Dante remained silent, casting a glance at Chandler instead.
Chandler frowned, confused. “What are you looking at me for? I didn’t hit her.”
Dante replied, “It’s Rachel.”
The corridor fell silent instantly, with no one speaking for a long
moment.
Meryl clenched her fists, fighting to keep her emotions in check.
It was actually Rachel who had hit Anne!
Why would she do that?
Turning to Chandler, Meryl tightened her grip, eager to see how he would react to this revelation.
His response could very well influence her decision about their marriage.

Meanwhile, Meryl sat on a chair outside the operating room, waiting silently.
For the first time, time seemed to crawl by, stretching every second into a painful eternity.
Chandler and Dante were in the stairwell, engaged in a hushed
conversation.
Meryl kept checking the time, anxiety gnawing at her.
Over an hour had passed since Anne was wheeled in for her cesarean section, and she should have been out by now.
Meryl’s mind raced with worry; what if something was wrong?
Complicated surgeries often took longer than expected.
Just as her anxiety peaked, the operating room door swung open, and Meryl rushed forward.
Yancey stepped out, his eyes red and puffy as if he had been crying. His face was pale, and Meryl’s heart sank.
