Chapter 6
I didn’t know how Bradley had found me. But now, he was standing right in front of me, undeniably real. He had lost a lot of weight and his eyes were bloodshot.
He asked in a hoarse voice, “Yasmine, why are you doing this to me? Do you have any idea how hard I’ve worked to achieve what
I have today? Everything I did was for you, for our future happiness. Why did you ruin everything, why did you destroy me?”
I looked at him with some confusion. “Bradley, do you even believe the things you’re saying? You did this to yourself, you can’t blame anyone else.”
I quietly gazed into Bradley’s eyes, watching as his confident stance wavered and his gaze faltered. So, he knew what he did was wrong after all.
He started to explain, “I… Veronica and I really have nothing between us. To me,

she’s like a little sister. In my heart, you’re the only one who is my wife. I never intended to leave you for her.”
I understood. Bradley wouldn’t give me up for Veronica. And he wouldn’t give her up for me either.
He wanted a virtuous wife who would work hard and obey him and at the same time, he wanted a young lover to satisfy his desires. He wasn’t in love with some pure, innocent image of Veronica. He was in love with his selfish and greedy self.
“Bradley, what’s the point of telling me all this?” I was impatiently asked. “We’ve already broken up and called off the engagement. I returned the ring. From now on, I don’t care who you’re with, it’s none of my business.”
Bradley stubbornly grabbed my hand. “Yasmine, don’t be so heartless. We’ve been
together for seven years. How many seven years do you get in a lifetime?”

“I admit I made some mistakes before, but I’m willing to change for you. And besides, you won’t necessarily have a better life. without me. Don’t forget, your mother is still back in the country.” There was a faint threat in his words, but I was no longer afraid.
I pushed Bradley away in disgust. “I don’t care. She and I are bound by blood, so I’ll fulfill my legal obligation to support her at the minimum required level. But Bradley, what do we have between us?”
Love? Hate? There was nothing left.
The moment he cheated, everything
between us was gone.
During the time I’ve been living on my own, I’ve hardly thought of him at all.
The love I once had for him, so deep it was carved into my bones, seemed to have been worn away over the seven years we were together.
Our past and everything he once was, felt

like an old movie that had finished playing.
To me now, the past was the past and I was merely a spectator. None of it mattered anymore. Now, Bradley was the one who couldn’t let go.

He stared at me in disbelief, as if searching
face for traces of my love for him. “Yasmine, stop making a fuss and come back with me. You can clear up the misunderstandings and once things calm down, we’ll get married. I promise, I’ll treat you well.”
I couldn’t take it anymore and slapped him across the face. “Have you no shame? You came all this way, pretending to be sincere and saying sweet things, but all you really want is for me to help you clear your name.”
I retorted, “What’s your plan? Have me admit that I’m the other woman, take all
the blame and let you and Veronica live happily ever after?”

Bradley tried to explain, but I shut the door on him.
He immediately reached out to block the door, his fingers turning red from the pressure, yet he refused to let go. It was as if, if he let go, he would lose me forever.
“This is a foreign country. If you trespass, I could legally shoot you.” Upon hearing my threat, Bradley reluctantly withdrew his hand. As he left, he kept glancing back at me, as though he couldn’t bear to leave.
After Bradley left, I searched for news about him online. To my surprise, the scandal about his affair had blown up.
Veronica had always flaunted her connection with Bradley at the company, but now many people who had grievances against her were seizing the opportunity to drag her down. Everywhere she went, she was followed by rumors.
Unable to bear the pressure, she attempted suicide multiple times. Bradley had tried

everything to calm the situation, but nothing worked. In desperation, he had turned to me,
I smiled bitterly to myself. I knew it, Bradley hadn’t traveled all this way for me. In his heart, Veronica was always the most important.
I didn’t want to think about him anymore. and continued living my life as usual. But it seemed Bradley wasn’t willing to let me go.
Somehow, he showed up at my workplace every day, holding a bouquet of roses. He said, “Yasmine, you once said roses were your favorite. I promise to bring you a bouquet every day from now on. I’ll make up for everything I owe you from the past seven years.”
The vibrant roses, dotted with dewdrops, glistened in the sunlight like pearls turned into tears.
I didn’t take them. Squinting at the sun, I said, “Bradley, you never knew what I

wanted.”
What I wanted was never just a bouquet of flowers. I wanted a love that was sincere and pure. I wanted a life filled with true happiness.
But whether it was the flowers or love, I had waited seven years and never received it. Luckily, now I had found true happiness. that belonged to me alone.
So, for me now, his belated affections, blooming roses and the man I once loved, none of it mattered anymore.
“Yasmine, have I not treated you well all these years? I supported you and even took care of your crazy mother!” he yelled.
I sneered and held out my hands to Bradley.
