Chapter 88
Chapter 88
“What’s the fuss about?” Calvert glanced at the receptionist coldly.
Kamari was extremely delighted. Calvert usually just passed by and never took the initiative to speak to her. This was the first time she had received such treatment.
She acted as if she had found someone to cling to and explained obsequiously. “This woman said that she’s your fiancée aud asked me to report it to you. I knew at a glance that she was lying. How could she be worthy of such a wise and mighty person like you? So I stopped her on your behalf.”
Ash stood on the spot with her arms crossed, watching the scene in front of her indifferently. She wanted to see what Calven wanted to do.
“Who gave you the guts to make decisions for me?” Calvert said in an icy tone. “Go handle your resignation procedures yourself.”
Kamari didn’t expect this answer. Her expression froze as she tried to understand how this could happen.
The Snider Group offered excellent benefits and had high selection standards. It took all of Kamari’s effort to finally get in as a receptionist.
Calvert had always disliked meddling in others‘ affairs, which was why she had been helping him chase away unwanted women. But today, it seemed she made a big mistake.
Kamari instantly understood and looked at Ash pleadingly. “I was wrong. Please ask Mr. Snider not to fire me. I apologize to you.”
Before Ash could speak, Calvert said indifferently, “If you continue to pester me, I will revoke your severance pay.”
Hearing this, Kamari’s face turned pale. She instantly understood that what the woman before her had said was probably
true.
As she knew, Jade was Calvert’s fiancée. She didn’t know what was going on. Lost in her sorrow over the dismissal. Kamari had no time to ponder the situation further. She could only accept her fate. After all, severance pay was still a significant amount of money.
The security guard at the door witnessed the scene and felt a surge of satisfaction. This receptionist had always judged others by their looks and looked down on people like him. Now that she was facing dismissal, no one was stepping up to speak for her.
The guard’s gaze lingered on Ash. Even when Jade came to the company, he had never seen Calvert personally come down to welcome her. So he was determined to remember Ash’s face and not make the same mistake.
“Sorry, I didn’t train her properly.” There was a hint of regret in Calvert’s voice.
Ash looked up and saw his serious face. “It’s fine,” she said. She didn’t take such a small problem to heart as long as Calvert wasn’t doing it on purpose,
After the unpleasant incident earlier, Calvert chose to take her away from the office and brought her to a cafe.
After the two of them sat down, Calvert asked, “Tell me, why are you looking for me?”
Ash looked puzzled. ‘Isn’t he the one who wants to talk to me?‘
But she didn’t dwell on it. Since she was already there, it was a good opportunity to discuss the matter of the land with him. “Do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me?” Ash asked straightforwardly.

Calvert gazed at her intently, puzzled. He had clearly seen her get into another man’s car right in front of him. That wasn’t a misunderstanding at all.
“I thought you were here to apologize, Calvert said, taking a sip of the coffee on the table. His every move exuded elegance and nobility
After a moment, he set the cup down. “Now, it seems not.”
“I apologize?” Ash furrowed her brows even deeper.
Seeing her innocent and unrepentant face, Calvert’s expression darkened. “Don’t you have an explanation for what happened between you and William?”
“There’s nothing between us. What are you even talking about?” Ash did not understand what Calvert was thinking
Calvert studied her expression intently. Her gaze was calm and her tone was firm, showing no signs that she was putting on
an act
If not for the evidence in his hands, Calvert would have believed her.
This woman was so scheming. It seemed he should let her interact less with his grandmother in the future.
Seeing him fall silent, Ash thought he had understood her explanation. She continued, “Shadow Ventures is currently competing for the land of the former Riverstone’s Commercial Area. That piece of land is useless to the Snider family, so1 hope you can quit.”
Calvert sneered. No wonder she said such things earlier. It turned out she was here to persuade him for her lover.
“For the sake of Shadow Ventures, you’re really willing to go to any lengths.” He stood up, his expression dark. “Even if I can’t get this piece of land, I won’t let Shadow Ventures have it.”
With that, he turned around and left quickly, leaving Ash stunned on the spot.
She didn’t know what was wrong with him. She had already explained it clearly.
Taking out her phone, Ash’s expression was calm as her slender fingers typed out a message. [Disrupt the Snider Group’s business. Keep them too busy to snatch the land.]
[Yes, Boss.] A quick reply came from the other end of the phone.
At the Turner family residence.
Jade had already packed her bags. The message she had sent to that man had worked. He arranged for her to play the female third lead in a large–scale television drama. In the role, she would portray a positive character, and once the show aired it would definitely become popular.
Lachlan looked at jade and asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to develop in our company’s film and television department?”
“I’ve made my decision,” Jade nodded, her face full of determination. “After all, our company isn’t primarily focused on film and television. I want to go out on my own and strive for greater success.”
Looking at the unusual determination on Jade’s face and the ambition that she had never shown before, Lachlan did not continue to object. “Since you’ve made up your mind, go ahead and do it”
As soon as she got into the car, she received a message on WhatsApp. [Miss, do you still keep your promise?)
Looking at Samantha’s message, she quickly replied, [Of course. How much investment does your family need?]

She had previously sent someone to investigate. The Moreno family’s company made only tens of thousands of dollars in profit a year, she figured that an investment of at most 350 thousand dollars would probably be enough.
Thinking about how Calvert hadn’t come to find Ash in the past couple of days, Jade felt that this deal was still quite profitable
My dad said it’s not much. For now, 80 million dollars should be enough.] Samantha didn’t really understand the company’s affairs. She just wanted to prove her worth in front of her family.
+5
Seeing that number, Jade deleted her earlier promise from the chat and typed a new message. [Are you kidding me? A small company that barely makes 350 thousand dollars a year could never need this much.J
Jade put
down her phone with a displeased expression. The company wasn’t large, yet they were quite bold to ask for such a high investment.
On the other side, Samantha stared blankly at the messages on her phone, her expression slightly grim. She wondered if her parents were lying to her.
Just then, Lorelei walked over and asked, “How’s the investment going? Your dad has been so anxious during this time.”
Samantha asked uncertainly, “How much can the company earn in a year?”
“About 350 thousand dollars or so. Why are you asking that?”
“If it can only earn so little, why would you need an investment of over 30 million dollars? Are you and Dad teaming up to mess with me?” Samantha said, no longer holding back.
