The tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes finally spilled over. If only he only knew, there was no more baby to be shopped for.
My sudden outburst made Owen confused and somehow embraced me as he said, “Oh, hun. Please don’t cry. I really promise, I’ll focus on-”
“Owen!”
wen’s head turned in Amber’s direction, ho was now awake and staring at us. She started crying and added, “Please come here! My legs hurt like hell!”
My mate didn’t hesitate to rush to Amber’s side, and the space he left behind felt colder than ever. I didn’t have to witness how he pampered her, so even though my wounds were still in the stage of healing, I stormed out of the pack clinic and sprinted down the darkness of the forest. A hill loomed ahead, and I climbed it as fast as I could, needing the physical exertion to match the emotional turmoil inside me.

When I got to the top, a hunting howl escaped from my throat, echoing through the night sky. My wolf continued to howl, while inside, I was screaming, “I will not let this break me. I will rise stronger from this pain and find my own path!”
When I got home, Dad mindlinked me, saying, “Everything’s ready, child. Are you?”
“Yes,” I replied, and I instantly pulled the luggage out of the closet.
I left the divorce papers and my legal statement that I was leaving my position as Luna–signed by the Elders–in the
bedroom, along with the photos and videos of him and Amber, as well as the second- hand gifts.
After a final once–over at the pack, I drove away; my heart felt lighter at every kilometer that passed. My knuckles were tightly gripping the steering wheel as I tried to push the mind–link to him, saying, “I, Aleli Payne, reject you Owen Edison of Alpha of Hidden Spring Pack.”

I knew that at this time of the night, he was fast asleep, and I intended to reject him in his unconscious state.
Not a second later, I felt him stirred, but still asleep. Goosebumps formed on my skin as he replied in a seeming drunk tone.
“I, Alpha Owen Edison, reject you, Aleli Payne as my mate and Luna.”
A sharp pain hit my chest as though I’d been hit by a massive log. My wolf howled in my mind, giving me a headache. But all the pain only lasted for a minute. After that, my body seemed to feel lighter like a small feather.
I smiled. “Finally, I’m free.”
