Chapter 68
“Okay.” Just a single word, yet it represented remarkable efficiency.
By the time Ash followed Tristan into the reception room, all the employees had already left.
To her surprise, Haley and Jaeden were also there.
Ash thought, ‘So this man, brimming with confidence, thought he could use his parents as the ultimate trump card?‘
Ash nearly laughed in anger. In the past, she had always treated Haley and Jaeden with the respect due to elders, giving them all the expensive gifts.
However, once they found out she wasn’t the heiress of the Moreno family, Haley and Jaeden had decisively pushed for Tristan to get engaged to Samantha.
“Jewel, I heard you work here. Go get your boss to bring us some good coffee. I’m parched after waiting so long,” Haley ordered as soon as Ash walked in, her tone unapologetically authoritative.
Back when she was with the Ford family, she hadn’t hesitated to comply with Haley’s demands, thinking of her as her boyfriend’s parent. But things had changed. Ash thought, ‘Did they expect her to serve them like before?‘
Not a chance.
Ash stood frozen at the door, watching them with an amused expression.
“What are you waiting for? Didn’t you hear Mom say she wants coffee?” Tristan chimed in. Even when they had minor disagreements, she would always yield to him once they got home, giving him the respect he felt entitled to.
Ash leaned lazily against the doorframe, looking at them as if they were a bunch of fools.
“Shadow Ventures doesn’t provide any beverages to partners who can’t contribute to the company,” she said coolly, making no move to comply.
Haley, who was used to being pampered by Ash, couldn’t tolerate this attitude. She shot up from her seat, her expression twisting with anger, ready to scold Ash for not respecting her elders.
Jaeden quickly stepped in, positioning himself in front of her with a forced smile. “Haley’s just a bit impatient. Please don’t take it to heart.”
He hadn’t spoken up earlier because he wanted to gauge how much affection Ash had for their family, but her attitude made it clear she was treating them like strangers.
Jaeden was getting anxious. The Ford Group relied heavily on Shadow Ventures‘ investment. They couldn’t afford to offend Ash at this critical moment.
“Just tell me what you need. I have other matters to attend to.” Ash’s tone softened slightly when addressing this relatively civil elder.
“I wanted to ask if you could give the Ford family another investment, just one last time,” Jaeden implored, desperation seeping into his voice.
Previously, Shadow Ventures had been exceedingly tolerant, allowing him to take bold risks in management, which had led to significant losses.
Now that Shadow Ventures was withdrawing its investment, it posed a massive threat to the company’s cash flow.
“Why are you even talking to her?” Haley snapped, her patience wearing thin. Ash’s earlier demeanor had embarrassed her,

so she bluntly continued, “What’s all this about if it’s not just to get Tristan to marry you? If you can secure continued investment from Shadow Ventures, we’ll agree to your terms.”
Tristan chimed in, “That’s right. I listen to my parents.”
Ash couldn’t help but doubt her past judgment. She thought, ‘How have I ever been attracted to him?
“Both of you, shut up.” Jaeden glared at them, frustrated by their inability to help the situation.
When he saw Ash’s impatient look, Jaeden quickly continued, “As long as you agree to let Shadow Ventures continue investing, you can set any conditions you want.”
Ash paused to consider, her tone serious as she confirmed, “Any condition?”
Jaeden gritted his teeth. “As long as I can manage it, yes.”
Ash glanced at Tristan and calmly stated her demand, “Then here’s the deal. If you can remove Tristan from his position as general manager and ensure he never returns to Riverstone, I’ll arrange for Shadow Ventures to make one last investment.”
Tristan’s face went pale when he heard this. “Jewel, you can’t be so heartless to me.”
Haley was furious as well. Tristan was her favorite son, who had always listened to her, and now Ash wanted to separate them.
“If you want to ruin the Ford Group, just say so. Why all this nonsense?” Haley scolded, her previously composed expression turning monstrous.
Ash remained unfazed, glancing at her. “I remember the Ford family has another son, Terry. He could take Tristan’s place.”
“No way. I can’t agree to that.” Haley was instantly beside herself. Although Terry was also her son, he rarely listened to her and often went against her wishes. She couldn’t let the company fall into his hands.
“Then I ask you to leave.” Ash’s tone was resolute.
Jaeden panicked. The priority was to save the company, regardless of whether it was run by the eldest or youngest son. They were both his blood.
Seeing no room for negotiation, Jaeden finally relented and nodded. “Fine, I agree. I’ll send Tristan abroad, and Terry will take his place.”
Ash nodded, a smirk playing on her lips. “Once you do that, Shadow Ventures will provide the Ford family with one last investment.”
As the two of them decided his fate, Tristan completely lost his cool. “No way! I’m not going abroad. Mom, please talk to Dad…”
“Stop talking. It’s decided,” Jaeden said firmly.
With Jaeden’s decision made, Tristan scanned the room, his gaze landing fiercely on Ash. “Jewel, how did I not realize how malicious you are before? You’re just pretending, aren’t you? Don’t think you can live a life of luxury forever just because you slept with the chairman of Shadow Ventures. One day you’ll grow old and be discarded.”
Ash looked at him with indifference, her eyes betraying no emotion. “Is rage all you’re capable of?”
“What are you pretending for? You act all high and mighty but don’t let me sleep with you. Yet you have seduced many men.
I can’t stand people like you. You’re not worthy of being my servant!” Tristan spat.
As soon as he finished speaking, a loud “bang” echoed through the room as he was sent flying.

Tristan’s mouth collided with the edge of a nearby table, knocking out two teeth and spilling blood.
But the person hitting him didn’t give up. Grabbing him by the collar, they landed several more punches to his face, leaving Tristan bruised and bloodied before he finally lost consciousness.
“Help! Someone is trying to kill my son!” Haley cried out in panic.
Ash’s pupils contracted, and the calm expression on her face vanished completely.
