Chapter 7
Seven long years of chasing Talon s shadow, humbling myself for a love that I now realized had never been mine to
claim.
When I first met him, I didn’t know the full story. None of us did. We only saw the boy my mother had saved–wounded, silent, and alone.
He never spoke of what had happened to him, or why the rogues had left him for dead. But in a world like ours, where pack politics ruled everything, it wasn’t hard to guess. He carried the weight of his past in his eyes, a burden too heavy to share.
I didn‘ t question it back then. I thought our bond, forged in the small tribe of the Wildheart’s where my mother had nursed him back to life, was unbreakable. But I was wrong. It wasn‘ t love that bound Talon and me–it was loyalty. And his loyalty had always belonged to his pack.

Returning to the tribe after so many years brought a strange kind of peace. The air here was different, fresher, like the woods themselves, were offering some form of healing. The dark cloud that had weighed on my heart for so long lifted, if only a
little.
I tried to find the old house where my
mother and I had lived, but time had changed the village. The roads were different, the trees were taller, and the landscape was unrecognizable. It was as if the past had been swallowed by the earth.

I found a quiet spot surrounded by mountains, with a river flowing gently nearby, and birds singing above me. It felt right. I buried my mother‘ s urn there, marking the place with a simple bouquet. As I stood at her graveside, a strange emptiness washed over me.

I didn’t know. But I spoke to my mother silently, promising that I’d stay here, in the place where everything had begun.
“Mom, everything that started here will end here too. I’ll always be with you.”
With that, I settled into where my tribe is. I became a pup trainer, just as my mother had once wished to be. It was a simple life, but a fulfilling one. I taught the tribe‘ s pups how to use their senses while in the forest, defend themselves, and use. nature’s spirit to their advantage.
For the first time, I understood that happiness didn’t come from the grand things I had once believed in. It wasn’t about living forever with my mate who would be busy with the pack‘ s power clash and alliances.
I thought I could live this way forever. But the moon goddess had other plans.
That night, as I walked home from the

training ground, Lily appeared. She stepped out from the shadows, and the coldness in her eyes made the hair on the back of my neck rise. I had always known there was something off about her- something dangerous–but I had ignored it. I had been so focused on Talon, and on my own pain, that I hadn’t seen the real
threat.
My peaceful life didn’t last. It was interrupted by darkness, the kind I should. have seen coming.
Lily has always had eyes for Talon, but I knew she was watching every move I made. If she was here, then it’s either because of Talon or for my bloodline.
My mother once told me that our blood passed down through generations, carried ancient werewolf magic, a power long thought lost.
Before darkness consumed me, Talon‘ s face flashed in my mind. He was the only one who could have known about my
