Laurel stood there, completely dumbfounded.
“W–what did you just say?” Laurel stammered, struggling to process the shocking news.

In her mind, Isabel’s life revolved entirely around her son. He was her everything, and Laurel had always kept a tight grip on Isabel because of this.
Before Eva came into the picture and before Isabel’s fall from grace, Laurel had actually considered Isabel as a suitable future daughter–in–law.
Even after Isabel was abandoned by her son, and despite her repeated confrontations with the Johnson family–especially her cruelty toward Eva–Laurel had assumed that Isabel still had feelings for her son.
But now…
Just moments ago, Laurel had been stunned to hear from her son that Isabel had already married someone else. She wasn’t his wife anymore. That news hit her like a ton of bricks.
Eva, too, was reeling. How could Isabel have married someone else?
As Eva tried to make sense of it, a face flashed through her mind–Xander’s face, which, if possible, seemed even more handsome than Kaleb’s.
Could it be him?
Kaleb, frowning deeply, broke the silence. “It’s true,” he said, his voice filled with complex emotions as he looked at Isabel.
Laurel’s jaw dropped in disbelief, her expression frozen as she stared at Isabel, too shocked to say anything.
“Is there anything else you want to say? If not, I’ll be on my way,” Isabel said, raising an eyebrow with an air of indifference, her smile cold and uninvolved.
Kaleb and the others couldn’t help but feel unsettled by Isabel’s detachment.
Stepping forward, Kaleb looked Isabel in the eye. “I need to ask you one thing: is the bankruptcy of the overseas company somehow connected to you? Did Mr. Lynch help you orchestrate this?”
“No,” Isabel replied curtly.
“No? How is that even possible?” Kaleb demanded. “If not him, then who else could have done this?” His words suggested that only someone Isabel knew could have had the resources to pull something like this off.
Isabel’s faint smile widened ever so slightly. “Guess.”
Kaleb’s frustration was palpable.
“Oh, by the way.” Isabel suddenly turned her attention to Eva, her eyes narrowing. “The photos… you uploaded them, didn’t you?”

“Shut up!” Isabel cut him off, her disgust for him growing by the second. How dare be downjay what is woman had gone through?
“You think just tugging at my clothes was fine? What, do you need someone to do sommeting wou to you woman–maybe get her pregnant–before you’ll actually care? You act like you’re the geard thing ever like every woman in the world should be dying to be with you. Any woman who ended up with you would only suffer!”
Isabel’s words hit hard–not just at Kaleb but at Eva as well,
Eva’s face faltered, her gaze shifting toward Kaleb,
She, too, was a woman, and she understood the fear of experiencing something like that firsthand
Kaleb, noticing her distress, quickly reassured her. “Eva, don’t worry. I told you I’d protect you forever. I’ll never treat you like that.”
His words brought a wave of comfort, and Eva’s confidence surged.
She gave Isabel a smug look, silently conveying, See that? In Kaleb’s heart, you’re nothing compared to me. Our positions are worlds apart.
Isabel suddenly let out a chilling laugh, sharp and unsettling.
Eva’s confident smile faded, replaced by an unease that slowly crept in.
With deliberate steps, Isabel closed the gap between them.
“What are you trying to do?” Laurel instinctively stepped forward, standing protectively in front of Eva.
Kaleb also moved closer to Eva, aware of Isabel’s power. Though he didn’t know how Isabel had gained such strength, now was not the time to dwell on that.
He had witnessed her abilities firsthand–if she could nearly kill him, how could Eva, so much more vulnerable, be safe?
Isabel’s gaze locked with Eva’s, her confidence palpable. “You can deny it all you want, but I already have the proof.”
When the photos had surfaced, Isabel had immediately ordered Beowulf to investigate. Just that morning, after breakfast, Beowulf had confirmed that Eva was behind it all.
Isabel had suspected as much for a while, but without solid evidence, she’d kept quiet.

Laurel’s voice was full of conviction, her trust in Eva unshakable. To Laurel, Eva was the ideal daughter–in- law.
At that moment, the unmistakable sound of a siren cut through the tension.
Isabel was the first to notice, and Kaleb and the others followed her gaze as a police car pulled up in front of them.
Laurel couldn’t help but throw Isabel a mocking glance. “Breaking the law again, Isabel? Are the officers here to take you away?”
Isabel didn’t respond but gave Laurel a tight, humorless smile that made her shiver.
The officers stepped out of the car and scanned the group before their eyes settled on Eva.
“You’re Eva Shepherd?” one of the officers asked.
At those words, both Kaleb and Laurel turned their full attention to Eva.
Eva paled, and after a brief moment of hesitation, she forced herself to speak, trying to sound calm. “Y- yes, I’m Eva. Officer, what’s this about?”
The officer produced a photo–one showing Isabel being grabbed by an overseas boss, her clothes pulled roughly at the collar.
The officer’s voice was cold. “The person in this photo has reported that you were the one who spread these images, paid bloggers to circulate rumors, and hired a team of trolls to harass the victim, severely damaging their reputation. Please come with us.”
Eva stumbled back, shaking her head desperately. “No, I didn’t! It’s a lie. She’s just making this she hates me! She’s framing me!”

Kaleb and Laurel immediately rushed to shield Eva.
“Officer! You can’t just take her word for it! You need actual evidence before you can arrest anyone! Eva’s always been sweet and kind; she would never harm anyone! She couldn’t possibly do something this malicious,” Laurel shouted, her voice filled with a mix of pain and fury as she glared at Isabel, wishing she could tear her apart.
Before Kaleb could say anything more in Eva’s defense, the officer spoke again.
