Chapter 747 Inviting Me Up
Max didn’t say another word. He just turned and walked straight into the company building.
Dante started to follow but was immediately blocked by Max’s bodyguards.
They formed a solid wall in front of him. Before leaving, Max had given clear instructions—Dante’s actions had already disrupted the company’s normal operations, and he didn’t want to see him anywhere near the premises again.
Back in Kingsdom, Dante was someone important. Wherever he went, people showed him respect. But in Havenbrook? That didn’t count for much.
The head of security stepped forward and warned him, “Mr. Paltrow, if you keep this up, we’ll have to call the police.”
The legal systems in Havenbrook and Kingsdom were
completely different. Dante clenched his jaw, unwilling to back down, but he had no choice.
His plan had been to stir up trouble, to make things so difficult for Anne at work that she’d have no choice but to leave. Once
that happened, she’d have no reason to stay in Havenbrook— and naturally, she’d come back with him.
As long as she returned to Kingsdom, he’d no longer be at a

disadvantage. But clearly, that wasn’t going to work. If anything, it had only made Anne resent him more.
Months ago, Max had already declared war on him. At the time, Dante hadn’t taken him seriously. But now maybe he’d underestimated him all along.
The company trainees were practically nocturnal. Their reversed schedule meant that Anne’s work hours were pushed
back as well.
By 7:30 p.m., the last dance class of the day ended. Anne headed to the locker room, changed back into her own clothes, and prepared to grab something to eat.
Just as she stepped out, she saw Max standing right outside. She blinked, surprised. “Mr. Blunt? What are you doing here?”
Max’s deep, magnetic voice carried a hint of amusement. “Waiting for you.” Then he smiled and asked, “Would this beautiful lady do me the honor of joining me for dinner?”
He stood in the hallway, his eyes fixed on her, a small smile playing on his face. When Max smiled, there was something in his eyes–something deep and unreadable, yet strangely captivating.
Anne was momentarily stunned. For a second, something about his look–something unspoken–seemed to hit her right in the heart.
At that moment, a few trainees were also leaving their classes,

heading out for the night. Anne quickly noticed that they were all sneaking glances at them, their eyes filled with curiosity and gossip.
Max, however, remained perfectly composed. He stood there in his tailored suit, effortlessly refined, exuding an air of calm confidence. The attention didn’t faze him in the slightest. Instead, he turned to the trainees and asked casually, “Have you all eaten? Want to join us?”
Blunt’s group was a massive company, but it had a stellar reputation in the industry. Max, while strict in business, was surprisingly easygoing in private. He also maintained a good relationship with the artists under his company.
The trainees were young, but they weren’t naive. They knew Max was just being polite. If they actually tagged along now, they’d be nothing more than third wheels. One after another, they waved their hands, declining. “No, no, Mr. Blunt, you and Ms. Blanchett should go
ahead.”
One particularly bold trainee seized the moment and chimed in, “Have a great night.” The group immediately burst into laughter.
Anne, on the other hand, felt her face heat up, the blush
spreading all the way to her ears. The more she tried to explain, the guiltier she looked.
Fortunately, the trainees didn’t linger. After throwing out that comment, they scattered like a flock of startled birds.

Anne thought back to what happened earlier today–Max saying he wanted to chase her. And now, here he was, asking her to
dinner.
It wasn’t until she was sitting across from him at the restaurant that she realized something. Max was a man of action. Which, honestly, was better than those who just talked big but never followed through.
As they ate, the conversation drifted to Dante. “Your ex–husband doesn’t seem ready to let you go,” Max remarked.
Anne was blunt. “He wants me to go back to Kingsdom.”
Max smirked, “Guess that’s my fault for bringing you to Havenbrook.”
Anne smiled but didn’t comment.
Max leaned forward slightly. “But I don’t regret it. If I had to choose again, I’d still do the same thing.”
Anne didn’t know how to respond to that. At least, not right
now.
Then, Max cut straight to the point. “Anne, the reason I brought you to Havenbrook was to date you.”
Anne had just taken a sip of juice when she heard that. And nearly choked. Her face turned bright red.
Max immediately grabbed a napkin and handed it to her. “That

coat I left behind the other day,” he continued, his gaze steady, “I did it on purpose.”
“I wanted to leave something behind,” he said simply. “Even if I had to leave, at least you’d have something that reminded you of
me.”
Anne had never had a man confess to her so directly before. And Max wasn’t even the type–he was usually calm, composed, and reserved. But right now, he was anything but.
Anne cleared her throat, feeling like she should say something.
But Max didn’t give her the chance. “Of course,” he added casually, “I also had a plan B. If you had chosen not to come to Havenbrook, I would’ve given it six months. Maybe a year, at most. And then, I would’ve come to Kingsdom myself.”
His business had already secured its place at the top in Havenbrook. There was no real reason to expand north. With cultural and regional differences, moving into Kingsdom’s market would come with its own set of challenges. But he was already preparing for it.
Anne hesitated for a moment before asking what had been on
her mind. “But I was married. I have a child. Doesn’t that bother
you?”
Max was an outstanding man. He could have any woman he wanted. Someone from a similar background. Someone who hadn’t been through what she had.

“Anne,” Max called her name, his voice steady. “Why are you selling yourself short? So what if you’ve been married? So what if you have a child? You’re still you.
“I like you for who you are. It has nothing to do with your past, your status, or whether you’re divorced. Besides, who says a woman who’s been through a divorce doesn’t deserve love? I work this hard because I want to make you the happiest woman in the world.”
His words were too sincere. They hit her straight in the heart. Back in her university days, she had been too caught up in Dante to notice anything else. She had never realized Max had felt this way about her.
The rest of dinner passed in a haze of mixed emotions. After the meal, Max drove her home.
When they arrived at her apartment complex, Max didn’t push for anything. Winning over a woman’s heart wasn’t easy. Especially when she’d been hurt before.
“See you at the office tomorrow,” he said.
Anne reached for the car door handle, ready to get out when she caught something in the corner of her eye. At the end of the street, standing under the dim glow of a streetlamp was Dante.
His eyes were bloodshot. Judging by how long he had been standing there, he must have been waiting for a while.
It was almost 11 PM. And from the look on his face, it was clear.

Dante hadn’t expected Anne to be out so late, let alone on a date with Max.
Dante wasn’t allowed to enter the company’s premises, not with the security guards watching him like hawks. So he had come here instead. Now, seeing Max drop her off, his entire presence seemed to freeze over with cold hostility.
Inside the car, Max had also noticed him. His gaze darkened. Then, without warning, he reached out and took Anne’s hand.
Startled, Anne looked up at him in confusion. Max’s voice was calm, almost teasing. “Anne,” he said, “would you mind inviting
me up?”
She blinked. “What?” She didn’t expect him to ask this.
Max gave her a perfectly reasonable excuse. “To get my coat.”
