Julian Jennings looked shocked,

Julian turned, seeing Sonya, and urgently asked, “Is what Alex Ge said true?”
Sonya sighed. She didn’t want to talk about the past, especially what she’d done for Julian Jennings. Now, it just made her feel foolish.

She and Mrs. Ashley continued inside, but Julian stopped them.

Sonya took a deep breath.“Do you really want to know?”

Sonya nodded. “Okay, I’ll tell you.”
She walked toward the garden to a bench. As she sat, memories flooded back, and she frowned.
“Mr. Alex agreed to invest, but his shareholders thought the project was too risky and rejected it at the meeting. He set up a dinner to let you explain the project’s advantages. Naturally, there was a lot of drinking. But you ended up in the hospital with gastritis from excessive drinking. You’d been drinking heavily because you’d proposed to Seraphina West at her birthday party, and she’d said no.”
Sonya chuckled, remembering her younger self.
“For eight years, you proposed to Seraphina West every year, got rejected every year, and got completely drunk. What could I do? I couldn’t let Mr. Alex down, right? Sonya hurried into her villa, shutting the door to shut out Julian’s relentless voice. Only then did she realize her heart was pounding wildly.
Henry had a fiancée. They were in an accident together, and she died. Mrs. Sterling said Jasmine Smith died in a car accident.
