The Whisky was potent. Sonya felt a burning sensation in her throat after downing her shot. Lily Lane, already tipsy, was struggling to continue drinking.
Sonya took a deep breath, reaching for another glass, but Luna Stone stopped her. “Sonya, look where you are, who’s here. You’re drinking for her? Do you think you’re that important?” Luna Stone sneered.
Jake Parker frowned.“Don’t talk like that. We’re all friends.”
“Hah, friendships have hierarchies. Don’t go around saying you’re friends with them. I’d be embarrassed!”
“Sonya, I’m
sorry, there’s no room for you here. Go outside. I’ll get you a drink,” Seraphina West said sweetly, though the words were dripping with disdain.
“Get out!” Julian Jennings barked.
Sonya bit her lip.“Lily, let’s go.”
She tried to help Lily Lane leave, but Lily Lane pushed her away and raised another glass. “Young… Young Master Reynolds… I… I toast you…”
She was too drunk to see clearly, and toasted a fruit platter. Sonya intercepted the glass and turned to Jason Reynolds.
“Mr. Reynolds, I’ll drink this for her. Please forgive her.” Sonya downed the shot.
“Sonya! Can’t you understand? You…”
Luna Stone’s insult was cut short when Jason Reynolds stood up. He clinked his glass against Sonya’s empty one and drank it down.
“A beautiful lady’s toast, I have to accept.” His eyes were deep, with an ambiguous smile.
Jason Reynolds was notoriously difficult, giving no one special treatment. Luna Stone and Seraphina West had tried to toast him, but he hadn’t taken a sip.
“This one’s for you,” Jason Reynolds said, finishing another glass.
Sonya found him odd, but she accepted his gesture and raised another glass. Before she could drink, Julian Jennings intervened.
“She doesn’t drink well. I’ll drink for her.”
Sonya dodged his hand and finished her drink.
Julian Jennings’s face darkened.“Don’t embarrass yourself. Get out.”

He took a deep breath, positioned himself in front of Sonya, and addressed Jason Reynolds.“She’s unimportant. Let’s continue our conversation.”

“She’s not part of our circle.”
“What circle is that?”
Julian Jennings’s lips tightened. Jason Reynolds. was clearly provoking him.
“Xu, get
these ladies two more seats,” Jason Reynolds said to Jake Parker.
Jake Parker glanced at Julian Jennings, then nodded.“Okay.”
At Jason Reynolds’s behest, not only were seats added for Sonya and Lily Lane, but Jason Reynolds also insisted Sonya sit next to him. Julian Jennings glared, his face stormy.
Seraphina West nudged him, then smiled.“Young Master Reynolds, let me introduce them. They’re our college classmates. This is Lily Lane, a former actress, and this is Sonya, a doctor.”
Jason Reynolds shook hands with Lily Lane first, surprising her. When he shook Sonya’s hand, his grip tightened.
Sonya frowned and quickly withdrew her hand.
Jason Reynolds stifled a laugh.“Dr. Ella, since you’re sitting here, be prepared.”
“Prepared for what?” Sonya’s expression turned serious.
“Prepared to… drink heartily,” Jason Reynolds said with a smirk.

Sonya gritted her teeth. He seemed to enjoy teasing her.
“Young Master Reynolds, I’ll toast you,” Seraphina West offered.
Jason Reynolds waved her down.“We’re all friends. Don’t be so formal. Call me Jason Reynolds.” Seraphina West’s smile widened, but Julian Jennings stopped her from drinking, taking the shot for her.
“You’re pregnant. You can’t drink.“«
Seraphina West apologized.“Jason Reynolds, I really can’t.”
“If you can’t drink, why offer a toast? This back–and–forth is pointless,” Jason Reynolds said, his smile fading.
Luna Stone quickly spoke up.“We were talking about Lightning Films‘ new project. Seraphina likes a supporting role. It’s a bit beneath her status, but she really wants it. As old classmates, could you put in a good word?”
Jason Reynolds understood.“So that’s it.”
“It’s just a word for you.”
“It is a small matter.”

“Aren’t they holding open auditions? If she wants it, she should
audition.”
Luna Stone was taken aback.“For Seraphina to compete with newbies… if she loses, it will give the haters more ammunition.”
“If she loses, maybe she should consider her acting skills.”

Sonya was drunk by the time they left, but she still supported Lily Lane. Mr. Givens was waiting outside and helped them into the car.
After closing the car door, Mr. Givens approached Jason Reynolds.
