Ash was caught off guard. She raised an eyebrow and said, “Did you hear that? I didn’t know you had this quirk, enjoying hearing others roast you.”

Seeing Ash’s face, which showed no signs of embarrassment despite being caught, and her bright, sparkling eyes looking at him, Calvert found his irritation strangely fading away.
“Mr. Snider.” Madeline greeted him, very self–aware, then stepped aside to avoid being a third wheel.
Although Ash had said they were just a couple on paper, it seemed like there was more to it.
Calvert, who was usually aloof and uninterested in others‘ affairs, was actually initiating a conversation. This was quite rare in her eyes.
Calvert nodded slightly in acknowledgment but kept his gaze fixed on Ash.
“What are you doing here?” Ash turned to survey the large shop, noticing it was just a styling studio. She looked a bit confused. “Here to get your hair done, too?”
Calvert’s eyes were deep and unreadable. Dorothy knew Ash was coming here for styling, so Dorothy had purposely brought him along, saying that since they were a couple, they should always be together. Otherwise, it would break their year–long
agreement.
“I’m here to see my girlfriend,” Calvert said softly, as if stating a simple fact.
Ash’s eyes widened. It was the first time he had referred to her as his girlfriend in public. She hadn’t expected it to happen in front of a friend.
From the corner of her eye, she caught Madeline’s meaningful expression.
Noticing Ash seemed a bit uncomfortable, Calvert leaned down and whispered in her ears, “Did I say something wrong?”
Ash felt a warm breath wash over her, tingling along her spine and limbs.
A strange feeling washed over her. Ash felt that Calvert was both unfamiliar and intimidating.
“Right, there’s no problem at all.” Ash quickly retreated a step, her earlier composure evaporating.
Ash thought, ‘Calvert was definitely doing it on purpose. He saw my friend nearby but still chose to lean in so close.
Calvert’s lips parted slightly, his voice laced with a barely noticeable softness. “Dorothy asked me to help you pick out a couple’s outfit for the dinner.”
“Got it.” Ash turned away, avoiding his gaze. “I have Madeline here with me, so I won’t waste your precious time. I’ll have the clothes delivered.”
With that, she grabbed Madeline and hurried into the styling studio.
Calvert watched her retreating figure, a smirk playing on his lips. It was amusing to see her pretend to be so innocent when
she was not.
If it weren’t for Dorothy’s strict orders, Calvert might have left right then.
Moments later, Calvert followed Ash at a leisurely pace.
“I’ve reserved those window seats. Don’t let anyone disturb us,” he said coldly, taking a seat at the window with his laptop in
hand.

The nearby server responded respectfully and left. This wasn’t his first time here; they were already familiar with his habits.
Before long, a “Temporarily Closed” sign hung at the entrance.
Meanwhile, Madeline, who had already reached the styling area, teasingly looked at Ash. “It seems like you just made a hasty
retreat?”
“That’s not the case,” Ash replied calmly, reverting to her usual demeanor. She then asked, “Is the boss you mentioned him?”
Madeline nodded and said meaningfully, “I suspect you’re trying to change the subject.”
“That’s not true,” Ash replied nonchalantly. “What do you want to ask?”
Madeline said, “I’ve never seen Calvert initiate a conversation with another woman like that before. You’re the first. I just can’t believe it if you two have no feelings for each other.”
“You’ve been with him for a few years, so it’s natural for you to be charmed by him,” Ash said, recalling how he had been with Jade. Then she added. “I’m not the first, and I won’t be the last, so I’m not interested in him.”
“Is that so?” Madeline remained skeptical.
Ash treated other men like they were air, but she didn’t seem as indifferent when it came to Calvert.
But since Ash spoke with such conviction, Madeline reluctantly let go of her thoughts. “You and Calvert would make a great pair. What a pity.”
Ash pressed her lips together and didn’t think so.
But it seemed everyone was saying they should be together.
Thinking of Calvert’s impeccably handsome features and how he occasionally came to her rescue, Ash suddenly felt he might not be that bad.
Since they were already in a couple’s relationship, even if it was just pretend, she might as well play her part well.
As she contemplated, Madeline called over a stylist. “Please give my friend a great makeover. It has to be the most beautiful kind.”
“Sure thing!” The experienced stylist smiled brightly. “With her good foundation, we can create something stunning.”
“Yeah, she’s attending a dinner tonight as the main guest, so it has to be high–profile and dazzling,” Madeline emphasized with satisfaction.
The stylist happily agreed. Looking at Ash’s grace and figure, she quickly came up with several design ideas.
Ash was breathtakingly beautiful, like a vision of pure elegance.
The stylist’s job was to infuse her look with vivid, lively touches to bring out her beauty in a more dazzling way.
Ash usually trusted the stylist Madeline recommended, especially since she didn’t care much about these things herself.
Hours later, Ash appeared, more stunning and luminous than ever, captivating everyone around her.
Madeline couldn’t take her eyes off Ash, filled with admiration. “It’s a shame I’m a woman. Otherwise, I’d be completely smitten by you.”
Ash smiled brightly, gracefully admiring Madeline, who had also been styled. “You look great too.”
“Of course.” Madeline proudly lifted her head, satisfied as she assessed her reflection in the mirror.

After finishing his work outside the private room, Calvert looked up and immediately noticed his assistant, Shane, approaching him.
“Mr. Snider, I couldn’t get to the bottom of the matter you asked me to investigate,” Shane said, lowering his head, his expression troubled.
