Chapter 3
I didn’t say a word and went back to my room.
Enzo Carson followed behind with Sonia Fenella.
He bent down to help her change into house slippers.
But when he turned and saw me, his face darkened,
“Why is the house such a mess? Didn’t I ask you to clean up?”
who never lifted a finger for chores, suddenly started tidying the house for Sona
He fussed over whether she was comfortable but didn’t notice that everything of ours had disappeared.
I ignored the two of them and continued packing my things.
After hesitating for a moment, Enzo came over.
“Why haven’t you made lunch? Mandy, are you upset?”
Don’t overthink it. Sonia is an old friend of mine; we grew up together. It’s been years since I last saw her, so naturally, I need to take care of her. Besides, she’s always been delicate because of her poor health…”
Usually reserved and quiet, Enzo became surprisingly talkative when speaking about Sonia.
He didn’t even realize how tender his voice became as he talked about her.
I glanced at him impatiently.
“So, does that mean I’m supposed to be your live–in maid?”
It was the first time I’d ever snapped at Enzo. He looked taken aback.
Realizing he might’ve overstepped, he pulled out a necklace from his pocket.
“Of course not. Look, I bought you this necklace to thank you for everything. Don’t be petty.”
I recognized it immediately as a promotional giveaway from Couple’s Paradise.
I had suggested visiting the park many times before, but Enzo always claimed he was too busy with work.
Yet now that Sonia was back, he willingly got up early just to take her there.
Seeing my silence, Enzo thought I had cooled off. He leaned down to put the necklace on me.
“I know you’re not the type to get jealous or throw tantrums.”
Disgusted, I turned away.
His hand froze mid–air, and his expression turned impatient.
“Mandy, what’s gotten into you? I bet it’s those friends and coworkers of yours rubbing off on you.”
“If you ask me, you should just quit your job and focus on the wedding. Sonia’s looking for work now that she’s back, and she also studied broadcasting. You could give her your position.”
I was about to argue when a sharp noise came from the living room.
Enzo immediately panicked, shoving past me and running out.
His shoulder knocked me into a cabinet, and the pain almost brought me to tears.

When I walked out of the room, I saw Enzo cradling Sonia carefully, comforting her.
On the floor lay my mother’s jade bracelet, shattered.
“Sorry, Mandy. I just thought the bracelet was beautiful and wanted to take a closer look. I didn’t mean to break it.”
I picked up the pieces, trembling with rage.
“Sonia Fenella, that bracelet was my mother’s heirloom!”
Sonia’s eyes filled with tears as she shrank back into Enzo’s arms.
“Enzo, Mandy’s so mean. I’m scared…”
zo was immediately distressed.
He pulled out a wad of cash from his wallet and flung it at me without even looking.
“Mandy, stop making a scene! It’s just a bracelet. I’ll buy you a new one. But you’ve upset Sonia, so you owe her an apology!”
The corner of a bill grazed my cheek, leaving a red mark.
Tears mixed with blood as they rolled down my face.
My disheveled appearance seemed to stir something in Enzo.
He sighed, reaching out to help me up from the floor.
“I didn’t mean to lose my temper. But this was your fault to begin with…”
Before he could finish, Sonia suddenly stood up.
“If I’d known I’d be so unwelcome, I wouldn’t have come back from abroad.”
“Never mind. My family already arranged a blind date for me. I don’t need to hold on to the past anymore.”
She grabbed her bag and stormed out.
Enzo shot up, his expression panicked in a way I’d never seen before.
Without a second thought, he ran after her, leaving everything else behind.
As I bent down to pick up the shattered bracelet, Enzo’s haste caused him to step on my foot.
The shards cut into my hand.
The pain shot through me like lightning, and I cried out.
But Enzo’s mind was entirely on Sonia. He didn’t even glance back.
I cradled the broken bracelet in my trembling hands,
Recalling the day my mother passed away.
Enzo had knelt by her bedside, swearing,
“I’ll treat Mandy well for the rest of my life. I’ll never let her be hurt.”
Over the years, Enzo had treated me well–so well that everyone envied me.
But seeing how he acted around Sonia, I realized his kindness was meaningless.
Now that Sonia was back, even his superficial gestures of love were gone.
While I was lost in thought, my boss sent over the contract.

“Mandy are you sure about this? If you go, there’s no telling when–or if–you’ll return. This means severing ties with everything here.”
“I’m sure.”
Without hesitation. I signed my name.
My relationship with Enzo Carson was like that broken bracelet-
Shattered beyond repair.
