Ash furrowed her attractive brows slightly. This was their first meeting, and Calvin’s words seemed a bit too rude.
Sure enough, she turned and saw Calvert’s sullen face.
“What do you mean by that, Mr. Rowse?” Ash asked slowly, gently placing her cup on the table.
Calvert, understanding when to back off, softened his tone. “It was just a joke, Ms. Turner. Don’t take it to heart.”
“That’s good to hear, Ash said.
The previously tense atmosphere relaxed, and Calvin headed straight over to sit with the others.
“There’s no seat for you here.” Calvert’s voice was cold and distant, carrying an unmistakable refusal.
Ash glanced around; there were two empty chairs right beside her.
Calvin didn’t respond. Instead, he turned to Ash and said, “What do you think, Ms. Turner?”
“My fiance doesn’t welcome you, so you should please take your designated seat.” Ash’s voice was calm as if stating a simple fact.
“That’s truly disheartening, Calvin said with a hint of regret, shrugging his shoulders, but his smile remained undiminished.
Ash didn’t look at him; she lowered her head, revealing her delicate profile, while internally puzzled. She wasn’t familiar with the Rowse family and had only known Baz. Until today, she didn’t even know Baz was from one of the four major families
Yet Calvin seemed very interested in her. His sharp gaze had been fixed on her since she stepped off the stage.
She only accepted his drink to please Baz, but if he continued to linger, that would go too far. Ash’s expression turned cold.
Calvin remained undeterred, politely extending his hand. “Give me your cup. I’ll put it back for you.”
“It’s not your concern, Calvert said as he took the empty cup from Ash’s hand and turned to place it back on the bar.
The waiting servant quickly collected the used cup and replaced it with a new one.
Seeing this, Calvin narrowed his eyes. It was indeed an interesting phenomenon, and this trip had not been in vain.
The typically aloof Calvert was surprisingly protective of someone other than Jade.
Noticing Ash’s chilly demeanor, he turned and returned to his original seat.
“Calvin, why did you suddenly go over there?” Baz asked, puzzled. “Don’t get any bad ideas about her.”
Calvin’s face was cold, and he said nothing, his previous gentlemanly demeanor vanished as he fixed his icy gaze on the couple sitting together in the distance.
Tiffany remained silent. She couldn’t see through Calvin and sometimes felt a bit afraid of him.
At that moment, Jade approached with a drink, trying to make small talk. “Tiffany, you look amazing. You’re getting prettier every day
“Oh, stop it. I’m getting old. This is your generation’s time,” Tiffany replied.
“You can’t tell at all. If someone didn’t know, they’d probably think you were my sister,” Jade said, smiling sweetly, as if

stating a fact.
Tiffany beamed with joy. “You really know how to flatter.”
Jade’s gaze, however, kept drifting towards the two nearby. She had just seen Calvin approach with a drink, only to be quickly sent back. She took the opportunity to comfort him.
“Mr. Rowse, would you care for a drink?” Jade raised her glass towards Calvin.
“No.” Calvin’s cold voice washed over Jade like a bucket of ice water, leaving her heart feeling frozen.
It was the first time someone had rejected Jade so bluntly, causing her expression to stiffen.
Jade thought, ‘Why has he been so forward with Ash, yet is now so unrelenting towards me?‘
Jade gritted her teeth, her face souring for a moment.
Tiffany quickly stood up to mediate. “My son can be a bit cold. Don’t take it to heart. Let’s have a drink together.”
“Okay.” Jade’s face regained its gentle smile as she gracefully continued conversing with Tiffany.
The evening progressed amidst everyone’s small talk, and Josh and Brooke were quite satisfied with their daughters‘ performances.
However, Calvert remained sullen, his gaze coldly fixed on Ash.
Though he didn’t show it openly, Ash, who had been with Calvert for some time, sensed it and pondered for a moment before saying to her parents, “I’ll go see him off.”
On the way from the living room to the parking lot, Calvert walked in silence. Ash turned to him. “What’s wrong? Did someone offend you?”
“You,” Calvert said.
Noting Calvert’s reticence, Ash held her tongue and quietly walked alongside him.
The streetlights lining the Turner family’s road illuminated their slender figures, while the roses along the path released a captivating fragrance, creating a serene and harmonious atmosphere.
“Can’t you explain?” Calvert turned his head, his gaze deep.
“What should I explain?” Ash lifted her eyes, her beautiful face reflecting confusion.
After a moment, she realized he must be upset about Vania’s matter. She narrowed her eyes slightly. “I might have gotten too close to you today, I thought it might make Mom happier. I’ll be more careful in the future.”
Calvert furrowed his brows. After all this time, Ash didn’t even know what he was upset about.
They had a one–year agreement during which they could do anything couples do, and holding hands didn’t count as being too close.
“That’s not it.” Calvert looked at Ash’s innocent expression, took a deep breath, and spoke slowly in a voice tinged with magnetism. “We agreed that within this year, you can’t get close to other men outside. Have you forgotten?”
Ash raised her eyes, uncertainly asking, “You mean Calvin?”
“Who else?” Calvert said.
Hearing Calvert’s response, Ash felt speechless. She thought, ‘It was just a drink. Does he really need to blow it out of

Noticing the confusion in her eyes, Calvert’s thin lips parted. “You didn’t hear any rumors about him before you returned to the Turner family?”
“I didn’t,” Ash replied honestly. She focused on business developments and didn’t consider gossip news.
Shane walked up and said, “If Calvin sets his sights on a woman, he’ll get her. He swaps girlfriends dozens of times a year. He’s a real player. Mr. Snider is just concerned that you might get fooled by him.”
After speaking, he glanced at Calvert’s expression; everything seemed normal, so it appeared he hadn’t misspoken.
Ash’s lips lifted slightly, her eyes sparkling with a bright tone. “If you’re worried about me, just say it. No need to beat around the bush. Don’t worry. I won’t be fooled by him.”
To her surprise, Calvert was upset because of her, which inexplicably lightened her mood.
Seeing Ash’s smiling face, Calvert was stunned, his expression somewhat awkward. “I’m not worried about you. Shane, let’s
go.”
