Chapter 27
Roselle’s POV

I stood next to my door window the entire day until dusk sets in. Camille has been around the entire day keeping me company. Samuel never showed up and it was just better that way.
Some minutes ago, Camille had informed me about the shortage of food and that he would like to drive down the grocery store to buy some things. I thought quickly in that instant. I still haven’t seen any guards since the last time I was here. The only person appearing to be in this house with me after doctor Eugene left was Camille alone.
If I wanted to leave, this was the perfect time to do so and had the best plan.
Camille didn’t sleep here. She merely just comes around to attend to me and leave. I expected that she probably has a car that she drives in and out in every day.
“Um…. Please can you please make me some coffee?” I said last minute as that was the only thing I thought of in that moment. I wanted to stall for time.
“I…. It helps with stress for me….. When I was in school…” I added with a soft chuckle.
“Ah….” Camille mutters and nods “okay I’ll be right back.”
I watched her walk out, leaving the door open. I needed to think of something quickly. If she locked that door when she leaves then my hopes of getting out of here would be gone. I needed to find a way to make her leave the door unlocked or just pray that she doesn’t lock it when leaving.
I tried to think of something to say. Once she started coming back, I hurried over to the bed, giving her a smile as she approached me with a cup of coffee. I hope she didn’t notice how jumpy I was..
“Um…. I don’t see the guards anymore…” I said as I put the cut to my lips.
“Oh they’re just out of the house. It seems Mr Samuel Curtez has something going on.” She replies with a cheerful smile “I’ll leave now.” She adds, attempting to turn around but I quickly stop her.
“Please can I sit down stairs today!” I quickly spoke, bringing her to a stop before she even turned around.
“Um… I’ve been in this room for weeks, Camille and it’s really getting me sick. I just wanna sit down and get some air. This room is suffocating.” I told her, putting up my sympathetic eyes.
Camille sighs before replying, “you know you’re not allowed anywhere outside your room, Roselle. Especially not when

“No! You should go do your thing. I just really wanna step out. I mean, Samuel isn’t around right? It can just be between the two of us.”

Camille watches me seriously, as if trying to see through my plans. My heart beats a few times as I waited for her to
“No. I can’t do that Rose. He gave his order and I cannot cross him.” Camille said.
“Camille,” I quickly reached for her hand “I can’t keep living like this. I won’t try anything stupid, I know what Samuel is capable of doing already. I feel sick already, I’ll probably be back in bed before you get back. I promise.”
Camille watches me for a much longer time again. I was definitely putting her in the wrong position here but I’m going
to do what I have to do to get out of here. And there’s absolutely no going back now.
“Alright.” She said “but if Samuel finds out in any way at all that you were out of the room, better find something better

to tell him that won’t implicate me.”
I nodded “you don’t have to worry about that, Camille”
I’m not even coming back here.

I followed Camille out and down the stairs. I quickly settled down on the couch, coffee still in hand and waited for her to leave the room. As I heard the door shut close, I hurried over to the glass walls and watched her walk to a mustard Toyota car. It was an old model Toyota. It wouldn’t be hard getting into without a key.
After a while, I hurried back into my room and dashed into the closet. I looked for something to wear. I ended up wearing a soft faded blue jeans trousers and a yellow top. I found black sneakers on the shoe shelf and pulled it on.
I grabbed a different duvet from the shelf and hurried back to the bed. I pulled the duvet on the bed away and folded the the duvet underneath it, then piled more pillows upwards and downwards.
I stepped back and watched the form of the pillows covered under the duvet and try to imagine how Camille would see it if she walked into the room. I needed it to look more realistic.
I hurry back into the closet and rummaged through every shelf and draw. Then I came across a black wig. It was a straight hair, which didn’t match my hair but I didn’t think that mattered enough.
I walked back and put it on the pillow, pulling up the duvet a little bit to cover half of it. Then I pulled my hair into a ponytail and dashed out.
As soon as I stepped down the stairs, I saw Camille’s car pulling up into the compound. Gasping fearfully, I quickly hid behind a large pillar that separated the kitchen from the sitting room.
I heard the door click open as Camille stepped in.
“Roselle?” She calls. She probably expected to meet me at the couch where she left me.
“Rose!” She calls a little louder as she goes into the kitchen. I heard the sound of shopping bags so I assumed she was probably arranging the grocery in its place.
Then I heard her walking towards the stairs. As soon as I saw her out of sight, I dashed for the door and pulled it open, the night breeze hitting my face.
I pulled the back door handle and found it wasn’t locked so I quickly pushed myself inside and shut the door. The boot of her car has an opening from the inside so I quickly jumped inside and laid down.
room.
As quickly as I did, I heard the driver’s door open as Camille sat inside. She probably thought I was fast asleep in my
This is how I escape. I placed my hand over my nose and mouth to stop my haggard breathing.
The car continued on a quiet road after a while. As I laid down inside that booth, I thought of ways to get out of the car before Camille reached wherever she was going.
We passed the pain streets already where I heard voices around. Now she seemed to have taken a lonely path.
I slowly rose up and peeked out to see Camille still driving, completely unaware of my presence in her car.
I knew trying to get her to stop the car and letting me off wouldn’t work. She would take me back to the mansion before I even get a word out. The only thing that I needed to do right now was to fight her to come to a stop. I’m not prepared to die tonight and I’m pretty sure she wasn’t too.
I slowly pulled myself from the back and onto the seat.

Camille looks back immediately as she heard a sound. Or maybe she saw me through the rare view mirror.
“What the fuck, Rose!” She calls, shocked.
I didn’t give her a chance to say any more word as I went over her and grabbed her hands on the steering wheel
“What are you doing?!” She screams as she tried to steady the car on the road.
“Stop the car!” I screamed back but she doesn’t. So I just continued to drive the wheel with her.
“Get off me!” She screams at me.
“Stop the fucking car!” I scream back.

The next thing I felt was her head hitting my nose from the back. I fell back on the seat and crouched my nose with my hand. Camille tries to bring the car back to the road but I quickly move over her again and grabbed the steering wheel, turning it around.
“Let go Rose!” Camille screams. From ahead, I noticed a bridge approaching. I knew I needed to jump off this car right now before we reached that bridge.
I’ve never driven a car before so I didn’t even know how to slow the car’s speed down. The only thing that I could do at that moment was to continue struggling with the wheel with her
“Fucking stop this car!” I scream back at her. “Now!”
I felt the car hit a bump so I quickly pushed my feet on the brake.
But that was the wrong thing to do.
