Chapter 745 It’s Not a Misunderstanding
Meryl had never lived abroad before. Everything around her now was completely unfamiliar.
But she wasn’t the type to complain. She didn’t want Anne to worry about her from Havenbrook. Besides, Anne had just arrived in Havenbrook herself–she was probably still adjusting and had her own things to deal with.
Thinking of this, Meryl lowered her voice and said, “Nothing much. Everything’s going pretty well.”
She had run into Casey on the plane, and honestly, he had helped her quite a bit along the way. But he was still performing in Austranion, and she hadn’t had the chance to properly thank him over a meal.
Meryl asked, “What about you? How’s Havenbrook?”
By now, Anne had been there for over two weeks. She should have settled in.
At the mention of this, Anne frowned. “Unbelievable–Dante actually came all the way to Havenbrook to find me.”
Meryl paused. “Wait, what?”

The two of them had shown up at her workplace out of nowhere. At the time, Anne had just walked out of the office building with her colleagues.
She worked as a dance instructor for trainees at an
entertainment company. Coincidentally, she had been chatting with two young male trainees when Dante appeared, holding Bella in his arms, staring at her with a look so mournful you’d think she had abandoned her child just to run off and have fun.
God knew she had come to Havenbrook for work! But now, not only did everyone know she was divorced, they also knew she had a daughter. It wasn’t like she was trying to hide it.
Still, thanks to Dante’s dramatic entrance, the whole company was buzzing with gossip. Some people even said she was a heartless mother who had abandoned her husband and child.
Anne sighed, “I told him to go back, but not only did he refuse, he actually bought a house in Havenbrook. Says he’s staying here with Bella until I come to my senses.
“Tell me, isn’t he just making my life harder? He left an entire company behind in Kingsdom just to move here. If something happens to the business, guess who’s going to get blamed for leading him astray?”
Meryl pressed her lips together. To be honest, she hadn’t expected Dante to actually chase Anne all the way to

But it also showed how much he feared losing Anne for good- that she might start a new relationship here and cut ties with him completely.
Meryl said softly, “At least he’s serious about you. Look, it’s been a long time since that whole mess happened. Dante didn’t do anything unforgivable, and Lola is already in prison, paying for what she did.
“He followed you all the way here, which means he still loves you. Maybe you should think about it.”
On the other end of the call, Anne fell silent. With the time difference, it was nighttime for Meryl but still daytime for Anne.
Not wanting to let Dante’s sudden appearance affect her work, Anne hung up, did a quick touch–up in the mirror, and headed
out.
She was renting a place in Havenbrook. In this ridiculously expensive city, even a tiny apartment cost fifty grand a month. She had been used to living in big houses, so at first, the small space had felt cramped. But after a few days, she was getting used to it. It had its own kind of charm.
When she arrived at the company and stepped into the elevator, Max was already inside. “Had breakfast?” he asked casually.
There were others in the elevator too, and the way Max spoke to her–so familiar, so natural–made Anne instantly aware of the

With all the gossip going around thanks to Dante’s sudden appearance, most people would probably want to keep their distance from her to avoid getting caught up in the drama.

But Max had spoken to her first. She couldn’t just ignore him. So, she braced herself and said, “Yeah, I ate.”
Max frowned slightly, giving her a once–over before quickly looking away without another word.
When the elevator doors opened, everyone poured out, including Anne. She went straight to the dance studio to change into her practice clothes.
But before she could, her phone rang. It was Max. “Come to my office.”
Anne frowned, unsure why he wanted to see her. But he was the boss, after all. She couldn’t just ignore him. So, she headed straight for his office.
His assistant saw her and immediately opened the door. “Ms. Blanchett, please.”
Anne had assumed Max was calling her in for work–related matters. The company was launching a seven–member boy group later this year. Five members were confirmed, but two spots were still undecided. She figured he might want her input.
But as soon as she walked in, Max pointed to a steaming bowl of

Anne froze and thought, “He called me here just to feed me?”
She stared at Max for a few seconds. He had asked if she’d eaten, and she had told him she had. She thought, “How did he know I was lying?”
Anne, not overthinking it, sat down on the couch. “Thanks.”
“Any problems at work?” Max asked, sitting across from her.
Anne assumed this was just a routine check–in. She shook her head lightly. “No, the company’s policies and benefits are great.”
Max stretched out his legs, then casually asked, “What about outside of work?”
Anne’s hand, holding the spoon, paused mid–air. She guessed he had heard the office gossip. “Sorry, Mr. Blunt. I’ll handle my personal matters as soon as possible. It won’t affect work.”
Max frowned. “You’ve got it wrong. That’s not what I meant.”
Anne looked up, confused. “Then what do you mean?”
Max curled his fingers slightly, recalling what a friend had told him, “If you don’t spell it out, she’ll never get it. She’s too busy to play guessing games. Who has the time to figure out what you mean?”

Max thought that made a lot of sense. After a brief pause, said, “I meant–do you need help?”
Anne blinked at him, still puzzled.
Max continued, “Let’s grab dinner after work. My treat. We can talk more then.”
Anne frowned. “Wouldn’t that make people think there’s something going on between us?” Dante already suspected she was out here having the time of her life. And she and Max were around the same age.
But Max suddenly met her eyes, his gaze steady and serious. Then, in a low voice, he said, “It’s not a misunderstanding.”
