.

Brooke’s face showed relief. She had been worried that there might be some issues with the medicine given by Ash, which was why she wanted Ash to leave. Brooke didn’t expect it to be a sign of improvement.
Meanwhile, Caspian turned and went upstairs to call the family doctor, Camilo Perkins.
Jade was happy that he did so.
Jade thought, ‘How could someone from a humble background understand medicine? It must be an act.
She was just waiting to see Ash get exposed by the family doctor.
Ash remained calm and composed, standing at the side.

When Camilo arrived and saw the blood on the floor, his face turned serious. However, after examining Brooke, he came to the same conclusion as Ash.
“Mrs. Turner’s condition has improved significantly. The last acupuncture treatment, combined with these nourishing pills, could extend her life by at least another year,” Camilo reported.
Upon hearing this, Josh was overjoyed. O., Camilo had said his wife had only a year to live, but now she had at least
two more years. He had more time to search for miraculous medicine to prolong her life.
“Thank you,” he said gratefully.
Camilo raised his hand. “I didn’t do anything. You should thank the person who treated her and Prunella for the nourishing pill.”
Brooke looked at Ash, joy radiating from her face. “You’re truly my lucky star.”
Ash smirked and returned a smile.
This unexpected turn of events made everyone happy, except for Caspian and Jade.
Madeline, however, was not surprised. If her best friend took action, there would be no problems.
As she got into the Bugatti that Madeline drove, Ash tilted her head and said, “Are you alone this time?”
“Yeah. It’s been a while since I drove in the country. I usually don’t hire a driver,” Madeline replied, glancing at her. “But what about you? You got a fiancé and didn’t tell me. If I hadn’t found out myself, how long were you going to keep it from me?”
“It’s a long story,” Ash said, feeling unusually guilty and unsure how to introduce him.
Her engagement with Calvert only lasted a year, so Ash didn’t want to tell anyone. But it couldn’t keep it under wraps.
In the end, Ash chose to tell the truth.
After hearing the whole story, Madeline concluded, “So you two are just a one–year contractual engagement?”
Ash nodded and raised an eyebrow. “Do you know Calvert? You look so disappointed.”
“We had interactions at work before,” Madeline said with a regretful look. “I really thought you two were the real deal. I even had the gift ready, but it turns out…”

While they were discussing, the car had already stopped.

Madeline led her out of the car and said with pity, “Such an outstanding guy is right in front of you, and you didn’t feel the slightest attraction.”
Ash reminisced and couldn’t help but scoff. “He’s good–looking, but he’s cold and unpredictable.”
Madeline thought her friend made a good point and nodded, ready to agree.
Suddenly, she felt a chill.
Madeline glanced over her shoulder, and sure enough, the subject of their conversation was right behind them.
Madeline thought, ‘Is there anything more embarrassing than being caught gossiping about my boss?‘
She chuckled awkwardly, “Actually, I think he’s pretty good.”
Ash didn’t notice her friend’s discomfort. “You were deceived by that face. You don’t know his true nature.”
After spending these days together, Ash had long discovered Calvert’s faults.
“What’s my true nature?” a chilling voice suddenly interrupted from behind them.
Calvert’s expression was cold as his gaze lingered on Ash.
