Chapter 8
She accused me of hiring men to attack her, sobbing dramatically. “Sophia, if you hated me so much, you could have just told me to leave! Why would you do this to me?”
Her words sealed my fate. Ryan didn’t hesitate. He locked me in the basement.
Only after my death did I learn the truth. Linda had orchestrated everything. Her disappearance, the assault, it was all a carefully planned act. She had wanted me gone for years, and she finally saw her chance to take my place, to become Mrs. Walker.
Two weeks after I disappeared, Ryan erased every trace of me from the mansion. Linda took over my sunny bedroom. The security guards he had sent to find me were recalled.
He sneered. “Don’t mention that woman’s name again. Consider her dead.”
He spent his days helping Linda choose a wedding dress. Over a hundred dresses, and Ryan, who hated waiting, patiently watched her try on each one. But sometimes, he would stare off into space, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes.
Two days later, Ethan returned.
With him was a strikingly handsome man–Lirian.
Lirian, Ryan’s Beta, was the true force behind the pack, handling almost all the responsibilities. Ryan? He was nothing more than a figurehead, content to squander wealth and enjoy himself, only signing off on important papers that Lirian had already prepared.
I often wondered–if Lirian hadn’t been sent away on a business trip the month of my accident, perhaps I wouldn’t have died in such agony.
“Alpha, where’s Luna?” Lirian’s voice was cold, laced with a quiet menace.
Ryan visibly bristled at Lirian’s tone but, as their eyes met, his bravado faltered. Lirian’s gaze was sharp, dangerous, and filled with barely restrained fury.
The truth was, Lirian was everything Ryan was not–powerful, intelligent, and infinitely more capable. His strength was legendary, and his arrogance in battle was unmatched. With his abilities, Lirian could have easily left the Stardust Pack, formed his own, and risen as an Alpha in his own
right.
But he didn’t. For reasons I never fully understood, he chose to remain as Beta, silently supporting a

leader who didn’t deserve him.
His voice was low and dangerous. “I’ve used every connection I have. There’s no record of Sophia leaving this city. She’s still here, in this house!”
Linda’s face went white.
Ryan stepped forward, blocking Ethan. “This is my house, Ethan. Even with your family’s influence, you can’t just barge in here and make demands.”
Ethan scoffed. He gestured behind him.
Michael stepped forward, his face ashen. “Finish what you were about to say, Michael,” Ethan commanded.
Michael glanced nervously at Linda, his body trembling. “It was… it was Miss Linda! I saw her that night. She took Mrs. Walker… She took her to the backyard and… and buried her!”
Michael couldn’t take it anymore. Linda had made his life a living hell, constantly finding ways to torment him. He had reached his breaking point. He knew Ethan would treat him fairly. I had told him once, “If you’re unhappy here, you can come work for my brother. He’s a good man, Michael. He treats everyone with respect.”
Michael’s words hung in the air. Linda threw her wedding dress to the ground and screamed.
“Liar! You’re lying! You old fool! Why are you making this up? I have no reason to harm Sophia! It was Ryan who locked her in the basement! It has nothing to do with me!”
Michael had nothing left to lose. He sneered.
“Nothing to do with you? Don’t play dumb, Miss Linda. You’ve been living in this house for years, treating Mrs. Walker like dirt. She was too kind to fight back, but don’t think we didn’t notice your little games.”
“Michael!” Ryan’s voice was cold. “You better be able to back up your accusations.”
Michael dropped to his knees, desperate to reach the Ryan he once knew, the man before Linda’s poison had taken hold.
*Sir, I know where Miss Linda buried Mrs. Walker. If you don’t believe me, come with me. You’ll see.”
Ryan nodded slowly.
