Chapter 46
Kai brought good news: Steven was awake, and Ken was being interrogated.
Back in the Moon Valley hall with Ethan, I gasped when I saw Kai and Steven. They were bandaged up like mummies.
“How are you two feeling? I’m so sorry,” I said, guilt tightening in my chest. Omega wolves were known for healing slowly–unlike me. I had escaped serious injuries, thanks to Ethan, Kai, and the “cheat weapons” I carried.
Instead of staying at the hospital, I had followed Ethan in my battered state to the Nightwish Pack.
How long had it been since I left this place? Long enough that I couldn’t even remember.
On the way, a few pack members recognized me. Their surprised greetings caught me off guard. All I could manage was an awkward smile. I didn’t remember who they were, but now wasn’t the time to reminisce.
Ethan filled me in on what happened in the Fire Illusion Forest. Fifty–six rebel wolves had been captured, six were dead, and two vehicles were destroyed, along with countless rare plants.
Max had been called in to investigate. When we met her, she welcomed us warmly despite taking the day off to care for her child.
Her face went pale when she heard the wolves who had attacked us were active in the southwestern part of the forest.
Kai, ever skeptical, asked, “If Ken’s father really is their hidden Alpha, why would he let his pack act so recklessly? And how did he fool the Forest Administration?”
Max let out a bitter laugh. “My husband disappeared after taking a job for their family. Nothing they do surprises me anymore.”

Hearing this, Zoe called Nick for help and sped toward the scene in Max’s beat–up Volkswagen.
The car was now wrecked. Over the phone, Zoe yelled, “They better pay up! Perfect excuse
to get Max a new ride!”
I rolled my eyes. Compensation wasn’t the issue here.
What Max and her child needed wasn’t money. They needed her mate. They needed justice.
Her husband’s fate was still unknown. He might have died from the plague long ago. Meanwhile, Max had been forced to endure terrible hardships just to survive. The thought of it made my skin crawl.
“You, come with me,” Ethan interrupted suddenly, his tone oddly gentle and sweet.
Everyone exchanged confused glances, their eyes darting between us. My face heated instantly, and embarrassment washed over me.
“Where are we going?” I asked, frowning.
Ethan reached out and ruffled my messy hair in one smooth motion, his tone casual. “To change. There’s something in my wardrobe you can wear.”
I glanced down at my torn clothes and nodded quickly.
I hadn’t been self–conscious about my outfit until now, but the others‘ stares made me want
to run.
Ethan, clearly amused by my awkwardness, chuckled softly. I shot him a glare, and silent. Then he called an Omega to escort me to the office while his Beta pulled him away.

The Omega was a chatterbox, gushing about how tall, handsome, and kind Ethan was. She called him the perfect Alpha. I couldn’t help but laugh and shake my head. Was Ethan really that amazing?
Maybe. A little.

I eventually chose a sporty outfit—a light blue skirt that showed off my toned, sun–kissed skin. Paired with my slightly wavy hair, it gave me a cheerleader vibe, even though my school days were long behind me.
I looked at my reflection in the office mirror and stuck out my tongue, feeling shy. Why did Ethan even have clothes like this in his office? Had he brought other Omegas here before?
“Claire? Is that you?”
A passing Beta stopped in their tracks and blinked at me, their voice filled with disbelief.
