Chapter 42
Effie’s POV
Cain’s car comes to an abrupt stop in front of my house and I don’t wait before kicking off his car and flying up to the steps.
My nerves fray as I pushed the door open, my eyes quickly scanning everywhere for a possible threat.. I knew there was none as soon as we pulled up, my wolf would have sensed if there was any.
After the attack at that cabin, my mind hasn’t been settled. My mind kept wondering why Cain didn’t beat them up like a true Alpha would, like I imagine he should have. An Alpha who happens to be of the Titan blood. According to what I’ve heard, the mountain wolves have some unique skills that normal lycans didn’t posses. Thus the reason behind their title ‘titan‘ as they were said to possess ‘godly powers.
I didn’t know Cain much but I assumed he possessed some of those powers. Before I laid my eyes on him for the first time under that volcano, I’d heard stories about him. He was called the Prince of Darkness and Lord of the Titans. Rumor had it at the time that he was a fearless soldier and a mighty warrior who won countless wars across borders.
I always imagined him to be just the exact man I met that day under the volcano. Now as I take sharp corners through my house, I’m left to ponder on everything that happened back at the cabin.
“Effic, you’re hurt….” He calls after me as he dashed into the house with me.
I winced in pain and held on to my side.
“I need to see if Ace is fine!” I told him, worry consuming me whole.
I didn’t know who those men that attacked us were and they seemed to have had personal business with Cain. or it could have been me. That puts my son in danger too.
I pushed Ace’s door open to find an empty room. Everything in his room is in order as I try to look for any possible scater through his things which could lead me to know if those men had been in the house.
As I turned back and hurried back out, tears stung my eyes and I couldn’t help blaming myself for leaving his side. I haven’t confirmed if he was alright or in danger but I felt scared. I shouldn’t have left him and wondered off with Cain from his school yesterday.
I call out for his nany but got silence for a response.
I couldn’t find my phone anywhere so I quickly hurry over to the draw table close to the living room window where the telephone sat and I tried dialing his school’s number.
It rings for a while and I hold my breath, waiting for the voice that comes after.
Nothing. Until the line goes flat.
Just as my anxiety started to reach it’s peak, I felt Cain’s calming hands drop to my shoulder and he pulled me closer to himself.
I let out a sigh of relief instantly and sank into his warm body, seeking his solace. His arms move over my shoulder, fondling me further into his body protectively.
“Ace is fine, Effie….” He whispers reassuringly into my ear.
I shake my head negatively “I shouldn’t have left him yesterday….”
“Shhh…..”
Just then, I heard the door bell ring, causing me to shudder in surprise. I look up at Cain and he quickly releases me.
“It’s Eli.” He replies my unasked question.
I felt my heart beat slower instantly and I made for the door, pulling it open to find Ace standing in front of Eli, his doe eyes looking up at the door as I pull it open.
“Mommy!” He calls joyously, racing into me and hugging my stomach.
“Ace…” I call with relief, my hands holding his head closer to myself. “My goodness you’re okay.”
He pulls away and says “uncle Eli here took me out to get ice cream yesterday after we left school,” he points at Eli who stood protectively behind him “then he took me to a really nice tower house with really cool security systems that he showed me! He told me my mommy had a business to attend to and said I can trust him and I spent the night with him. He also called Nana to spend the night with me so I could sleep better.”
A soft laugh escapes my lips and I hugged him tighter, giving Eli an appreciative nod before ushering Ace inside.

