Secret Admiration: Finding True Love After… 1/5
Chapter 746 A Proper Ex
Max’s eyes were striking–slightly upturned at the corners, giving them a distinct shape. His features were sharp and well–defined. Even in an industry packed with handsome men, he stood out effortlessly.
Anne glanced at him, slightly surprised, her eyes filled with
confusion.
Max lowered his gaze, but the emotions in his deep eyes were impossible to hide. “This isn’t a misunderstanding. I do want to
pursue you.”
Anne froze and thought, “The Max I know is quiet and reserved
–is this a confession?”
She stared at him in disbelief. “But I’m divorced. I even have a
child. We…”
Max cut her off, “You’re single, and so am I. There’s nothing wrong with this, Anne. So why not give it a chance?” His voice was deep and husky as he called her name. The way Max said Anne sent a shiver down her spine.
She lightly patted her cheeks, trying to regain her composure. Then, she suddenly thought about the porridge she had just eaten. She thought, “It’s my favorite dish. How does Max know?”

She looked up at him, suspicion creeping into her voice. “Max, have you liked me for a while now?”
Max nodded. “Yes.”
Anne’s heartbeat quickened. Her fingers, resting on her lap. curled slightly. So, Meryl was right. Max’s sudden reappearance in her life wasn’t a coincidence.
Max continued, “To be precise, I’ve liked you since our school days.” He locked eyes with her. “But then, my family moved to Havenbrook.”
And so, before he ever had a chance to say anything, his feelings were buried. Besides, back then, Anne only had eyes for Dante. But things were different now. Dante was out of the picture. Their marriage was over. Which meant Max finally had his chance.
What Anne didn’t know was that the recent class reunion had been orchestrated by Max. The moment he found out about her divorce, he started making plans.
He didn’t want to show up in her life out of nowhere and risk her not remembering him. So, before they met again, he had played out countless scenarios in his mind.
He worried she wouldn’t recognize him. He feared that if he approached her first, she’d ask, “Who are you?” To avoid that, he reached out to Laird and arranged the reunion.
At least in that setting, if Anne really had forgotten him, it

wouldn’t be too awkward. Luckily, she hadn’t. Their reunion had gone as planned.
But Anne had no idea about any of this. Nor did she know how much effort Max had put in just to get to this moment–where she was sitting on the couch in his office.
He had even started shifting his business focus to Kingsdom. If Anne wouldn’t come to him, he would go to her. But none of that mattered now. Because Anne was here.
At first, Anne had assumed Max had called her to his office for work. Then, she thought he just wanted to have breakfast with her. It wasn’t until now that she finally realized—he had brought her here to confess.
The office fell into silence. Anne hesitated and thought, “He has put himself out there—shouldn’t I say something? After all, Max is my boss now. We work together. We see each other every day. And honestly, I am enjoying my job here.”
But before she could say anything, there was a knock at the door. “Mr. Blunt.”
Max frowned. He had made it clear that he wasn’t to be disturbed. His assistant wouldn’t interrupt unless it was something urgent.
His assistant said, “There’s a commotion downstairs. Someone’s making a grand gesture with flowers.”
Since this was an entertainment company, paparazzi were

always lurking nearby. If this wasn’t handled quickly, i would end up in the tabloids. And worse, people might start speculating that one of their trainees was secretly dating,
someone.

Max’s expression darkened. “Who is it?”
The assistant hesitated before answering, “It’s Ms. Blanchett’s ex–husband.”
Anne stiffened and thought, “What the hell is Dante up to now?”
The next second, her phone rang. The sound was loud enough that Max, sitting nearby, heard everything. “Anne, come downstairs. If you don’t, I’m not leaving.”
Anne frowned and thought, “He is actually making a public declaration of love at my workplace? Can he be any more cliché? And if he wants to win me back, why the hell will he do it here? Does he want to make my work life difficult?”
At this point, she had completely forgotten about Max’s confession. She got up and said a quick goodbye before rushing downstairs.
Max immediately followed. “I’m coming with you.”
Outside, Dante was standing there, holding a bouquet. When he saw Anne and Max walking out together, his eyes narrowed slightly. Anne glanced around. Paparazzi were already snapping photos.

Daute exarded the bouquet toward her, reaching for her hand. “Anne, come home with me.”
Aque took the flowers—then, without hesitation, tossed them juto a nearby trash can. “Dante, the more you pull stunts like shús, the more I despise you.”
Then she waved over the company’s janitor. “Please clean up thús mess.” She pulled a few bills from her purse–one thousand dollars in total. “For the trouble,” she added.
To Anne, Dante’s so–called romantic gesture was nothing more than garbage. Donte’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected this reaction. He started to step forward.
But Max blocked his path. This was his company. He had every right to decide who could and couldn’t come inside. Max’s voice was cold. “Stay away from her.”
The two men locked eyes, the tension crackling between them. Then Max smirked slightly, “Mr. Paltrow, you’re her past. We’re adults here—I don’t think I need to teach you how to be a proper ez, do 12”
