I woke up the next morning from my phone buzzing from beneath my pillow. More like I jolted back to life.
My body literally felt like all my bones had somehow went through each other. Was that a wolf thing?
I felt extremely tired.
I slip my hand under my pillow and found my phone. Without checking the name, I picked it and placed over my

“You have a board meeting in less than ten minutes maam.”
I open my eyes now as Jessica’s voice seeped into me. Less than ten minutes?
“And Quorange called and were wondering if we could speed things up and make it to the hotel before 3? So you can get ready. I wanted to know if you needed me to cancel some of your meetings.”

3 p.m.
What is that?
“Jessica?” I called sleepily.
“Yes ma’am.” She replies quickly.

Putting the phone down, I turned around to find Ace’s sleeping face turned up towards me. He’s curled up between the Large duvet we were sharing and some pillows surrounding him. His blond hair is scattered on the pillow he had his head on, and his cheeks is pushed together, causing his pink lips to pout adorably.
I must have spent a better amount of my time watching him before leaning over and planting a gentle kiss on his forehead before getting off the bed.
In less than one hour, I was pulling up in front of my company, my attention getting caught by what was happening right across from me, just a few feet away.
I stepped out of my car as the gates slid close behind me and hurried back to watch from the bar lines of the gate.
The once abandoned skyscraper was being torn down, workers hovering around and taking debris out of the way.
I guess Cain was that serious? He really wants to start a company here and remain here with me? With us? Just then, I heard urgent foot steps approaching from behind me.
“Miss Genevieve, somebody’s waiting for you in your office!” Jessica calls as she stopped beside me.

im.” I hummed before turning and walking towards the entrance. I take the elevator up to my office but before I
could even reach my door, I could perceive his scent from halls away.
“What are you doing here, Cain?” I said as soon as I pushed my door open and found him standing over my window, one hand inside his pants pocket and the other hand holding on to a glass of wine as he overlooked the city from my window.
He turns around and plasters a smile I knew was fake on his face.
“Good morning Miss Genevieve.” He said mischievously, his smile quickly turning into a grin.
“I said what are you doing here?” I ask him again.
“I don’t know…. this view from your office, it’s wholesome, Effie! If I had to sit here all day long, I’d be distracted every fucking time.” He said jovially.
I didn’t understand why he was suddenly in such a big mood this morning. When I left his house last night, he didn’t seem so pleased with the responses I had to give him. And now he shows up at my office unannounced and plays nice and all?
Ignoring his talks, I walked over to my table and dropped off my bag.
“I have a board meeting now, Cain.” I told him as I fiddled with the papers on my desk. I don’t even know what I’m looking for, if I’m just going through my desk to stalk for time to talk with him. I’m sure Jessica already have everything I’ll be needing at the board table for me.
“Perhaps I could come?” Cain’s statement causes me to stop looking for nothing and stare at him.
“What? It would be fun. I mean, seeing that I’m new to all of this….” He was saying.
“New?” I cut him off “you’re a prince, Cain. You do this all the time.”
“I can stand to learn more from you, beautiful.”
I stood up and started walking out from behind my desk, attempting to leave the room. But before I could pull the

“Then have dinner with me. Please.” He says.
Was he asking me on a date?
Looking up at him, I tried to find the right words to say to him.
“This Saturday. I’ll pick you up. I.promise I won’t do anything that you don’t like. I promise.”

“I’m sorry Cain…. I have plans this Saturday…..” I muttered
Cain shrugs his shoulders and replies, “as long as this plan doesn’t involve another man, I can let you go. But Sunday? I researched this beautiful place and I think you’ll love Praying to the stars that you haven’t been there.”
I wanted to laugh at him. I didn’t know if he sucked at being cute or he was just being too good at it. But I nodded anyway, “okay. I’ll….. See you Sunday night then.”
As I walked out the door and joined Jessica, I wondered if saying no would have been the best thing to say.
I should be trying to keep Cain as far away from me and Ace as possible, not keep him close.
What am I even doing?
Once I entered into the board room, tired faces turned around to see me.
“I am so sorry everyone,” I said as I walked towards the board “traffic. The city is buzzing like a swam of bees. Please let’s get to it.”
My phone starts to ring and I checked to find the caller was Odeth.
I couldn’t take any calls right now as I’m in the middle of a meeting and I’m already late. But there was something about the ringing that felt urgent.
“One moment please.” I said to the group around the table, turned my back to them and picked the call.
“I’m in a meeting, Ode….“.
“We need to meet, Effie,” she cuts me off, her voice conspiratorially low “I need to tell you something.”
“Oh Odeth, I don’t know if I can meet you today. I’m having an event later….”
“This is about what you asked me to find for you the other time? About the time traveler?”
I stopped talking as the words reached me. This wasn’t the right time to talk over the phone if we wanted to.
“Okay. You know what? Why don’t you come to the event and we can meet later? We can go to a room and talk. I’ll send you the address and you can meet me there.”
“Okay. I’ll see you later.” She said before disconnecting the call.
