Dante’s heart raced as he held Anne tightly in his arms.

His hands gripped her waist, and he bit her lip, eyes closed, lost in a moment of satisfaction.
After three years of marriage, he knew Anne’s sensitivities all too well, his fingers teasingly exploring her body.
But all Anne felt was a deep sense of despair.
“Dante, don’t push me to hate you!” She raised her hand and slapped his face hard.
The sharp crack echoed in the room, abruptly ending the charged atmosphere.
“Even after the divorce, you still want me? Are you that desperate? Do you need me to find you a few women? If you refuse to give Bella back to me, let’s take this to court!”
Tears filled Anne’s eyes, her gaze fiery. “Every time you touch me, it makes me sick!”
With that, she turned and yanked the door open, leaving without a backward glance.
Dante stood frozen, watching her retreating figure with a heavy heart.

A wry smile crept across Dante’s face as he felt a wave of sorrow wash over him.
Outside, Meryl rushed to Anne as she emerged, her eyes red and puffy.
“What happened? Did you see the kid?”
Anne shook her head, biting her lip, unable to speak.
Meryl understood the weight of judgmental glances all too well.
She gently wrapped her arms around Anne’s shoulders. “Come on, let’s get some fresh air.”
Yancey was still pacing anxiously outside the Paltrow Manor, clearly agitated, when he spotted Anne, her eyes swollen from crying.
Anne, feeling wronged, said, “I just wanted to see my daughter. He’s gone too far, forcing me to break up with you!”
Yancey was taken aback.
He hadn’t realized that Anne’s inability to see her child was somehow linked to him.

He mused. “At the end of the day, it’s my fault.”
“I couldn’t protect the woman I love, and now she’s suffering because of me.”
His fists clenched tightly, veins bulging on the hacks of his hands, as he stared pensively toward the Paltrow Manor.
Anne’s emotions were all over the place, so Meryl helped her into the car to calm down.
Yancey made an excuse to buy bottled water and left, heading straight for the Paltrow Manor.

When Yancey saw Dante, he charged at him, grabbing his shirt collar.
Without hesitation, he threw a punch, landing it squarely on Dante’s face.
“Why do you have to make her cry? Is this your idea of love? Letting a woman weep because of you? Dante, what kind of man are you?”
Dante hadn’t expected the sudden blow. Once he regained his composure, he raised his hand and hit Yancey back.
“Invading my home and throwing punches? You’re just a kept man living off Anne’s money.”
“What gives you the right to talk about love? Without her, you’d be nothing. If she weren’t a wealthy woman, do you really think

Yancey stood his ground. “I would! I love her for who she is, not her money! Even if she were broke, I’d still love her!”
Dante’s eyes glinted with mockery.
“If it weren’t for Anne clearing your family’s debts, you wouldn’t even know where to find yourself right now.”
“Love? Everything you have is built on her wealth. Are you in love with her, or are you just in love with her money? You probably can’t even tell the difference.”
“Yancey, I’ve never touched you because you’re not worth my time. To put it bluntly, I don’t even see you as a real man.”
Dante’s words were a brutal assault on Yancey’s dignity and self-worth.
Yancey’s chest heaved with anger, his emotions boiling over.
He shot back. “You look down on me just because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. You have everything handed to you on a platter without lifting a finger.”
“Your so–called superiority comes from your starting point— something that others might spend their whole lives trying to reach. Let’s face it: you just hit the jackpot in life.”
“Dante, your arrogance is your downfall. It’s precisely that arrogance that’s cost you Anne.”

“In love, everyone is equal. Anne divorced you because she lost faith in you; she doesn’t want you anymore.”
“You refuse to admit that you’ve lost to me. So tell me, do you truly love Anne? Or are you just a privileged man who can’t stand the thought of losing to someone you look down upon, begging her to come back to you using these despicable tactics?”
Dante was taken aback. Dante had expected Yancey to be quiet and submissive, but here he was, sharp–tongued and articulate, each word hitting Dante like a dagger.
The tension between them was palpable, both men refusing to back down.
Just as it seemed they might come to blows again, Chandler appeared out of nowhere.
He stepped in front of the restless Dante. “Yancey, you should head home.”
Dante bristled. “Chandler, you’re my
friend!”
Chandler said, “Meryl sees him as a brother, and for that reason
alone, I can’t let you lay a finger on him.”
Yancey wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and
nodded at Chandler, turning to leave.
Dante’s expression darkened.

“Chandler, if I can’t win Anne back, you’ll bear a huge part of the blame! I’ll just move in with you and Meryl and be your third wheel!”
Chandler narrowed his eyes. “Don’t pin this mess on me. You’re the one who messed up your marriage. Is this really how you go after a woman? Kidnap her child and keep mother and daughter apart? Have you lost your mind?”
“What’s Yancey done? He’s been there for Anne, caring for her, spending time with her, making sure she’s fed and taken care of. And you? If you were a woman, who would you choose?”
Frustrated, Dante slammed his fist into the wall.
“I’ve never chased a woman before! How was I supposed to know that would only push her further away?”
In a foul mood, Dante dragged Chandler along for a drink.
Halfway through, Rachel walked in.
“Chandler, I don’t know anyone outside. Can I hang out with you guys?”
A servant entered with a tray of drinks, and Rachel quickly grabbed a decanter, pouring some into Chandler’s glass.
Chandler chatted idly with Dante, but Rachel noticed that he wasn’t picking up his drink and felt a twinge of urgency.

Rachel curled her fingers slightly and said in her soft voice, “Dante, you’ve had enough. It’s not good for your liver.”
“Who says? I can handle my drink…”
Before he could finish, he suddenly collapsed.
Chandler frowned and motioned for someone to help Dante to a place to rest.
Meanwhile, Rachel’s gaze remained fixed on the untouched glass.
She knew she had to play it cool; if she pushed too hard, her intentions would be too obvious.
As Chandler prepared to leave, an idea struck Rachel.
“Chandler, it seems such a waste to let your drink go to waste. Let me help you finish it.”
With that, she lifted the glass to her lips, ready to take a sip.
Chandler’s expression darkened as he snatched the glass from her hand. “You’ve got your own drink!”
Without missing a beat, he downed the contents in one go.
