Sonya looked at his sincerity; her heart was full, not because of his offer, but his seriousness and respect for her as his life partner.
At home, Henry helped her

Sonya nodded; Henry had three close friends during his runaway year: Simon, Jay, and John Smith, who died in a robbery.
“John Smith’s parents were teachers. Before the accident, they lived comfortably. His sister took piano lessons and loved playing. After their parents died, their savings were scammed by relatives; John Smith had to drop out to support his sister. She wanted a piano, so we four
worked hard, saving enough for a second–hand piano on her birthday.”
Henry smiled, remembering those difficult but happy times with his friends.
“His sister?” Sonya remembered the short–haired girl who delivered dumplings, with a fiery
temper.
“Yes. She…” Henry frowned, trying to recall her name.“I forgot her name. She was always at school; we weren’t close.”
Henry pulled Sonya onto his lap, running his fingers through her hair. He kissed her fiercely.
Their passion was interrupted by Henry’s phone. He ignored it, but it kept ringing. He held Sonya close, then answered.
It was urgent work.
Henry hung
up,
kissing Sonya again, then taking
her to the bathroom.
“I have to go out of town. There’s a problem with one of my projects.”
Sonya looked up.“Now?”
“Yes, it’s urgent.”
She kissed him.“Be careful. I can shower myself. Go pack.”

He put her to bed.
“I’ll pack a bag and leave.”

“It’s cold outside.”

Sonya was dressed when Henry was ready. Luke was waiting outside.
“Call me when you arrive,” she said.
Henry kissed her.“Okay.”
Watching his car disappear, Sonya felt a pang of loneliness. As she turned to close the gate, someone appeared, blocking it with their foot.
