Effie’s POV.
I couldn’t believe him. I didn’t understand why he would leave everything behind just to stay here with me. And now he’s bringing his company close
to mine? And he even wants us working together?
I stopped as I neared Eli who stood by the car door and quickly pulls it open
for me.
I sensed Cain’s eyes watching me so I turned around and found him standing on his balcony, his hands on the rails as he looked down at me.

Looking away, I enter the car and Eli shut the door close.
The front door opens and he sits inside before igniting the car and driving out of the compound.
I never got the time to know Cain’s Beta properly, in fact this was the first time I was being

I’d seen him at the party earlier today for the very first time when he stood with Cain as they arrived.
I wanted to ask him a couple of questions because there were questions Cain would probably never answer.
His coming to London is extremely odd. I believe he had no idea about Ace until his arrival so something else must have brought him here.
“Why did Cain come here, Eli?” I asked him from the back seat, throwing a spear through the thickening silence.

“I’m sorry, I cannot say.” He replied quickly and discreetly “but you should know Effie, Cain is extremely happy, after he found out he had a son with you.”
“That’s not why he’s in London?” I ask him.
“No. I’m the one who stalked you and found out about your son for him, no offense.” He replied, his eyes quickly catching a glimpse of mine over the mirror before he looks down again.
“But I can say one thing, Effie,” he continues “The prince regrets everything he did to you. There was never a day that he didn’t regret everything he did. And he started looking for your immediately after you left. There’s a lot of things that happens back in our world that you do not understand Effie. Neither do I. And Neither does Cain. He may be an Alpha with a crown on his head but there’s very little he can do or say in some matters.”
I thought about what he just said for a moment. I felt there was more
than he’s letting on.
I tried to piece it up together. Is he trying to say that What Cain did to my pack, tearing it down, taking my sister captive, all he did without his will?
What kind of bullshit is that?
“Why is he in London, Eli?” I asked him again.

I’m met with an extremely excited Jessica, grinning ear to ear. She has an iPad in one hand, her second hand molded into a fit and towards the sky.
“Oh thank God you’re back!” She exclaims “I have something to show you.”
Not now, Jessica, I’m tired.” I told her as I dragged myself past her and towards the couch. Tonight has been too exhausting already. I’m not trying to add more to that.
“And what are you doing here by the way?” I added as I dumped my bag on the couch and sat down.
“Ah, I started looking for you back at the celebrity choice outfit‘ event. I was worried out of my mind! As your manager, if something happened to you I don’t know what I would tell the press! Or…,” she wiggles her brows at me… That hot sexy man you went off with. Yeah, I know. Megan told me!”

“Yes yes, but you need to see something.” She said as she quickly squrried over to me and placed the iPad in front of me. “I went to my page for your office and you won’t believe how many followers we’ve gained since the past three hours. Five hundred thousand! That’s huge!”

Ace looks at Jessica who stood behind us. Ace was fond of Jessica even though she wasn’t the biggest fan of children. But she manages well.
Jessica chuckles nervously, ” ah….. I should start going now….”
“Can I make the sandwich with her please?” Ace says.
“Of course honey.” I poked his soft cheek. I heard Jessica grunt under her breath before walking over.
“Come on Ace, Jessica needs to be home soon or the monsters would catch her on the lonely roads.” Jessica said dramatically as she pulled Ace towards the kitchen.
I watched them leave, smiling at her dumb joke. Then my smile faded quickly at the thought of that word.

I wondered, like I’ve always been wondering since having Ace, if he had the werewolf abilities at all.
He’s still a child and wouldn’t turn until the next few years to come so there was no way to know.
But it was too obvious that he doesn’t have any supernatural abilities. His hearing wasn’t heightened, neither was his sight. If they were, I would have known.
As I stepped into the elevator and went up, I hoped that I’d made the best choice five years ago.
And I hope it was the best choice for me, for Cain.
And most importantly, for Ace.
