Chapter 6: Found a Replacement?
“I need to formally apologier for my impulsive and irrational behavior back then. I owe her that.”
Raina nearly choked on her drink. She coughed a couple of times, her face full of reluctance.“Please spare me, a
“You know very well that the only course I ever failed a make–up exam for in college was Professor Mia White’selective. I always feel nervous whenever I see her. Besides, I’m just a nobody. The professor might not even remember who I am. I really can’t help you”
Seeing Raina’s aversion, Summer didn’t push it.
“However, Raina had a sly look in her eyes and changed the topic. “I do happen to have a suitable persen.”
“Remember my cousin, Jack Camaron?” –
Summer took a sip of water and nodded.
Jack Camaron, the youngest leading physicist in the country. Last year, he topped the list of the ten young scientists who influenced the world rated by the “Nature” magazine.
He had studied under Professor Mia White as an undergraduate majoring in applied bioscience. He published five SCI papers in just two year and was highly regarded as a genius in the biological field.
Later, for some unknown reason, he suddenly had the whim to change his major across disciplines and went to study physics instead.
It had caused quite a stir at that time.
As it turned out, if a person is truly capable, he can succeed in whatever field he chooses
Now, Jack Camaron had already become a significant figure in the international physics community.
Summer Miller and Jack Camaron were from the same school but different cohorts, so she was his junior.
When she first entered the university, she had heard the legends about Jack Camaron Later, after getting to know Raina Camaron, she found out that Jack Camaron was her cousin.
He’d worked at a physics research institute abroad for years, returning to America three months ago.
“My cousin asked about the Professor’s condition the other day, but he’s been swamped. It would be perfect for you two to go together.”
The more Raina thought about it, the more appropriate it seemed. She immediately dialed Jack’s number.
After two rings, the call was connected.
Summer Miller heard a deep voice coming from the other end, carrying a hint of coldness and formality.“What is it?”
Raina explained briefly.
The background was noisy. He seemed to be very busy and hung up the phone in less than a minute.
“Done! My brother asked you to meet him at West Coast Restaurant tomorrow at two. You can talk about it then.”
Raina squeezed Summer’s hand “Get a good night’s sleep. We’ll talk tomorrow.
Summer nodded. Thank you. I understand.”
The next day.
Summer Miller left half an hour earlier.
When she arrived at the restaurant, she raised her hand to check her watch. There were still two minutes left until two o’clock.
It was neither too early nor too late. Perfect timing.
She pushed the door open and went in. The waiter led her for a while, and when she looked up, she saw the man sitting by the window.
He tilted his head and was drinking coffee with an indifferent look on his face.
He was dressed in a simple white shirt and black trousers, with a pair of gold–rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose. The sunlight fell on his side face, making it look like an independent oil painting.

In contrast, she was wearing a white T–shin, jeans, and a high ponytail, with no makeup on. Well, it did seem a bit too casual.
Feeling Summer’s gate, the man
turned his head.
“Sit. What would you like to drink?”
His magnetic voler, with a touch of a tingling sensation, entered her ears. Summer Miller came to her senses and pulled out the chair opponite
him and sat down
“Sorry to have kept you waiting.”
The girl’s obsidian–like pupils showed a bit of apology.
Jack pushed his glasses up and said in a calm tone, “It’s not that long. I only arrived five minutes early myself. There are still several sers of data to be processed in the laboratory, so I can only spare you thirty minutes today, Is that enough?
“Yes”
A waiter approached, and Summer ondered lemonade.
Jack got straight to the point. “Regarding visiting Professor Mia White, what do you expect me to do
Quite unexpectedly straightforward.
Summer appreciated his no–nonsense attitude. “Professor White is out of the hospital, but I don’t know her address. I hope you can take me to see her. And if possible…”
Her eyes flickered. “When the Professor gets angry, could you please help persuade her? Well, getting angry is bad for one’s health.“||
Hearing this, the man seemed to curve the corners of his mouth slightly.
Summer continued. “I know you’re busy, so you can decide on the time.”
Jack nodded.“Alright, let’s make it two days from now.”
Summer thanked him.
Holding her lemonade, she suddenly asked, “Why are you willing to help me?”
Jack’s dark and shiny eyes looked at her. After a while, just when Summer Miller thought he wouldn’t answer, the man said, “Because you’re
Summer Miller”
Summer:“What?”
Professor White once said,” he sipped his coffee, up to now, she has three regrets in life. One is that the world of scientific research is so vast while life is too short. The second is that she has no children. And the third is–Summer Miller.
Summer froze, her nails digging into her palm.
looked directly at her with somewhat sharp eyes, and a deep sense of inquiry and scrutiny flashed in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared and became calm again.
This was his first time meeting Summer Miller, but it wasn’t the first time he had heard her name.
What was so special about a girl who could be regarded as a “regret” by Professor Mia White and be listed alongside life, scientific research, and family?
Summer Miller’s throat felt dry, and she slightly lowered her eyes.
She could even imagine the disappointed and regretful look in the professor’s eyes when she mentioned her.
Jack took out a piece of paper and wrote down a string of numbers.
“This is my mobile phone number.”
Summer Miller took a look. It was a beautiful handwritten script in regular style
“Here’s the tiramisu you ordered, sir”
While the waiter was putting down the dish, he couldn’t help secretly observing the guests at this table.
The man had a somewhat careless look on his handsome face, and there was still a hint of impatience in his eyes
The woman sitting opposite him was wearing a Dior haute couture little red dress and carrying an Hermès “Constance” bag in the color of

creamy white. It was obvious at a glance that she was a wealthy young lady from a noble family.
She seemed completely unaware of the man’s irritability and just kept chattering away.
Ethan Hayes, Theard from Aunt Zoey Wilson that you have a bad stomach. Our family has a doctor who specializes in treating stomach problems When the time comes.”
Ethan Hayes was playing with his lighter and only responded occasionally
Today’s blind date was arranged by Mrs. Zoey Wilson Since he had come, he didn’t plan to make it too awkward.
It’s just that be ha absolutely no interest in what the woman was saying
His gaze drifted to a nearby place, and suddenly, his eyes froze. He sat up straight abruptly.
Four or five tables away. Summer Miller was sitting face to face with a man.
He couldn’t hear their conversation, but he could see the faint smile on her face
The voice that he could barely tolerate in his ears suddenly became extremely noisy, which made him even more irritable.
Ethan Hayes meered and looked away.
I should leave now.”
Jack was really short on time. Spending thirty minutes here was already his limit.
Summer Miller understood and they both stood up.
When leaving the restaurant, Jack Camaron stepped forward first and used his hand to hold the door, indicating for her to go first.
Very gentlemanly.
Summer Miller smiled Thank you.”
When they got to the roadside, Jack said, “My car is here.”
Summer nodded. “See you in two days”
She stood there and watched him leave. Only then did she withdraw her gaze. But the moment she turned around, she unexpectedly met a pair of eyes that seemed to be smiling yet not really smiling.
They were full of sarcasm and coldness.
“Found a replacement so quickly?”
