Secret Admiration: Finding True Love After…
Chapter 744 He Messed Up
John snapped, “Why do you think the child is Dalton’s?”
Chandler said, “That day, the nurse ran a blood test right in front of me. Neither Meryl nor I have B–type blood.”
John suddenly let out a laugh. He thought, “So that’s why.”

Chandler frowned, a strange feeling creeping over him. “What’s so funny?” he asked.
John leaned against the wall, his eyes filled with cold mockery. “You keep saying you love Meryl, yet you couldn’t even give her the most basic trust.
“If you suspected she had something going on with Dalton, why did you stay with her in the first place? You doubted her, yet when she left with the child, shouldn’t you have felt relieved? Wasn’t that exactly what you wanted?”
Chandler’s brows knitted tightly. No matter what had happened, he had never once thought about leaving Meryl. Even if the child was Dalton’s, all he wanted was an explanation.
But now, from John’s words, he sensed something else. He wondered, “Is there more to this than I’ve assumed?”
“You know something, don’t you? Tell me.” Chandler grabbed John’s shoulder, his grip tightening as his eyes burned red with

John remained expressionless and thought, “So, Chandler really doesn’t know the truth that Lydia has secretly switched the baby at birth. That explains why he has been so distant toward the child. After all, what man can accept the idea of raising another man’s child, believing he has been betrayed?
“Well, since you want to know, I’ll tell you,” John said, locking, eyes with Chandler. “The child isn’t Dalton’s. The reason the blood test didn’t match wasn’t because Meryl cheated–it’s because Lydia switched your biological son at birth. But Meryl found out and secretly switched him back.”
Chandler’s eyes widened in shock. “What… What did you just say?”
John sneered, “You heard me. While you were busy playing the perfect caretaker to Rachel, your own son was stolen by Lydia. If it weren’t for Meryl’s quick thinking, you’d be raising someone else’s child right now.
“And your real son? He was in Lydia’s hands. Who knows what she would have done to him? Mr. Aniston, such a huge thing happened, yet Meryl bore it all alone, handling it all on her own And what were you doing? You didn’t even have a clue.
“You think you’re so capable, huh? Yet you couldn’t even protect your own wife and child?”
John’s words hit Chandler like a hammer to the chest. He thought, “What have I been doing?”
Chapter 744 He Messed Up
Meryl had done nothing wrong, yet he had let himself be blinded, doubting her loyalty. Now that he knew the truth, he finally realized just how badly he had messed up.

As a husband, he had completely failed to protect his wife and child. And Meryl had left because she was disappointed in him. No wonder she walked away. His cold indifference toward the child must have made Meryl think he didn’t love her anymore.
A crushing sense of regret surged through Chandler. He thought, “How could I have made such a stupid mistake? How could I have hurt the person I love most?”
His eyes reddened as he dropped to one knee, completely drained, his vision blurring with unshed tears. He thought bitterly, “No wonder Meryl has left so decisively, without even saying goodbye. She has lost all hope in me.”
John watched Chandler’s dazed, broken state. Chandler had always been a golden boy–always the one others bowed to, When had he ever looked this defeated? But John didn’t say anything else. He turned and walked away.
A while later, Walter approached and helped Chandler to hist feet. “Mr. Aniston.”
John had been gone for over ten minutes. Walter had been waiting at the alley entrance, expecting Chandler to come out quickly. But after ten whole minutes, he was still standing there, motionless.

Chandler looked utterly lost, his gaze unfocused. His face was full of sorrow, his entire body cloaked in darkness,
Walter had never seen him like this before. Still, at least this trip hadn’t been for nothing. Now, they knew where the real problem lay.
Chandler got into the car. He sat in the backseat, his face dark, silent. Walter glanced at him through the rearview mirror, hesitating to speak. The air in the car was suffocatingly heavy,
Chandler felt like a weight was crushing his chest, making it hard to breathe. He replayed everything he had done over the past few months, realizing just how terribly he had acted.
A bitter smile showed on his face. He really had been a complete fool. No wonder Meryl left. Because he thought the child wasn’t his, he had neglected her.
Outside, streetlights cast shifting patterns of light and shadow across his face. He leaned his head against his hand, looking so utterly fragile. He had to find Meryl. He had to explain everything to her himself. “Did you check the flights leaving Kingsdom that day?”
Walter nodded. “Yes, we did.”
Kingsdom was a major hub, with flights connecting to all corners of the world. With so many departures every day, finding someone was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Especially since Felix had changed Meryl’s identity. But tracking

down a newborn was easier. Very few people traveled with such young infants.
“That day, only two babies under six months old boarded a flight,” Walter reported. “One went to Griffore, the other to Austranion.”
Chandler’s eyes snapped open. He thought, “Griffore? That is where we have fallen in love. Has she gone there?”

After two grueling days of travel, Meryl had finally made it to Caldonia from Austranion.
Maybe it was the unfamiliar climate, but she had barely arrived when she came down with a fever. Dizzy and weak, she lay in bed, barely able to keep her eyes open. Half–asleep, she murmured, “Chandler… I want some water.”
The moment the words left her lips, she opened her eyes and froze. The unfamiliar surroundings hit her all at once. She wasn’t home anymore.
A strange, hollow feeling welled up inside her. Lowering her gaze, Meryl swallowed hard. Being alone in a foreign country, with no one to rely on, was lonelier than she had imagined. She knew no one here.
Turning to her son, Meryl saw him sleeping soundly, his tiny face peaceful. The sight grounded her. She rubbed her aching head and forced herself to sit up, pulling on a coat. She had to

eat something. She needed to get better–for her child’s sake.

The house was a small, two–story rental with a lush garden outside. Heading to the kitchen, she opened the fridge only to find it completely empty. There was not even an egg. She sighed.
Of course, she had been too out of it to buy groceries. Life here wasn’t as convenient as back home–going to the store meant a long walk or driving. And in her current state, taking a newborn out wasn’t exactly an option.
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing Anne’s name on the screen, Meryl picked up immediately.
Anne said, “Sweetheart, are you there yet? How does it feel to finally be free?”
Hearing the familiar voice, Meryl’s nose stung. Tears welled up before she could stop them. Hearing her sniffle, Anne panicked. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
It wasn’t that things weren’t going well. It was just that traveling across the world with a newborn wasn’t as easy as Meryl had thought. There was so much to handle, so much to figure out. Money, time, energy–it all drained so quickly.
Meryl thought, “I have to grow stronger, faster. I have to take care of my son.”
