Chapter 748 She’s My Girlfriend
Max had to grab his clothes from Anne’s place, and she couldn’t really turn him down. Not far away, Dante watched them both, his eyes burning with jealousy.
Anne thought to herself that she was going to leave Dante
anyway.
If he misunderstood the situation, so be it—she no longer cared.
He had caused her so much pain in the past. What he was feeling now wasn’t even a fraction of what she had endured.
Anne smiled at Max. “Sure, come on up.”
As Anne entered the apartment building, Max followed.
Dante started to approach them, Max suddenly stopped and fixed him with an intense stare.
Anne was holding the elevator door, waiting for Max.
Max, standing a good 30 feet away, glanced at Dante. “Mr. Paltrow, I’m with my girlfriend. Could you give us a little privacy?
“Girlfriend?” Dante scoffed in disbelief. “You’ve gotten together so quickly? She’s my wife.”

“She’s the mother of my daughter. That will never change!” Dante snapped,

“You’re right, that won’t change–nor would I want it to. But as far as Anne is concerned, you’re not even an ex anymore. You’re ancient history,” Max replied.
Dante’s face darkened. It was true–Anne had been with Yancey
after him. He wasn’t even her most recent ex.
“You’ve been digging into her, haven’t you?” Dante shot at him.
“Nah, I just pay attention,” Max shrugged, turning to walk away. The thought of their date at this hour drove Dante into a rage. He lunged forward and struck Max across the face.
It caught him off guard and wounded the corner of his lips.
Anne rushed out of the elevator. “Are you okay?” she asked Max worriedly before glaring at Dante.
“Have you lost your mind? If you have a problem with me, deal with me. Leave innocent people out of this!”
“I’m fine,” Max said, wiping the blood from his lip casually as if the incident meant nothing to him. “We go.”
Anne nodded.
Dante stood there while his eyes were blazing. He was convinced
Anne still had feelings for him, even if she wouldn’t admit it.
He started to follow them but was stopped by the closing entrance door.
He could only watch helplessly as they entered the elevator together, his brow furrowed in frustration.

In the elevator, Anne noticed Max’s injury and winced, “Ouch, that looks bad. I’ve got a first aid kit upstairs–let me take care of that for you.”
Against Max’s fair complexion, even the small cut at the corner of his mouth stood out starkly.
He remained quiet as they entered her apartment, where Anne tending to his injury.
Suddenly, Max moved closer and slipped an arm around her
waist.
His throat moved as he swallowed. “Anne, he keeps bothering you because he thinks you’re alone. Stay with me, and I’ll make sure that changes. Stay with me, and I will protect you.”
Anne had come to Havenbrook solely for her career. She never expected that one dinner with Max would lead to this.
Yet she found herself unable to resist his feelings. After all, beyond being old classmates, he was her superior at work, they would meet every day.

Meeting his gaze, she asked, “Are you suggesting an office romance? Isn’t that against company policy?”
It wasn’t a random question. Many major corporations had strict rules against workplace relationships, concerned about their impact on professional dynamics.

Max smiled. “I’m the boss. Dating me doesn’t count as an office
romance.”
“How do you figure that?” Anne asked.
“If I’m lucky enough to marry you someday, you’ll be the boss‘ wife. Who would dare question that?” He paused before adding softly, “Besides, I’d listen to you anyway.”
Anne felt her resolve melting.
This feeling was new and wonderful. She had spent years loving Dante with little reciprocation, maintaining their marriage. mostly through her own determination. Only after losing her had he finally recognized her worth.
But now here was Max, who was typically reserved, becoming passionate because of her. She couldn’t help but be moved by the change in him.
She wasn’t sure who started their first kiss, but as his lips met hers, her heart began racing wildly.
Her face flushed hot as a small sound escaped her throat.
Lost in the moment, she was surprised by Max’s sudden intensity.

Sweat trickled down her forehead. When she made a soft sound, Max pulled back, his eyes filled with concern. “Did I hurt you?”
“No,” she whispered, pulling the blanket closer.
It was their first time together, and Max’s hesitation was obvious. “What was that?” he asked quietly, unsure.
Anne’s whole body was on edge, the wine starting to hit her. The memory of his touch made her face flush deeper. “Don’t stop,” she murmured, voice barely audible.
She lay face down, fingers clutching the pillow as she felt his response grow stronger.
The experience left her dizzy. Men were so….. natural at this.
But then the regret crept in. She felt his touch like it was the first time. His hands were gentle, but the way he moved–everything about him felt urgent. She didn’t want it to stop.
She tried to maintain control, she gasped as he kissed her neck, his hands moving lower, his touch sending sparks through her body. She couldn’t focus, couldn’t think–only feel.
Afterward, she had no sense of time–only that they were both completely spent.
Meanwhile, Dante spent the entire night outside, sitting on the

The moon tracked across the sky until dawn bean breaking, but still, Max didn’t emerge.
As he finished the last of his drink, Dante punched the wall in frustration, splitting the skin across his knuckles.
He smashed the empty bottle and made a phone call
On the other hand, Chandler wasn’t in a good situation either. He had just landed from Griffore when he received Dante’s call.
He’d personally searched the city, checking every possible location, but found no trace of Meryl.
That left only one possibility… She must have gone to Austranion.
