Chapter 7
It was hours after I arrived at the Werewolf
Committee palace when Owen suddenly remembered me.
Still in the pack doctor’s cottage, he suddenly jerked from his sleep, touching his chest. Then he suddenly whispered my name. “Aleli?”
“What’s happening?” Amber rose from the bed beside him
Owen shook his head but he looked confused, turning to face Amber. “I don’t feel okay. It’s like my body has been hit by a truck.”
“We just got attacked by the rogues back in the nightclub, that’s why.” Amber tried to push Owen to the bed, urging him to rest. “Let’s sleep a little bit more.”
But Owen refused, standing up slowly and saying, “I will leave you for a while. I need to get home to see if Aleli is doing good.

After all, she was hurt as well.”
Amber’s smile vanished for a moment. before she grabbed Owen’s arm. She bit her lower lip, a gesture that she would usually do when she wanted to seduce him, but this time it was out of worry. “Please bet with me. What if the rogues come back? I
don’t want to be alone.”
And the stupid Owen’s weakness came to the surface as he couldn’t resist Amber’s plea. So he instead tried to mindlink me, only he noticed that our line of communication was dead.
“This is strange.” Confusion clouded his features.
This was the first time in our years of marriage and being mates that he failed to reach me through our mindlink. I used to be always available to him, no matter if I was sleeping or busy with something else important.
He used his phone to ring me instead, but

his face darkened as I didn’t pick up. The number I was using was no longer in
service. Even the social media I had been
active on was now showing no recent
activity.
“No. Something is off.” He ran his
trembling hands through his hair, and his heart seemed to thud in his ears, deafening out all other sounds.
Owen shoved the phone into his pocket, but he was still standing still, his
gaze directly at the blank wall in front of him. The sinking feeling in his stomach grew stronger as his mind raced. Finally, he rushed to the door.
Amber tried to cling to his arm, begging. “Owen, please. Don’t leave me. I need you more than she needs you. Please stay!”
But Owen was already out the door, his mind consumed with worry and fear. Amber, on the other hand, collapsed to the floor in tears, feeling abandoned. She screamed, “What dare you do this to me,

Owen! I know you care for me so much that you would abandon Aleli for me. Why would you leave now when I need you the most?”
The echoes of her cries filled the empty room, as Owen’s footsteps faded into the distance.
When he stormed into the packhouse, the hair on his skin stood on end immediately. It was as if the house did not belong to him, as he felt a sudden sensation of gloom
d unfamiliarity.
“Aleli?” He called out, barging in our bedroom. He called my name again after opening the cabinets and finding them empty. Though he had the suspicion already, he continued to check every corner of the room, hoping to find something that belonged to me. But he found nothing, only confirming his worst fear that I had left without a trace.
Even the pictures on the wall were incomplete–only his image staring back at

him. I intentionally tore my picture out of every frame, leaving him with nothing but. memories of me. Even my old shoes and clothes were gone, leaving behind an empty space that once held my presence.
“No, no, no. This can’t be.” He stumbled, losing his balance, until he fell to the bed.
It was then that he had touched one of the documents, noticing all the scattered papers onto the mattress. He frowned in confusion as he opened the big envelope Amber had sent to me weeks ago, and the letter attached to it even made him more bewildered. He played the videos saved in a USB and stopped it before he saw
something that shook him to his core. Hist own scandals were exposed in the videos, revealing a side of himself he never knew existed–or just wouldn’t admit to.