Chapter 42
I saw Cain standing at the bar counter, his eyes watching me with glee. Ace hurries away towards his room, excited about whatever adventures he and Eli had been up to while we were gone.
“I told you I would protect him.” Cain says with a smile flirting on his lips as I approach him, his arms spreading slightly for a hug.
With my face flushing red, I hug him and he wrapped his arms securely around me.
The thought of Ace coming right back out and catching us in this position forces me to pull away from him.
I move out of the room, leaving Cain and Eli to catch up on their business. I went up to my room, trying to ingest everything that happened this morning. I turned on the shower and let the sound of the water drench out my thoughts.
I tried to figure out who those men were. Was it just coincidence that some lycans came into the cocktail night and caused chaos just a few days back? Then some lycans finds that cabin out in that woods? It couldn’t have been a coincidence.
And the way they tried to attack me? I’d thought I’d left this side of my life behind when I crossed that gate. When I had Ace. Even though
I always knew I was just lying to myself. Especially not when I had Cain’s son, Ace.
I knew sooner or later, I need to have the talk with Cain concerning Ace but I didn’t think I was ready for that yet.
But there were more pressing matters to discuss with him right now. Matters like why those men tried to kill me and if he knew them.
As I step out of the shower, a towel that barely covered my butt wrapped around my torso, I hear a faint tap on my door. By the time I made it out into my bedroom, I saw Cain standing next to the door, his back leaning back against the wall, his hands dipped into his pockets, one leg crossed over the other.
If I hadn’t sensed his presence before walking out, I’d have probably jumped out of my skin seeing him stand there like that.
I knew he’d just seen my body a few hours ago but I couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable under his gaze.
I reach out to hold my towel securely around my bossoms, walking over to my dresser table and facing the mirror, Cain’s reflection watching me.
He just continues to watch me as I pull the bunnet holding my hair in place, allowing them fall over my back and across my shoulders.
Taking a deep breath, hoping to zone out the deafening silence stretching throughout the room, I speak “we need to talk Cain…”
Looking back up at the mirror from setting the bonnet on its kit on the table, I find Cain has closed the distance between us and is now standing right behind me, taking me by surprise.
I turn around quickly, only to find myself crashing into his chest, his arms going around my arms and holding me in place.
“Cain….” I manage to call him as his eyes continue to watch my face.
His eyes move over me so sharply, they feel like a physical caress, and I find myself shivering in response. It’s the strangest reaction, and he doesn’t miss it, but he doesn’t respond to it either.
The silence that built up around us was so thick you could almost cut through with scissors. The only thing that was possibly still moving at that short moment were his eyes roaming over my face and the vein underneath my skin as they pulsated harshly.
I try to move back but the dresser table prevents any more room for me, so I stand there, caged between his body and his firing gaze.
I’m left to remember everything that happened last night, something I never got the chance to do as we woke up.
Right now, everything replayed in my head as our eyes locked. I could see vividly how his hands caressed my body, how they pinched my nipples, how his lips moved in perfect synch with mine, how he whispered everything he said he would do to me in my ears, how his mouth tortured my nipples until I became a mess of pleas. And how he felt inside of me.
- me.
How he took care of me.
As the events replayed in my head, clouding my thoughts, I watched his face move closer to mine, his eyes fixed on my quivering lips.
When his lips met mine, I shook under him. Either it’s because of the amount of cold radiating off his lips or the feelings his touch gave
His lips barely grazed mine before he started to pull back, and I almost didn’t know I’d started moving my face to reach him until the distance he created between us became lengthy and I stop mid way, my neck outstretched to reach him.

I open my eyes to see him, finding a cocky smile on his lips, his eyes darting with pleasure as they watched me.
My breathing intensifies as the thought of him being so close yet I can’t seem to reach him hit me hard.
When I thought he was completely leaving after successfully teasing me, I feel his hands glide over my thighs, his fingers digging into my

thighs before he pulled me up against him.
I gasp uncontrollably, just in time for him to pull me up and place me back on top of the dresser table.
I instantly become a mess of gasps as his lips forcefully crashed against mine, kissing me harshly, like a hungry man. His right hand goes over to brush my hairs behind my head, aggression in every kiss. His lips works over mine like some fine art only he mastered, his other hand traveling in between my legs.
Once I felt them right in front of my clitts, I shudder against his touch and he quickly stops, as if waiting for me to adjust to his touch, before his thumb went further, caressing and stimulating.
I path my legs wider for him, my moans and his groans filling our mouth.
Everything surrounding me seemed to have jammed together inside my head and blurred out, the only thing I was aware of being the electric feeling I was feeling sparkling all around my body.
Cain pulls away from me, his eyes going over to watch mine. He knew exactly where he got me right now. He knew that I wanted him just as bad right now.
“God I want you so bad….” He whispers huskily.
I wanted to tell him that we couldn’t. Not while Ace is the house but I didn’t know how to say them. I feared my mouth would betray me and say the exact opposite of what I intend to say. So I’m rendered to just watching him, hoping he would take control of everything.
I’m forced out of my thoughts when I heard clicking shoes approaching my door and I knew exactly who it was.
Jessica.
I push Cain away from me immediately, forgetting she couldn’t barge into the room without knocking first.
A very distressed voice follows after a gentle tap on the door, “Miss Genevieve? I have been ringing your phone!” “Um…..hold on! I’ll be right there….” I call out desperately, moving quickly to find a robe from my walk in closet.
I hurry back out to find Cain’s eyes threaded on me, a mocking smile on his lips.
I try to ignore him.
“Chill baby, are you scared of being caught with me?” There’s so much mockery in his voice. He was enjoying seeing me in this situation.
I hurry out through the sharp corner that leads to the door to my room and pulled the door open, coming face to face with a very distressed Jessica.
Jessica’s face holds a lot of worry, her eyes wide open and relief crossing her face as I answered the door.
“You need to come to the office now,” she says breathlessly “there’s something you need to see.”
I turn around to see Cain, him too giving me a surprise look to Jessica’s news.
“Oh my goodness.” Jessica says with a gasp and I quickly look back to find her gaping inside the room, obviously stunned to be seeing Cain in my room.
Now I understood how awkward and misleading this situation was.
But misleading though?
