Chapter 23 We’re Not Compatible, Understand?

Nathaniel grew increasingly grim in the quiet space. His tongue pressed against his sharp canines, and his claws. emerged uncontrollably. “You never stop going on about leaving me and the Snowwolf Pack. The others who don’t know the story will just assume that the pack and I are treating you poorly.” 

Celica’s eyes reflected the cold and handsome face of the man, and she could sense a simmering anger in his eyes. Alright, she shouldn’t have hurt the pride of an Alpha without thinking it through. I didn’t say you mistreat me. It’s just that….we’re incompatible. Do you get me? We aren’t each other’s destined mate, so we shouldn’t waste our time anymore.” 

Some distances were like unbridgeable chasms, and she wondered how she could explain it to make him 

understand. 

No way could Celica believe that a mighty Alpha would pick an ordinary wolf like her as his mate. Event though she didn’t have a choice when she joined the Snowwolf Pack, she wouldn’t overestimate herself and think that she had become the Luna of the pack just because she was now a member of them. 

Nathaniel fell into deep thought because of her words. In a momentary lapse of attention, Celica slipped out of his embrace like a nimble cat. 

“Think it over carefully. I hope to receive an answer from you as soon as possible. In fact, I don’t want to be the Luna of Snowwolf Pack. On the contrary, I wish to have my freedom, Celica said and slipped away. 

By the time Nathaniel came to his senses, his arms were already empty. 

After Celica returned to school, she moved out of the campus hostel. The Silvermoon Pack had no place for her. While the staff were guaranteed a room, she might not even have one. Her only reliance in this whole city was her maternal grandmother. 

Her luggage was simple, filling just one suitcase. She walked out of the school gates and hailed a cab to head

In front of a small independent two–story villa, an elderly lady in a floral dress stood with a cane, craning her neck as she looked around. 

The green cab stopped in front of the house, and Celica paid the fare. She grabbed her suitcase and hurriedly got out of the cab. 

“Grandma!” Celica rushed into her grandmother Elizabeth’s arms like a child. “I missed you so much! Did you miss me too?” 

It had been a long time since she came back. She held her grandmother like she used to, feeling the warmth of family. 

“Of course, I missed my little Cece. Let’s go inside. I’ll cook you something delicious. Elizabeth smiled and walked arm–in–arm with her into the house. 

It had been a long time since her last visit, but the interior of the house remained unchanged. In the center of the living room, facing the front door, was a large marble table with a phonograph playing music on it. filling the room with the sound of a lady’s melodious voice. 

Every time Celica came back to her grandmother’s house, she felt exceptionally relaxed.

“Cece, bring your luggage inside yourself. I’ll make you dinner, Elizabeth stated. Though she was well into her sixties, she was still in her prime, 

Listening to music and cooking were her greatest hobbies. 

Celica acknowledged and brought her luggage into the room. 

The room’s decor was quite simple. Knowing her granddaughter was coming. Elizabeth prepared fresh daisy–patterned bedsheets. After setting her luggage down, Celica took out her laptop and sat on the bed to send job applications. 

To be safe, she decided to apply to multiple design companies simultaneously. After finishing sending out her resume, she texted the store manager about quitting her job,

anded quickly. In addition, Charlotte and Nathaniel had made substantial purchases that day, so the manager transferred Celica her earnings and commissions for the past few days all at once. 

Receiving a sizable amount of income made Celica think this was the happiest thing she had experienced all day. 

As such, she didn’t need to rush into another job while waiting for responses, giving her more time to focus on her designs. 

After dinner was ready, Elizabeth called Celica to come and eat. They had a scrumptious meal; there was her favorite apple pie, and she took a huge bite of it. “It’s heaven for me if I can have your homemade apple pie every day, Grandma.” 

Speaking of which, my mother failed to pick up my grandmother’s cooking skills. Will it be tough for me, then? 

“You little sweet talker. Elizabeth was pleased with the praise. After they finished their meal, Celica cleared the table and did the dishes. 

On this peaceful night, Celica slept more soundly than ever before. She even lingered in bed a bit the next morning. 

By the time she arrived in the living room, she found that Elizabeth had prepared breakfast and left a note saying she had gone out. 

Elizabeth could sing and had been invited to join a singing group. There was a competition coming up, so she left early for rehearsals. 

After having breakfast, Celica sat in the backyard pavilion and worked on her design drawings. She didn’t leave until around noon when she changed into a summer dress. 

Meanwhile, at the Hyde Estate, Nathaniel–dressed in a stylish suit and a limited edition Bvlgari watch- carried the dominance that an Alpha was born with. Every inch of him was impeccable, and he even had a strong, unapproachable field around him. 

On the table lay the findings of Celica’s recent circumstances. Nathaniel picked up a glass of milk and elegantly flipped through the documents. 

Despite being the eldest daughter of the Silvermoon Pack, this firstborn was not particularly favored. She had to pay her own college tuition, and even the expenses for her mother’s illness were her sole responsibility. 

For a student who is still in school to bear such heavy financial burdens, it’s no wonder she cares so much about money.

Without money, her very survival would be in question 

He recalled the determination she displayed when she left that day, which undoubtedly contained a great deal of disappointment. 

He had never cared about Celica’s feelings and hadn’t considered her situation, failing to understand her. 

Celica was unique, unlike other she–wolves who only wanted the position of Luna. From her, he could sense Selene’s call. Her sparkling eyes held the soft light of the moonlight. Even if Nathaniel disregarded his physical reaction to her, he felt a strong attraction to her personality. 

Remus hurried into the hall with a document in hand and handed it over, saying, “Alpha, it’s a document sent by Lama.” 

With a stoic face, Nathaniel opened the document and saw that it was a mate rejection agreement. Without breaking a sweat, he tore the document into pieces. The nerve of her to send this to him! It seemed like his Luna was serious about leaving the pack. 

The wolf within him was losing his patience, and his instincts prompted him to act. Snorting, he rose to his feet and headed to the door. “Prepare the car,” he ordered, and Remus followed suit. 

Celica had spent the day grocery shopping and had also picked up a dessert. She savored the sweet ice cream, feeling as happy as a blooming flower. 

As she walked along a path to the entrance of the courtyard, a figure in a white shirt came into view. 

“Beornwulf?” Celica was a bit surprised. Why is he here? 

Beornwulf, clad in a pristine white shirt, appeared as immaculate and radiant as ever. His short, tousled hair swayed in the wind, and his deep black eyes shimmered like dazzling stars. He was the heartthrob of the school–a handsome, cultured young man who seemed to have stepped out of a fairy tale. 

Like many other girls, Celica had secretly admired him for years. 

“Cece!” Beornwulf called out, catching sight of the face that had occupied his thoughts day and night. A slight wave of emotion flickered in his serene eyes. 

After their encounter at the bar, he had pondered deeply. Over the course of their four–year companionship, he had come to realize that Celica was a virtuous girl. The mere thought of her disappearing from his life forever filled him with a pang of anguish. 

It was easy to discern one’s true feelings–just imagine never seeing them again, and if the pain was unbearable, it was love. 

Beornwulf was now experiencing these very emotions. 

He approached her and gently grasped her delicate wrist. “I have contemplated long and hard in these past few days. I cannot bear to let you go. I am unconcerned about your past, and I hope you will… agree to be my girlfriend!”
