Chapter 20
Effie’s POV.
After my board meeting, most of my schedules were cancelled. I never saw Cain again after he came to my office in the morning. But the site was still under construction across from me.
Once it was 3 p.n, Quorange companies head make up and costume manager, Madeline drove up and picked me up.
From the back seat of the black Lamborghini, Madeline sits across from Jessica and 1.
“I would like to have someone allowed into the building later on, Madeline,” I said to Madeline whose complete focus was on the fashion dashboard in her hands. She looks up to see me. “My friend is coming over to see me, her name is Odeth and I would like her to be let in.”
Giving me a lip lined smile, Madeline replies “done.”
I nodded with a smile, just in time for my stomach to rumble. I’ve barely eaten anything all day.
Sure I did have my regular lunch break by 12 p.m earlier but I’d spent the time in my office, trying to watch Cain’s skyscraper from across, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
Then I had Jessica bring me some cake afterwards and I couldn’t even stomach the entire cup Madeline quickly looks at me as my stomach grumbled, her eyes silently questioning.
I chuckle sheepishly and said, “I didn’t have the time to eat lunch.”
“I should order you lunch when we get to Matté Del Mansioné. I’ll just make the call right now.”
cake.
Before I could say anything, not that I wanted to, she picks up her phone from the side and tapped. The sound of the line ringing fills the space for a second before the other person picked from his end.
“Hello.” A male voice answers from the other end.
“Um hi, this is Madeline speaking. I need you to have some food ready at miss Genevieve’s room right now, we’re almost there.”
“Okay…” The man said from the background.
Madeline takes the phone from her ear to speak to me. “What would you like? American, Japanese, Indian…”
“Um…. I’ll take any Japanese?”
She nods and puts the phone back on her ear. “Prepare a delicious Japanese fish. Throw in soup.” She said to him. “Yes ma’am.” And the call disconnected.
After a few more minutes, the car pulled up before the big mansion.
Matté Del Mansioné was one of the biggest buildings in the entire London. It was owned by one of the very rich and famous American Japanese families, a retired lieutenant Kong Yoko and his very largely extended family.
The building was first built in the early 90s as just a place for the large family dinner to meet occasionally and for holidays. Children and grandchildren would meet here to bond over the years and the right to the building was continually passed down to each heir until reaching the now old Kong Yoko.
But over the years, the building had been renovated and expanded into a public spot to not just anybody but to very
important people around the world to host events like this one.
According to what Jessica had told me yesterday, from whatever article she said she digged up, the place was now under the care and supervision of Kong Yoko’s “beautiful” -as she put it- grandson, Ezekiel Yoko San.
Ezekiel according to Jessica, was a divorcee from an eight years marriage and he was merely just in his very early
thirties.
News had it that Ezekiel Yoko San caught his wife, a Minister’s daughter in bed with another man at a downtown hotel three years ago and out of guilt, she filed for a divorce, leaving their seven years old daughter with him.
But this aside, Ezekiel still trived in his many businesses and is one of the richest grandsons in his family as well is within his peers.
Not that this information mattered in any way but Jessica wouldn’t stop going over the fact that we would be going to this mansion for the auctioning today.
The expansion of the mansion now included a spa section just above the entire floor, with a great view of the entire city all for the sole purpose of relaxation.
At some certain corner was a ballet class. Matté Del Mansioné has been known to produce one of the very best bellet dancers across the world.
The mansion was also a semi hotel with at least one hundred and fifty rooms.
And the whole thing is designed in a way where residents are not disturbed by whatever was happening on any other section of the room.
As the car pulled up before the red carpet thrown out of the entrance door up to the road, I watched the gigantic building from the window in awe.
Now I understood why Jessica was so excited about this auctioning.
I have only ever seen this building when I searched them online and only ever heard of all the good things about it. I have never been inside the building and thanks to my collaboration with the Blogwood companies, I am able to be here
too.
And not just as a nobody or a mere spectator, but as one of the very important guests.
“My God.” Jessica gasps beside me, her hand dramatically placed on her chest as she watched the building too.
Madeline chuckles lightly and said “yeah, I get that all the time too. Come on”
The door opened and she steps out before us.
The first lobby we entered is quiet so we proceeded into the elevator. After a few flight, the doors slid open and we got of at a different lobby.
Madeline leads us into a narrow hall where a door clicked open automatically and we walked inside.
The suite room is wide and
very
beautiful.
There’s couches everywhere, and the bed is king sized.
Madeline moves over to the side and started making a phone call. Just then, a tap came on the door before they slid oper and a man pushed in a cart.
On the cart, there’s assorted food that I could only see properly until the man I assumed to be from the kitchen department started setting them on a table just before the bed.
“Your Japanese delicacies, ma’am.” The man said with a bow of his bead before ushering the cart out again.
I stopped for a moment to think. I didn’t understand why I was being given all this treatments. First I’m brought into one of the finest suits in this building and now I’m being treated to a meal like this?
Yesterday was the day that I showcased the outfit at the event Today was for the auctioning of the dress which doesn’t really have anything much to do with me anymore so why am I even here in the first place?
It’s not like I’m the one being auctioned. Yeah, bad joke I know.
I turned gently to Madeline who is now hurrying towards the other room.
“Um Madeline,” I call her to a stop “I’m just wondering, why am I in this suite room and getting….. all of this?” I tried to be as polite as possible, putting on a long grin that didn’t even reach my eyes.
Madeline gives me a small smile before responding, “oh I didn’t tell you earlier. All this is courtesy of Mr Moretti.”
My smile fades instantly.
Blinking quickly, I asked “as in Nathan Moretti?”
“No, the father. Miles Moretti.” She adds before walking away
I was confused for a few seconds. I didn’t understand why Mr Moretti himself will go this extra for me. Now it all made
sense.
I turned around to see an equally confused Jessica who is now seated on the edge of the bed.
She gives me a shrug of her shoulders before proceeding to point at the food seated in front of her, her eyes pleasing fo
us to eat.
I sigh softly before going over to sit with her.
After eating, Madeline’s make up team came into the room to get me ready for the event.
We spent a considerable amount of time doing my make up before we hurried towards the auctioning room.
I was practically stuck between wearing the red LBD dress and the black corset dress Madeline picked out for me. After much needed contemplation, I went with the LBD.
As we walked into the room, I found that the room was already fully occupied.
The first thing that I did was search through the faces of the crowd.
I didn’t know what exactly I was looking for, but somehow deep inside me, for a split second there, I hoped to catch a glance of Cain’s face on one of those seats.
Not that I don’t think him buying that dress would be wholesomely awkward and stupid on so many levels.
Yuki Kim stood on stage, behind the podium as the addressed the crowd.
A few feet next to him stood the dress is worn yesterday, in a beautiful show glass.
I was stunned by the number of audience here just to purchase that dress.
One of the urshers standing around ushers me to my seat.
