Chapter 34
“That Beta from Ninth Alley who often comes to sucem see you–wher’s his name
asked Steven.
Our acquaintance had been purely coincidental. About a year ago, I’d been stacking a virus–carrying werewolf and happened to visit his home.
Steven used to be the son of the Alpha and Luna of the Cloud Shadow Pack. But after his parents mysteriously disappeared, the pack was devoured by others
Steven went from being a noble prince to a rogue. As an omega, he was forced to sell himself, maybe both body and mental, to repay his parents‘ debts, contracting illnesses inn the process. Though he ran a bar now, his earnings barely covered his medication
I had helped him cure some of his illnesses, but many symptoms were still only manageable at best.
“I don’t know,” Steven replied coldly. “He’s just a customer. Nothing else.”
“Are you sure? He used to be one of the Cloud Shadow Pack” I noticed a similar smell on them and made up a bold lie, but unexpected, Steven took the bait.
“So what? Don’t expect to get anything out of me unless it’s an even trade.”
“What trade? You?” I burst into laughter, looking at his eyes sincerely, ‘Don’t be silly. Lock around–there are werewolves everywhere, watching you omega every move, and you’re deep in the forest. Do you really think you can escape? If you cooperate with us, I’ll help you. I’ve done it before, haven’t I?”
Steven seemed a little hesitant, but in the end he said nothing. It’s okay, I’ll find another
way.
I was distracted by the dim, rain–slick streets outside.
Ethan was still nowhere to be seen.
Chapter 34
“What’s your relationship with him–the guy from earlier? Steven pressed, we still gaze demanding an answer.
Propping my chin on my hand, I furrowed my brow impatiently. “I told you–he’s pot a coworker. A temporary one.”
Steven said nothing more, but his expression lightened, a smirk revealing one sharp canine
I absentmindedly scrolled through my phone, debating whether to text Ethan to ask when
he’d return.
While flipping through my photo gallery, I stumbled upon something familiar–the dismembered limb I’d discovered that day looked eerily similar to one from a medical
mission I had worked on years ago.
It took time to retrieve those records. Back then, the limb had belonged to a Beta enforcer who had disappeared after sending his wife a final message: “Mission complete. Once I get the money, we’ll leave this place.”
He vanished without a trace. His wife, an omega, couldn’t accept it and repeatedly confronted the employer, who claimed the payment had been settled and the Beta’s fate was no longer their concern.
That omega wasn’t the submissive type. She was volatile, much like me. I remembered Kai, who had been on that mission with me, mentioning that she was later threatened. Someone sent her her husband’s severed arm, demanding she become a prostitute to earn ransom
money.
It was horrifying.
But cases like this were far too common. I had grown numb–past the initial rage and heartbreak. Still, I was certain this had a connection to the werewolf virus. If I could uncover its mechanisms, I might save more innocent lives.
The Beta I was searching for had a distinct tattoo, but the truth felt shrouded in fog. How could I peel away its layers?
“Steven, I’m heading out,” I said, rising from my seat.
Outside, I noticed the garbage bin near the wall. Ethan had clearly been back.
Frowning, I stepped forward.
The rain had stopped, leaving the ground muddy. My jeans hugged my legs, highlighting the curve between my thighs and hips as I passed a sauna with my head down.
“Hey, slut! How much is you?” An omega with a cigarette whistled at me. When I ignored
im, he spat, “Think you’re better than me?”
Narrowing my eyes, I bared my teeth, tempted to put him in his place.
The girl clinging to his arm shot me a panicked glance, shook her head frantically, and then
turned back to appease the omega, “Ignore that bitch. Let’s just start.”
A few minutes later, the reeking omega left. Outside, a voice called, “Max, there’s a really
handsome Alpha here to see you!”
An Alpha in this remote area? It could only be Ethan. What was he up to?
Max glanced at her watch, sighing weakly. “I don’t have time for him. I need to get back to my baby.”
My chest tightened. I guess her baby couldn’t be more than three years old.
The other girl, undeterred, descended the stairs, her cheeks flushed as she glanced suspiciously at me before continuing, “Come on, you have to! This client–he’s so hot you’ll lose control!”
I averted my gaze and quietly slipped to the other side of the house to observe.
About ten minutes later, Ethan’s figure came into view–poised, upright, and resolute. I wasn’t sure if he could sense my scent.
“Are you Max?” he asked in an even tone.
Chapter 34
Max visibly paled. “Y–Yes…” Her eyes lowered in shame.
“Don’t be afraid,” Ethan reassured her. “I’m Ethan, Alpha of the Nightwish Pack. If you ever need help, call this number.”
“You’re… Alpha Ethan?” Max’s voice trembled, her hand covering her mouth in shock.
“Anything concerning your husband–you can talk to me.”
Max crumbled, tears streaming as if a dam had burst.
Ethan waited patiently, offering her a handkerchief when she finished.
Before leaving, he only asked for the address of the omega from earlier.
Max, regaining her composure, hesitated. “That… doesn’t seem related to my husband’s case. He’s just a local client.”
“Oh.” Ethan casually sketched a route on paper before lifting his gaze–directly toward where I hid. I quickly ducked out of sight.
His voice reached me, cold and steady. “He said something he shouldn’t have. I’ll deal with
him.”
Was it because of what that omega called me earlier? Was he already there?
