Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The night breeze was cold as I went back to grab my coat.
Just as I reached the door, I heard Enzo’s words.
I froze in place, feeling as if ice had crept over my entire body.
The lively chatter in the private room fell silent.
After what seemed like an eternity, someone finally spoke.
et’s… pretty extreme.”
“Enze, you’re really obsessed with Sonia Fenella. She’s been gone for so many years that we’ve almost forgotten what she looks like, but you still can’t let her go.”
“But Enzo, I heard Sonia is coming back tomorrow. What about your fiancée?”
Enzo didn’t answer. Instead, he muttered something indistinct.
“She’s not your sister–in–law.”
Hearing those words extinguished the last glimmer of hope in my heart.
Tears burst from my eyes as I ran to the restroom, afraid someone might see me.
Stumbling along, memories of the past six years surged through my mind.
Enzo and I met through a blind date. He was a renowned plastic surgeon in town.
From the moment he laid eyes on me, his gaze was filled with amazement.
What followed was his relentless pursuit.
Roses arrived in bundles, designer goods in waves.
Anything I wanted, he’d try to get–even the stars in the sky.
Friends and colleagues envied me, saying I had found a one–in–a–million man.
I, too, fell for him, captivated by his unwavering tenderness.
I fell for him completely after a car accident.
While we were shopping, a car careened out of control toward us.
Without hesitation, Enzo shielded me with his body.
He ended up with three fractured ribs, while I only sustained minor facial injuries.
He was devastated by guilt, apologizing and offering to repair the damage to my face himself.
“Sorry, Mandy. I failed to protect you,” he said.
“To make it up to you, I’ll give you a more beautiful face and a better life. Be with me–let me make amends.”
At the time, I was touched, swept away by what I thought was genuine love.
Little did I know, he just wanted to use the opportunity to mold me into his first love’s image.
Gazing at the stranger in the mirror, tears streamed down my face.
No wonder he always cradled my face with such affection during our intimate moments,

Chapter 1
I had thought it was because he loved me deeply.
But in reality, he was just searching for Sonia through me.
Thankfully, I had refused the painful bone–shaving surgery, opting only for minor adjustments.
Thankfully, I had agreed to his proposal but hadn’t yet married him.
There was still time to walk away.
I wiped away my tears and dialed a number.
“Boss, I’m applying for an overseas assignment in South Africa as a frontline journalist.”
at’s great, Mandy! With some experience, you’ll have a bright future. But frontline journalists must sign a confidentiality agreement, cutting off all outside contact. Will your fiancé agree?”
Before I could answer, a message popped up on my phone.
The sender used a profile picture strikingly similar to Enzo’s.
“I heard Enzo found a knockoff version of me. That must be you. Can’t wait to see your reaction tomorrow.”
The venomous taunt pierced my heart like a nail.
I didn’t reply.
With firm resolve, I told my boss, “The wedding’s off. My career comes first. He’s not worth sacrificing everything I’ve worked for.”
“That’s the Mandy I know–never one to settle for being a homemaker orbiting around a man. I’ll send you the contract tomorrow. Be ready to leave in five days!”
Her words left me with mixed emotions.
Once, I had willingly stayed for Enzo Carson.
Now, it was he who had betrayed my devotion, shattered my heart.
Since that’s the case, I’ll never look back.
