Chapter 10
“Stay away!” I tried to twist my body, my limbs bound by silver. It didn’t do anything. Every movement burned my flesh.
“Consider yourself lucky,” one of them sneered, his voice a low growl. “With that face, no one else would want you.”
They slashed my arm and my legs, letting the blood run out of my body. My body shook violently, my senses overwhelmed by the pain and fear coursing through me.
One of the rogues lost his patience and slapped me hard, making me out of balance and hang like an animal through the chain binding my wrist.
Their laughter mingling with my cries. I tried to fight back, but my wolf was too weak, suppressed by the silver‘ s poison. I was helpless.

strength and tried to transform into my wolf one more time. But the chains kept forbidding me to do so.
“Is this how it ends?” I thought, my mind slipping into the fog of defeat. Death whispered to me, telling me to accept my fate. “Who can save me now?”
Then I saw him. At first, I thought it was a cruel hallucination, brought on by the brink of death. But no, it was real. Talon was striding towards me, his face filled with fury and concern. His presence, and his energy cut through the darkness.
“Lily!” A familiar voice shouted. A familiar shadow coming in my direction.
“Am I dreaming?” I wondered, tears slipping down my bloodied cheeks. I had loved him once, and now, here he was in my dying vision just because I needed him
the most.
“Sloane!” His voice rang out, strong and commanding. “Sloane, wake up!”

I choked on my saliva, trying to find my voice to say his name. “Talon?”
Talon‘ s arms covered me which made the
effect of the silver chains less.
“Yes, it’s me,” he whispered frantically. “I’m so sorry… I‘ m sorry for coming here late, Sloane.”
“Are you here for my blood too?” I asked, not caring about the little energy I had left.
He looked different–thinner, disheveled like he hadn’t slept or eaten in days. His normally clean–cut appearance was gone, replaced by a scraggly beard and unkempt hair. He looked wild, broken. It wasn‘ t like him at all.
No wonder Lily had said he’d gone mad. He seemed on the brink of losing control. His bloodshot eyes scanned my injuries, his hand hovering near my face but never quite touching, afraid of causing more pain.
“No. I’m truly here for you and not for

what you have in your blood,” he firmly answered.
Then, I saw his eyes. I saw his wolf recognizing my wolf‘ s pain. My wolf whimpered and want to rest in the arms of her mate, but my consciousness couldn’t trust him.
“I’m so tired,” I ended up saying. My eyelids felt heavy, and my wolf was too weak to fight anymore.
“No, Sloane. Don’t sleep yet,” Talon urged.
He supported my falling body on his chest. while his other arm pulled the chains that tied my wrist. Then, he put both of his hands on me as he carefully laid me down on the cold ground of the factory.
“Wait until the healer gets here. Just a little longer, okay?”
“Okay,” I muttered, barely conscious.
I tried to open my eyes and see where Lily
was.

“Talon, I knew you still cared about me.”
“Have you gone nuts, Lily? What have your done?” Talon asked.
“I did it for you. I did for the pack.”
When I heard what Lily had said, a pang of pain stubbed my heart once again. Was she telling the truth? Did Talon know she’ll do
this?
