Chapter 49
The faint smile on Maggie’s face disappeared once more, replaced by a look of indifference.
She paused for two to three seconds before answering the phone. “Hello.”
On the other end, Isabella was speaking in a coquettish voice. “Mom, when are you coming
home?”
Maggie didn’t answer immediately but asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m so bored at home alone, can you come back and keep me company?”
With her father not at home and Aunt Julie also busy, the house was quiet, and she was
feeling very lonely.
She suddenly missed the days when her mom would chat with her and gently listen to her
talk about her favorite cartoons and figurines.
So, she decided to call Maggie, hoping her mom would come home and keep her company.
Maggie listened and replied calmly, “Mom has things to do, maybe next time.”
She was indeed her mother and should try her best to meet her needs.
But she also had her own life.
She was in a bad mood and needed some personal time.
Isabella sounded a bit disappointed. “Okay…”
“Then, I’ll hang up. If you need anything, just call me again.”
“Mm…”
Isabella hung up the phone, feeling even more bored.

Chapter 49
At that moment, Franklin returned home. Seeing her looking like a wilted flower, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I called Mom just now, hoping she’d come home and keep me company, but she said she
had things to do…” She buried her face in a soft pillow, looking pitiful. “Mom’s been so busy
lately.”
Franklin made a sound of acknowledgment and sat down on the nearby sofa, picking up his
phone to talk about work. He didn’t comfort her, though.
However, he didn’t go to his study to handle business but stayed there with her. Only when
he stayed by her side did Isabella’s mood improve a little. She happily picked up her tablet
and began playing her puzzle game again.
On the other side.
When Logan and the others returned, Logan asked, “Why were you gone so long?”
Logan paused for a moment. “I ran into Mag.”
“Mm? You saw her?”
Lauren Brown, who was beautiful and married well, was a strong woman both in her
husband’s family and the Brown family.
She hadn’t seen her niece in years, but her concern was not for her niece. Instead, she
seemed more interested in another matter: “Did you talk to her about Julie joining Cole?”
Logan shook his head. “We talked a little, but she wouldn’t listen.”
Logan set her coffee cup down and frowned. “Mag really… Although I understand that she’s upset about President Franklin being taken by Julie, we’ve all met him.
He’s not the kind of man who would be tied to a woman like her, who has nothing to offer aside from her beauty. Even if Julie wasn’t in the picture, President Franklin would’ve eventually divorced her.”
To Logan, Maggie’s obstruction of Julie joining Cole was simply driven by jealousy that Julie

had taken Franklin from her.
She believed Maggie was just a frivolous woman with no talents or education, causing
trouble and making a fuss.
She thought it was laughable, and it seemed likely that Franklin thought the same.
It was a pity that Maggie didn’t realize this. Perhaps she was still pleased with herself for ruining Julia’s chances.
Thinking about Julia’s talent and comparing her to Maggie, Logan felt increasingly that
there was no comparison between the two.
Logan sighed. “I know.”
He shared Lauren’s view.
“But she won’t listen.”
“She’s just like her mother, stubborn.”
Logan didn’t voice this out loud, as any mention of that person was uncomfortable.
“About the cuap…”
“Let’s wait until Julie returns to ask her about it.”
