Chapter 124
I laughed softly but sat down as he gently guided my wet hair under the warm air. His movements were slightly awkward, as if he wasn’t quite used to such tasks, but he was careful, taking his time.
The gentle hum of the hairdryer filled the room, creating a cozy silence between us. When he finished, he turned off the dryer, and suddenly the room felt thick with something unspoken, a quiet tension that wrapped around us like a blanket.
“Lirian,” I whispered, turning to look at him. His eyes held a warmth, a depth I hadn’t noticed before.
I tilted my head, studying his face. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course,” he replied, his gaze steady.
I hesitated, feeling a strange dread in the pit of my stomach, but the words slipped out before I could stop them. “If one day I… die, if it’s because of Arman or Ryan… would you avenge me?”
The look in Lirian’s eyes shifted, as if a veil of winter had settled over them, turning them into an icy lake. He reached forward, pulling me into his arms. His embrace was so warm, so solid, that I felt a
shiver run through me.
**Sophia,”
,” he murmured, his voice a deep, protective rumble. “I won’t let you die. Not while I’m here. I’ll protect you and everything you care about. Even if it costs me everything.”
Something in his words soothed me, and with his arms around me, I drifted off to sleep.
That night, I dreamed again. It was a strange dream, one that felt like a memory from another life. Int it, Lirian stood in the middle of a rain–soaked street, dressed in a black trench coat that clung to his
tall, lean frame.
He looked hauntingly fierce, his face shadowed and intense. Across from him stood Ryan, bloodied and bruised, barely holding himself up. Linda was tied to a tree, bound and helpless, explosives strapped to her chest.
Lirian’s voice was cold and calm, yet laced with anger as he spoke to Arman, who watched with wide, fearful eyes. “Guess how many pieces your fiancée will be blown into if I press this button?” he said, holding up a small device.
Arman’s face went pale, his voice breaking with desperation. “Come on, Lirian, take it out on me.
Leave her out of this.”

Tinda’s afraid of pain.” Arman pleaded. “Don’t do this, Lirian. We were friends once.”

Abitter laugh escaped Lirian’s lips. “And you think Sophia isn’t afraid of pain?” He took a step closer, his eyes flashing dangerously. “You keep coming after her, threatening her, hurting her. Why should
show mercy to anyone who’s done that?”
Lirian turned his gaze to Ryan, who stood there, hollow and beaten, barely able to meet his eyes. “And you,” Lirian sneered, his voice sharp as a blade, “you deserve worse than hell for what you’ve done to her.”
Ryan’s head dropped, his voice shaking. “Just kill me, Lirian,” he muttered, almost pleading. “When I die, I’ll go to Sophia… I’ll find her in the afterlife and make it up to her.”
A flicker of rage crossed Lirian’s face, and his grip tightened around the detonator. “No. When Sophia dies, she’ll go to heaven. You’ll be rotting in hell, and you’ll never see her again. She’ll be at peace, away from all of you who tried to harm her.”
Ryan let out a strangled cry, collapsing to his knees in anguish.
Arman was growing frantic, his voice shaking as he tried to reason with Lirian. “Calm down, Lirian! If you prese
that button, we’ll all die!”
Lirian’s face softened slightly, a trace of sorrow flickering across his eyes. “I made Sophia a promise once,” he murmured. I swore I’d protect her for the rest of her life… and I failed.”
haunting silence fell over the scene as Lirian’s grip on the detonator tightened. In that moment, he looked like he was willing to sacrifice everything to honor the promise he had broken.
And then, in a single, blinding instant, the world exploded. The sound of the blast was deafening, shaking the ground beneath us. Everything–anger, love, regret–was swallowed up by the fire and smoke, dispersing into the air, leaving only ashes and silence in its wake.
I jolted awake, the shadows of my nightmare still clinging to me like a cold mist. My heart pounded as if it wanted to break free from my chest, and my breaths came fast and shallow.
Lirian was woken up as well, and the first thing he did was hug me, “What’s wrong, Sophia?”
