Chapter 2
That day, Liam finally chose me.
He personally drove me home and told me the whole story along the way.
After this incident, he gave Olivia Grant a large sum of money and transferred her to the branch
office as a manager,
After that, he never saw Olivia again.
It was not until recently that he found out that Olivia was about to give birth.
The elders of the Carter family had long known about it. If they hadn’t ordered to keep it a secret
from Liam, the current situation wouldn’t have occurred.
Liam held me in his arms and gently patted my back, saying, “Evelyn, I’m really sorry.
“You know, I quit drinking since last year.”
I heard his explanation and suddenly burst into laughter. With tears in my eyes, I asked him, “If you have to make a choice between me and the child, who will you choose?”
He lowered his head in difficulty and struggled to squeeze out a sentence from his mouth.
“Do I have to choose?”
I nodded, but he lowered his head in silence.
Seeing him silent, I pushed him aside and took a step back, then went to the study to pack my
things.
He gently tapped on the study door and said, “Evelyn, I would rather you hit me than see you tormenting yourself like this.”
I, however, accidentally dropped something onto the door.
There was instantly no sound outside the door.
The next day, when I opened the door, he fell to the ground.
With dark circles, he looked at me and said, “Evelyn, I’m sorry.
“Don’t torture yourself anymore in the future.”
I watched him calmly without saying a word.
He came over and pleasingly held my hand, saying, “Do you remember today we are going back to

the Carter’s villa to visit grandma?”
Remembering the old lady’s kindness towards me, I admitted that my heart instantly softened. I nodded and followed him out of the door to freshen up.
The car slowly drove on the highway. It didn’t take much time for us to arrive at the Carter’s villa. Grandma, as usual, held my hand.
She was asking about my well–being, but when we started talking about children, my expression
suddenly changed and she stopped talking.
Just as she was about to change the topic, Liam’s assistant rushed in and whispered a few words in
his ear.
Liam’s face changed slightly, and he was about to leave.
He didn’t expect me to suddenly ask him a question.
“Where are you going? You haven’t even finished lunch yet.”
His eyes avoided mine as he struggled to speak, “Evelyn, something happened to her. The child may be in danger.
“I just go and sign a document. After all, I am the child’s father.”
After saying that, he expected me to let him go.
But unexpectedly, Harper Walsh, sitting on the side, quickly said, “Hurry up! Take good care of my great–grandson.”
At that moment, an indescribable feeling welled up in my heart.
As I watched Liam’s receding figure, I summoned the dormant system that had been silent for
many years.
“I want to leave here forever.”
“Sure, but due to your disruption of the system, it will take three days for repairs.‘
I said yes.
Liam came back in the evening with a coldness, holding my hand and saying, “This is the last time. I will never see her again.”
“Believe me.”
He made a solemn promise to me, but I remained completely indifferent.
