Chapter 23
Cain’s POV
I knew something was off about Effic the moment I noticed her standing around the corner, talking with Miles Moretti. Everything about that man didn’t sit well enough with me.
As I watched them talk, whilst trying hard to listen to their conversation with my heightened hearing, even though I have been having difficulties with that since losing my shifting ability, I retrieved my phone from my side pocket and texted Eli.
“I need you to find anything you can on Miles Moretti.”
I felt a hand land on my shoulder and I turned to see a very delighted Mr Blogwood, a very big smile on his lips.
“Cain!” He calls me. “What has gotten your attention so much, I wonder.”
His eyes travels over to where Effie and Mr Miles Moretti stood talking, a short laughter escaping his lips as he looks back at me and said “I see you’ve become very fund of my girl, Miss Genevieve.”
I tried to give him the kind of smile you give when you’ve been caught watching a woman you’ve been having a crush on for quite too long.
It literally reminded me of the time Eli caught me watching Leona, daughter of one of my father’s council men at the town’s square. I remember wanting so badly for her to notice me then. But I was merely a young prince then.
“Do you perhaps know her before?” He adds.
“Of course not, Mr Blogwood. Miss Genevieve is a very fine woman.”
“I mean, I can help you with that any time.” He jokes, causing me to chuckle softly.
“It has been days since our last meet, Mr Malachi,” he continues “and I must say that I haven’t heard from those hoodlums who attacked people.”
Giving him a straight, business face, I said “I told you I would handle it Mr Blogwood.”
“Mr Malachi.” Yuki Kim calls as he joins us, a rather pleasant look on his face.
“We haven’t met properly,” he said as he extends his hand out for me for a handshake. “I’m Yuki Kim.”
I shake his hand, saying “I assume you already know me.”
“Yes. Even without meeting you yesterday, Mr Blogwood never stopped talking about you,” he said with a long smile “and I myself would like to get acquainted with you soon.”
“I’ve also heard a lot about you,” I told him honestly “I hear you are in connection with the family that owns Matté Del Mansioné.”
“One of the many grandsons, actually.”
That is rather interesting. I knew about Matté Del Mansioné long before coming to London, since I was a boy, long before my coronation.
My father has had many travels in the human world and he told me a few of his travels. From him, I got to know about the infamous Kong Yoko San who was originally the sole owner of the building until his passing it down to his grandson, Ezekiel Yoko San. Does that make Yuki Kim his brother? A distant cousin? A nephew?

I feel like this family tree needed studying.
“And, I am sorry about my partner’s outburst concerning the dress earlier,” Yuki said with a sly smile “he can be very……. Outspoken sometimes.”
I sensed a kind of aura around this man. He looked quiet and acted very delicate and gentle. He smiles ninety percent of the time. Chances of catching him while he wasn’t smiling were slim.
He seemed like the kind of man who had many faces and only showed you one, the kind of man you wouldn’t see coming.
And to make everything even more confusing, I couldn’t sense anything bad about him. He seemed to be purely nice. And very easygoing.
“I take no offense, Mr Kim, I know the dress is a very interesting piece and people would kill even, to get it.”
Mr Blogwood erupts into a deep laughter.
Just then, I saw Effie hurrying out the back door.
“Excuse me” I said to them before leaving them and hurrying after her.
Bumping into Effie wasn’t the problem. The problem was the kind of fear I saw in her eyes, felt in her body when I touched her.
Aknew I was a dick earlier when I went on about all the crap I said about that dress, but I couldn’t get past the unease in her eyes.
“Effie your eyes…”
Something was definitely off about her because her eyes were turning golden yellow and I sensed she was going to shift into her wolf form any time from now. And that was bad.
“I’m not doing that.” Her voice is vulnerable. “Somebody’s in danger.”
I didn’t understand what she meant by that but I suddenly felt the urge to protect her. And make her feel safe. As I walked her back into the room, a wave of scent washed over me. And I recognized the scent immediately.
“Eli” I mind linked Eli immediately as Effie and I reached a table at the corner of the room.
“I’m right outside,” he mind links back “and you would not believe this.”
“I’m coming right out.” I mind linked back.
Turning back to Effie, I said “Effie, I need you to stay here. I’ll be right back.”
Effie senses the urgency in my voice and the change in my face, and said “where are you going?”
Hesitantly, I lowered my voice and told her “there are lycans here. And they’re dangerous people. I need you to stay here okay?”
“What? Lycans? How? What are they….”
“Apparently, they’re looking for some time traveler. Stay here ” I added commandingly with gritted teeth before dashing out of the room.
“Where are you?” I mind linked Eli as I passed by the lobby and entered the elevator.
“At the back. Garage area.”

