Chapter 38
The words hung in the air, sharp and deliberate.
The entire room had gone still.
No one know…
one knew what to say.
All eyes were on Ryan, whose face had turned beet red, his anger simmering just beneath the surface.
He was furious, not just at me, but at the fact that he had been exposed in front of everyone.
Linda, who had been standing close by, looked as if she might faint..
Her complexion had turned ashen, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“Ryan’s money… all of it… comes from Sophia?” she whispered, the realization dawning on her slowly. “But… isn’t he supposed to be a rich second–generation? He always acts like-”
The room was buzzing now with whispers as everyone reevaluated their assumptions about Ryan.
They had all believed him to be someone of wealth and status. But now, seeing me step forward to pay the bill, their perceptions were shattered.
Mia, never one to back down, spoke up again, this time her voice laced with mockery.
“Sophia, are you really trying to make us believe that Ryan’s money is yours? Just because you’re holding onto his cards doesn’t mean the money belongs to you. You’re just a servant’s daughter! You’ve got some nerve acting all high and mighty.”
Her words hung in the air, and for a moment, the crowd seemed uncertain.
Mia’s smug smile widened as if she thought she had caught me in a lie.
I looked at Mia, meeting her gaze calmly, and then let out a soft, amused laugh.
Since you’re so sure of my place, let me correct you,” I said, my voice steady. “I’m not the daughter of any servant. Ryan’s mother used to be a maid in my house, but she was fired for laziness and incompetence. She no longer works for my family. If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask Ryan “yourself.”

The room fell into stunned silence.

All eyes turned to Ryan. He stood there, frozen, unable to move or speak. The expression on his face said it all–he had no defense, no witty comeback to save him this time.
I stepped forward, my gaze never leaving his.
“What do you say, Ryan?” I asked, my voice dripping with mock sweetness. “Am I right, or am I lying?”
Ryan’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
He was cornered, trapped by the truth. His friends stared at him, their judgment clear in their eyes.
He had been living off my money, pretending to be something he wasn’t, and now, the entire room
knew it.
Ryan’s glare was sharp, full of defiance.
His dark eyes burned with resentment, but behind that, I could see the old wound of his past
humiliation.
Before we had started dating, his life had been filled with insults, whispers, and cruel taunts about
is illegitimacy.
His classmates and the people in the Stardust Pack had once ridiculed him relentlessly. But all of that had changed after we got together.
I treated him well, showered him with gifts, and shaped his public image into something more than
what he really was.
I packaged him into the image of a perfect guy–confident, charismatic, a leader among his peers. He became a star in the crowd, and suddenly, no one dared to belittle him anymore. No one had the courage to mock the guy whose “rich girlfriend” adored him, who made him seem powerful and untouchable. Even at school, everyone knew I was his admirer, and by extension, they respected
him.
But now, I had flipped everything upside downL
The people who once fawned over him were now watching with wide eyes, wondering if the Ryan they thought they knew had ever existed.
He was a fraud, a man dependent on someone else for his image and wealth.

Ryan clenched his fists, the veins in his hands bulging as he tried to contain his fury.
For a second, I thought he might lash out. He was close, so close to snapping. But he held back, his body trembling with barely controlled rage.
I watched him with cold eyes, knowing that if he dared to strike me here, his reputation–and whatever future he was clinging to–would be completely destroyed. He couldn’t afford to make a
scene.
Not here. Not now.
He took a deep breath, his shoulders rising and falling with the effort.
Without saying a word, he turned on his heel and stormed out of the room, leaving the murmuring crowd behind.
He knew everyone was watching him like a hawk, eager to see him fall apart, but he couldn’t give them that satisfaction.
He couldn’t speak because he knew I could just bring up the money again. I could humiliate him further.
Linda hesitated, biting her lip, before hurriedly following Ryan. The scene had been too ugly for her stay, and her face was pale with embarrassment. I remembered overhearing her just earlier, bragging to her friends about how close she and Ryan were.
