Chapter 732 So Be It
Giving birth had not been a pleasant one for Meryl. In fact, it had left her with lingering trauma.
Some memories take time to heal, and this was one of them.
When Meryl said she didn’t want to have another child, Chandler felt a sharp pang of discomfort.
She had been willing to bear Dalton’s child, but now she didn’t
want one with him.
The thought weighed heavily on his heart.
He took a moment to reflect. Perhaps Meryl was still upset with
him.
His original intention in marrying her had been to keep the woman he loved close, to cherish and protect her.
But now, his absence during her time of greatest need had strained their relationship to the point where she no longer wanted to have his child.
Chandler sighed and said, “Alright, if you don’t want to have a child right now, we won’t rush into it.”
He pulled Meryl close, pressing her against his chest in a tight embrace.
“I still have some work to finish. Stay with me while I take care of it.”
He opened his laptop and gestured for Meryl to sit on the sofa.
Exhausted from the stress of finally having her son back, Meryl felt her energy drain away.
She curled up on the sofa, her eyelids growing heavier by the minute.
Before long, Meryl’s phone on the table buzzed with a new
message.
Chandler glanced over and saw that Meryl had fallen asleep. He gently covered her with a blanket.
As he did, his eyes flicked to her phone screen.
It was a message from Anne: [Not bad. You’re planning to leave…]
The rest of the message was cut off.
Chandler had a sinking feeling in his chest. He looked down at Meryl’s peaceful sleeping face, his expression clouded with
unease.
Lightly brushing his fingers over her brow, he whispered, “Meryl, what are you planning?”
When Meryl woke up, she was surprised to find that it was already morning.
Her first thought was of the baby.
The child was not in the room.
Her heart raced as she prepared to get up.
* “Awake?”
Chandler’s low, slightly hoarse voice came from behind her.
She turned her head, meeting his deep, intense gaze.
Meryl then noticed that Chandler’s hands were firmly fixed on her waist, and their bodies were closely pressed together.
The proximity made her acutely aware of the very part of his body against her.
Her cheeks flushed. She tried to shift away.
But Chandler held her tightly, and there was no way for her to
escape.
His chin rested on her neck, and when he opened his mouth to speak, a warm, humid heat swept over her.
“It’s still early; sleep a little longer.”
Meryl was ticklish, and her body shivered.
She asked, “Where’s the baby?”
“You were so tired last night,” Chandler said softly. “I had the nanny take him to the next room to sleep.”
Meryl pursed her lips, remembering.
She had dozed off on the sofa, only to be carried to bed at some point. She recalled feeling cold and then warmth as she ` instinctively moved closer to the heat source.
Then, she faintly heard someone whispering in her ear, “Little fool, what should I do with you?”
She had thought it was a dream, but now she realized it had been Chandler holding her all night.
After a long silence, Meryl spoke, “Chandler, let me go. I want to check on the baby.”
After all, Meryl had just swapped the child back and now needed to take a closer look at him.
Only when her child was by her side would she feel at ease.
Chandler’s eyes darkened. “Is the baby more important than me?”
Meryl wondered, “This guy… Why did he suddenly become
jealous of his own son?”
She turned to face him directly. “Don’t you like him?”
Now that she thought about it, Chandler had barely looked at the baby since they brought him home.
Even yesterday, he had been too busy with work to spare a moment for the child.
When he had come in, he had only glanced at the baby briefly.
Hearing Meryl’s question, Chandler narrowed his eyes.
He thought, “How can I say I like a child who isn’t even mine?”
Meryl waited for his response, but when none came, her doubts
grew.
Chandler quickly changed the subject. “What do you want for breakfast? I’ll make it for you. The baby isn’t more important than his mother. You come first in my heart.”
Meryl watched as he headed to the bathroom, her lips pressed together.
She thought, “How could a father not like his child?”
She shook off the thought, deciding she was overthinking it, and turned her attention to her phone.
She had gone to bed early the night before and missed several
Chapter 732 So Be It messages from Anne,
6/8
Meryl had asked how Anne was doing in Havenbrook, and Anne replied: [Not bad. You’re planning to leave Kingsdom too?]
Meryl held the phone and replied: [Yes, I will leave in the next two days.]
Just as she sent the message, Chandler emerged from the bathroom.
Seeing Meryl looking at her phone, he leaned over and asked, “Meryl, where are you going?”
The question caught Meryl off guard, and her heart raced.
She quickly locked her phone. She knew he had discovered her plans.
She wondered, “But how could he know? I had logged out of the email account where I received my acceptance letter.”
Chandler was perceptive, though. The slightest hint could give her away.
Meryl forced a smile, her hands clammy. “Why do you ask? Where would I be going?”
“Anne sent you a message last night,” Chandler said. “I only saw part of it. She said you were leaving. Where are you planning to go? If you’re feeling restless, I can have Walter book you a ticket. You can come with me on my business trip.”

Meryl shook her head quickly. “No, you must have
misunderstood. When I said ‘leaving,‘ I didn’t mean it the way you think. Besides, you’re going to the Englord. What would I do there?”
Chandler went to Englord to accompany Rachel, and Meryl had no intention of putting herself in that awkward situation.
It was painful enough knowing her husband was spending time with another woman.
She didn’t need to make it worse.
Once Chandler left, she would follow soon after.
They likely wouldn’t see each other again.
Chandler frowned, sensing something was off. “Meryl, do you not want me to go?”
He studied her face carefully, searching for clues.
Meryl smiled back at him, dispelling his doubts. “Are you leaving today? Is your luggage ready?”
“Yes, it’s all packed,” Chandler replied.
Meryl pressed her lips.
Chandler must have been looking forward to this trip, given how prepared he was.
