Chapter 29
Or maybe what he thought hadn’t changed was something I had yet to notice.
The thought made my skin prickle. There was something about him now–something far more dangerous, far more obsessive, that I couldn’t ignore. My mind raced, and a chill ran down my spine.
Before I could say anything more, Ethan turned to me, his expression suddenly more serious. ***Be careful,*** he said softly. ***I don’t want anything to happen to you. If you
need to move, I’ll help you.***
His words were laced with an emotion I couldn’t place. I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, he had already pulled away, his car speeding off into the night.
I stood frozen for a moment, watching his taillights disappear into the distance.
His concern was oddly suffocating. It was as if he didn’t trust me to make my own decisions, like I was somehow incapable of protecting myself.
But that wasn’t the part that bothered me.
It was the fact that he had never told me about the severed leg found near my building.
I wasn’t an idiot. I knew that dismembered body had to be connected to the plague somehow. Ethan must’ve known, and yet he never mentioned it.
Why?
I couldn’t stop myself from fuming as i trudged back to my apartment. My suitcase felt heavier than it had in years, and every step up the stairs felt like a reminder of all the wounds I still carried. Injuries like these never truly heal, no matter how much I tried to

Finally, I reached the sixth floor and unlocked the door to my apartment. The place smelled stale, coated in dust, and the plants on the windowsill had withered, their once green leaves

now shriveled and brown.
I sighed, pushing the door open and stepping inside. It had been a long time since I’d done anything resembling Omega work, and I had all but forgotten what it felt like to keep up a home after leaving the Nightwish pack.
But as I started cleaning, the doorbell rang unexpectedly.
froze.
“Hello, I’m Kate, the housekeeper Mr. Ethan hired for you,” came the voice from the other
side of the door,
I blinked in surprise, unsure of what to make of it. “Kate?” I muttered, hesitating for a
moment before I let her inside.
The middle–aged Omega was quick to start working, her blonde hair tied back in a messy bun as she dusted the furniture and swept the floors. But when she stepped further into the apartment, her face went pale.
“Why are you still living here?!” Kate exclaimed, her voice shaking in horror. “This is far too dangerous for an Omega like you!”
I frowned, confused by her reaction. “What’s wrong?” I asked, my curiosity piqued. “Where
else should I live?”
Kate started cleaning more frantically, muttering to herself. **“Oh, dear. Just yesterday, they found a severed leg on the street near your building–in a trash bin, nearly scavenged by a homeless guy! It wasn’t until they saw the toes that they realized… it was a werewolf’s leg!“**
I almost choked on my water at the news, coughing violently.
Kate ducked out of the way as I sputtered, continuing her spiel. **“It’s dangerous for an Omega like you to live here. You really ought to move.”

I shook my head, trying to process the new information. *What the hell is going on?*

Chapter 29
It hit me like a ton of bricks–Ethan must’ve known about the severed leg. He had been hinting that it wasn’t safe, but he never told me this crucial detail.
Was he trying to protect me? Or was he keeping me in the dark for some other reason?
I was livid. *Why didn’t he tell me?*
I grabbed my phone, preparing to call Ethan and rip him apart for withholding such
mportant information, but I quickly realized I had no way of reaching him. No mindlink. No phone number.
Shoot.
Just then, my phone buzzed with an incoming call. An unknown number.
I hesitated, then answered and discovered it was Ethan.
