Chapter 8
His blood seemed to freeze as he gripped his hair until it felt like his scalp was on fire. “Did she gather all of this?” He couldn’t imagine how hurtful I feel whenever I add one photo or video to my collection of traumatic memories.
But the most disturbing part was yet to come, as he noticed an envelope peeking out from under his computer monitor–it was a report from the pack doctor
confirming my miscarriage, and the date was familiar to him. It was the day when he and Amber went out of town for a weekend getaway.
His hands were trembling as he crumpled the paper in his fist. The words in it even caused his eyes to well up with tears. The report even said that the baby was a boy, and now he wouldn’t be able to have the heir he ever dreamed of.

without his permission. It was the night I was struggling to mindlink him. He knew that the pack was under attack, and even though he felt guilty for not being there to protect them, he chose to be with Amber.
“I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry!” Owen collapsed to the ground, his body trembling as the miscarriage report was still clutched tightly in his hand.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He immediately rushed to open it, ignoring how miserable he looked.
But standing on the other side was his beta, Dawin. He had this piece of paper in his hand, his expression was dark and serious.
“Where is your Luna?” Owen asked. He was too weak to grab his beta’s collar and demand answers.
Beta Dawin sighed, saying, “Luna Aleli left hours ago. But she said, I must give this letter to you when you return.”
The paper almost slipped from Dawin’s

hand as Owen snatched it. His hands shook uncontrollably as he read every word as though he were hearing it from my own lips.
“Dear Owen, I was surely in another territory the moment you read this letter. Funny how we ended like this, considering that we used to be best friends to each other. We used to have each other’s back through thick and thin. But ever since, I’ve heen loving you, even though my heart was
eaking every time I saw you with Amber. But of course, she was your fated mate, and now that she’s back, she would be the one to hold your heart. So, I’m setting you free, and I forgive you. I hope you find happiness with her, Owen. Goodbye.”
“I will not accept this!” Owen gripped on his scalp again, the paper crumpling in his hand. “You can’t leave me, Aleli. You have to return. I’m still your mate. Our bond will never be broken, no matter what!”

tears, he noticed Beta Dawin staring down at his neck, looking confused and concerned, he said, “Alpha, your mark?”
“What?” Owen reached to touch the crook
of his neck where I had once marked him
as my mate. But now it was smooth as though it had never been there. “So that wasn’t a fucking dream at all. She rejected me in my sleep, and I unwittingly accepted it.” He rushed to the mirror and saw that the mark was indeed gone. “I’m so sorry, Aleli. Please come back. Please don’t leave.
me like this!
He then smashed the mirror with a howl of frustration and anger. But the emotion. wasn’t directed at me, but at himself and Amber.
So he stormed out of the packhouse, his fists dripping with blood, although it had healed the moment he reached the pack doctor’s clinic.
Amber gasped once she saw him. She instantly threw herself into his arms,

holding him tightly as tears streamed down her face.
But Owen’s thick hand flew right across her face, slapping her hard.