I pushed the button to take me to the down floor. Once I stepped out of the elevator, I took a stair that lead me down to the garage, my hands loosing the tie around my neck, something I do when I feel too stressed about something. Or when I’m upset.
I burst out to the large garage and quickly saw Eli standing, his hand turned to me as he faced the three men from the other time. The door of the garage leading outside has already been pushed up, revealing the outside darkness. Was this how they intended to get into the building?
From the looks on their faces, they don’t look so pleased to be seeing me again today.
“Look who it is again, the Titan prince.” The leader whose name I’m still trying to remember spat.
“If it isn’t Dewayne and brothers,” I said mockingly as I stopped next to Eli “don’t tell me you still haven’t found your gatekeeper.”
Dewayne steps forward, away from his brothers and watched me face to face. There was so much anger in his eyes.
“She is inside that party of yours,” he grunts “and I am going to retrieve her.”
She’s in there? Was that what I overheard Effie and that girl talking about?
Giving him a straight face, I said “I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna let you go into that party, ‘Dwayne” added extra emphasis to his name so he understood that I meant my word.
He may be intimidating as he could ever be, and have all the fire and anger in his eyes, and I may have lost most of my abilities to be a true lycan, but I’m not going to let him inside that party.
I will protect Effie from him. From everything. His presence in there would only trigger her wolf and that would be bad for her and all of us.
Besides, was he going to go in there and start looking at everyone until he finds this person of interest of his?
He takes an intimidating step towards me until he was a step closer to me, Eli quickly standing in front of me to prevent him from reaching me. But he was nearly a head taller than Eli and I that he easily looked behind Eli’s head to see
- me.
“You can’t stop me, Prince.” He spat in our faces.
The audacity. I could literally feel the blood boiling underneath my skin.
Stepping back, I retrieved a pistol from my belt and pointed it at him, my eyes seriously watching him.
“Leave. Now.” I told him.
He waits a moment, then chuckles softly and said “you really think that little thing can make me leave?
I cracked the trigger and aimed at his head, then said “there’s silver bullet inside this gun Dewayne, you can choose to die that way.”
Right then, the other two of his men standing far behind started shifting.
I pull the trigger and shot at Dewayne but he quickly moves out of the way, the bullet catching one of his men from behind.
He let’s out a shrieking pain as he fell back on the floor. The second man is now fully shifted into his wolf form but I’m too distracted by Dewayne who is now running for the stairs.
“Go! I’ll take care of him!” Eli said as he quickly shifted.

Without wasting another minute, I ran towards the stairs and fired a shit at him, but he dodged it again. He’s just too
Dewayne makes it up the stairs. I tried to catch him but failed. Apparently the lobby is still empty safe for the woman standing behind the reception desk.
Dewayne dashes past her towards the elevator fastly, causing her to scream in fear. I dashed past her but Dewayne had found a way to go behind the elevator with his sharp claws, climbing the elevator shaft so he could get up faster.
I notice a woman coming into the lobby, a small boy holding onto a big Venetian mask. I couldn’t risk anyone in that room seeing me fighting a man.
So I hurried over to the little boy and snatched the mask from him.
“I’ll bring this back!” I said to him quickly before dashing into the elevator and running up the stairs whilst trying the mask around my face protectively.
Halfway up the stairs, I jumped off onto each mezzanine to reach the floor quicker. I pulled off my suit along the way, leaving my white button down on.
As I reached the floor, I heard screams from the room before storming into the room, my eyss quickly scanning every spot for him.
The room is in chaos as everyone ran around the room. That’s when I caught sight of Dewayne as he knocked a table out of the way.

My eyes glowed behind the mask, anger enveloping me. I ran into the room, jumping over tables as I tried to reach
As soon as I neared him, I pulled my hand back and punched him in the face. He staggered back and tried to regain his stance but I threw him another punch, which he caught with his palm.
He squeezes my palm and turned my arm until I was summersaulting and falling on the table, glasses shattering everywhere.
Just then, I heard a loud grunt as one of the lycans landed on a table next to me, Eli’s wolf flying over him in a fight.
I stood up quickly and moved threw punches at Dewayne without stopping until he landed on the floor. I continued to
beat him.
I rose up to try to find Effie as Dewayne remained on the floor, trying to get a hang of his consciousness.
I didn’t see her.
Blood rushed through my veins as fear gripped me. Where was she in all this chaos?
As my eyes wondered around the room, I nearly missed her as she stood perched to the wall, her eyes color starting to change as she watched the scene before her.
This was bad.
“Eli, leave him. Let’s get out of here!” I mind linked Eli who was still beating up the wolf.
I hurried over to Effie and picked her into my arms bridal style and dashed out of the door and into the elevator.
Before I dashed out, I saw Eli’s wolf through the corner of my eyes as he jumped off the window.
As I reached the floor, I dashed into the garage and forced a car’s door open and put Effie inside.

“I’m getting you out of here.” I said to her as I dashed inside and tried to start the car. My car was still parked somewhere around this building and I couldn’t go get it. I couldn’t risk anybody seeing me walk out of this place with Effic in my arms. This was the best side to leave from, with a different car too.
“Odeth…. She’s still in there…” Effie says.
“You cannot go back in there, Effie, it’s not safe for you,” I told her as the car finally started “and I’m sure she has found a way to leave the building. She’ll be fine.”
Then I drove the car out through the back of the building
