Chapter 6
Chapter 6
When the werewolf virus was spreading, I’d wanted to help develop a vaccine. I’d hoped to contribute to something that could save lives, but he’d insisted on stopping me, claiming it was for my safety and that it made him feel inadequate.
Back then, he’d spoken about our future, and I’d fallen for it, quitting my position as a doctor, believing he had my best interests at heart.
He seemed to realize he’d pushed too far and coughed awkwardly before trying to change the topic. “I had something else to ask you…. but we got sidetracked.”
I stared at him, saying nothing.
“Tomorrow night there’s a werewolf banquet with all the pack Alphas. Will you come? I picked out a dress for you. They’re all looking forward to meeting you… my Luna.”
The forced warmth in his voice grated on me. Did he think a fancy dress and a public appearance would change anything?
“I’m not going,” I said decisively. “I have an experiment tomorrow.”
Ethan looked at me in disbelief. “Claire, haven’t you always wanted to be my Luna? We’ll petition the Moon Goddess to restore bond. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to everyone. Why won’t you come?”
our mat
“I’m really busy,” I replied bluntly. “And do you really think the Moon Goddess has nothing better to do than revolve around us.
My words were sharp and cold, and Ethan’s face darkened with frustration. He glared at me for a long moment before finally turning on his heel and storming out of the room. As the door clicked shut behind him, I let out a sigh, feeling the weight of the night settle heavily: on my shoulders. The empty silence that followed was a bitter reminder of just how far apart we’d drifted.
I’d once desperately hoped he’d acknowledge me as his Luna, but he always found excuses
to avoid it.

Everyone in the Nightwith park knew Vanessa. Once, while rushing to find him, I overheard a group teasing him about her, fondly calling her “Luna, oh beautiful Luna.”
Vanessa blushed, standing by his side, the two of them looking so well matched, as if handpicked by the Moon Goddess herself. Ethan merely smiled, without denying anything.
That day, I didn’t even know how I managed to leave our room. When I confronted him. later, he brushed it off, saying it was just a joke and that I was overreacting. He even
uggested I video call Vanessa to prove it.
During the call, Vanessa laughed at me, using her usual line, “If I’d wanted to be with Ethan, it would have happened long ago.
At that time, I doubted myself, believing I could never compare to her, that perhaps Ethan had never truly seen me. But after that accident, recalling those moments, I realized just how shameless they both were–and how foolish I had been.
They had cloaked their behavior in “friendship,” blurring boundaries, expecting me to play the understanding partner. It was absurd.
The next day, Ethan called, asking again if I’d join him at the event. When I refused, his mask slipped. “Claire, do whatever you want. I’m offering you a public chance. If you’re ungrateful, don’t come crying to me later.”
After listening to his agitated tone, I simply hung up.
In the past, his words would have made me feel a rush of excitement, keeping me awake all night. Now, my thoughts were focused on recovery and preparing to work with Mark on a project that would benefit rogue wolves.
To dedicate myself to the project, I took all my things and moved into the dorms at the research facility.
On I
On my way to the dorms, I got an unexpected call from Vanessa.
